No speical names just some really cool frags

My favortie By far this coral is SICK the guy told me this is a horizontal grower can you tell?

bowdown01.gif bowdown01.gif bowdown01.gif

Those frags are SOOOOOOOOO sexy!!! dancingnaughty.gif
scottyreef
LOl thanks i actually got off pretty cheap today all the frags were under 20 bucks one was only $5 green base orange polyps acro

Bad pics right before my lights turned off

$5 Acro it has nice orange polyps that are retracted right now

purple with white polyps acro

Cali Tort really bad pic

DCG1286
wow ... under $20 ... forget that ... you won't find that around NYC ... they would to sell you flat worm infested frags for that amount ... that's about it ... or ones that are rotting, even rotting costs a bit more wink.gif
scottyreef
I know it really sounds really mean but during this recession I am getting some great deals on corals. Yeah i know what you are talking about high priced grabage corals but suprizingly a lot of places i am going the corals prices are really dropping, i guess its a sign of hard times sad.gif . I really am trying to keep the LFS i fequent in busniess but spreading the word on there sales and what not and helping there customers out for free due to the owners who can't keep a large staff anymore

Hey, you get what you get ... the pieces are amazing!!! At those prices even better!!!
Yeah ... I wish it was the same for NY ... they would rather hold onto the pieces forever then lower the price and get them to sell ... Very few stores I would actually shop at around this neck of the woods ... just because I have gotten to know the owners personally. It's even hard to come by good deals from other members ... people selling equipment for what they paid if not more then what you can buy off of other websites. Used light fixtures with old bulbs for the cost of new ones. A lot of greedy people here. What can you do? Keep buying those frags!!! They are just simply gorgeous!!!
scottyreef
well My LFS yourreef (a NR sponser) has great deals and if you ever want some great corals at rock bottom prices shoot me a pm of what you want and i can get them out to you in NY for cheaper even with shipping that you can get there. I have had the same problem with people selling a light fixture with over one year old bulbs for about 90%-95% of the going rate it's sad really I am not sure if its greed or they just don't want to lose any money . I feel quite lucky to be living where i am at people around where i live (sacramento/ SF bay area) there is ALWAYS good deals ( And people still complain).

WAY ahead of you my friend ... how is their 10 for $100 deal? 20 for 200? Seriously ... it looks like they have really really nice stuff ...
Yeah people are afraid of losing money ... but it's going to happen ... no one wants to buy old equipment for the cost of new stuff.
I hear you on people complaining ... people are ALWAYS lowballing ... or wanting premium corals that others worked hard to afford and then offering half the amount. lol ... Chalices seem to be the big thing here right now ... and guys are killing each other for them.
scottyreef
if you get a coral package tell me and i will either tell John ( the owner) or myself to pick them out. His deals are great but his wife updates the website and it looks a bit amateurish and i am bugging him to change it and to get a under water lens to improve his pics. I buy from people i dont lowball but i will call you out on a high price there reactions are funny when i bring out my iphone and do a searchand show them how much a new one is and then if they don't lower the price i walk.

To be honset i don't even like Chalices that much there just another flavor of the month. also if you want a great chalice i have a really nice one comming my way that i am going to get rid of. its a Red Tiger Stripe Chalice and i got it in a coral lot from Aquatic Collection. I think i am going to run some sort on contest and first prize is going to be this beautiful Chalice

You are the man!!! ... I think I will be placing an order by the end of the weekend for sure, I will let you know ... it's like $39.00 for shipping to NYC ... not bad ... spend $250 and it's free ... sweet!!!

I hear you on the Chalices ... they are sort of whatever for me ... but some people just love them and will fight to the death for one ... at $100-400 per EYE ... I would rather get myself a nice SPS pack ... or many packs wink.gif
scottyreef
Well I ran into a old reef buddy at the LFS today and he was bringing in some show pieces from his 180g he's is breaking down and i scored this huge piece for my new center piece for my tank. The coral has great color and has a light bright green tinge to it if seen from the top down and its size is about 10" and has two main branchs ther is one spot on the coral were a branch broke (not pictured) at the base but i am sure it will heal quickly

DCG1286
That new colony is bad a$$ Scotty ... wow ...impressive .. nice score!!!
lilredneckman
Dang Scott your tanks looks GREAT!
davidr2340
Every damn coral in this tank is "center piece" worthy bro!!! bowdown01.gif

THAT one is amazing though!!!
scottyreef
well thanks dave to be honest i got this coral by pure luck right place at the right time you know the best part is that i got it for a steal $60 he had other stuff but with my tank being only 22g i wouldnt have room for the other corals. He had a Leng Sy Cap as big as a gallon paint can and purple polyp birdsnest with about 80 branchs

Wow ... See if he wants to ship anything to NYC biggrin.gif!!!!
scottyreef
I think he would but i think his tank is pretty much broken down the only reason that he had these large corals left is for that very reason the corals are show size and would be very hard to ship. Not to mention they are quite pricey the leng sy is about $400-500 and i got this guy becuase me and him went back 5 years and i only had 60 bucks on me Yeah!!! He has to get his tank down quick since he's getting a divorce and moving to minnesota he says women in the great lakes aren't so B_i_t_c_h_y. I told him not likey LOL
scottyreef
later next week i am getting a Premier Red Tiger Stripe Chalice and I am not really into the chalice seen and i want to make up a contest to win this coral so to those who want a coral like this help me think of a contest and first prize will be this coral a long with a yet undecided 2nd &3rd prize I will post pics of the coral as soon as i get it
scottyreef
Well i guess it was bound to happen i am starting to lose my first sps frag and of course its never a cheap one. My karl's Candlelight seems to be suffering from STN (slow tissue necrosis). I dipped it in revive but i am expecting to lose it but you never know. All of the other corals are as happy as can be things like this just happen sometimes.
Pablo
Looks great.
scottyreef
Thanks man I try my best blush.gif

Today i almost make a mistake to day when i went to my friend house and i was looking at his Biotope and he had this great hard coral that was bright Blue i asked him what it was and he said it was a Blue Lace Distichopora. When i am glad i didnt get a piece of this because its a very low light coral and it would of died in a day or two but anyway if anyone looking for a cool low light high flow coral check out this coral

example ( not my pic)

Paleoreef103
That things awesome! It looks like ElFabs tank though with the orange fungia, galaxea, blue cloves, etc. Is it?
scottyreef
I think it is elfabuloso tank i just did a google search to find the coral great job noticing that

also cool coral Elfab ( hope you dont mind i used your pic fingersx01.gif )

Very cool piece the Distichopora is!!! Haven't seen them very often ...
Sorry to hear about the Karl's Kandlelight ... I still have to track down a piece of it here ... Hate it when frags STN ... but not much you can do about it ... hopefully it pulls through for you! You have to see some of the frags people try to sell around here ... lol ... stn ... some even rtn'ing ... and still trying to be sold. One guy managed to bleach out every last piece of coral ... and still tried to fetch $200 for his acans. biggrin.gif
scottyreef
Yeah i am just glad i didn't make a noob mistake it still happens from time to time. yeah the Candlelight is still alive and its not looking good but it still alive for the moment. I wasn't a hard piece to find since Karl Unarce is local to me. Karls best known for Karls candlelight, Orenji Montipora and Ice Fire Echinata to name a few high colonys that he owns.
scottyreef
Well i got some new corals in from Joe lee of aquaconnection

A Premier Red Tiger Stripe Chalice

Undata

I just had a funny thing han to me jusst now. i was at yourreef BS'n with john the owner and a guy walks in that i recognize but i am not sure from where. Well about a week and a half ago i got a speeding ticket for going 72 in a 55 (speed trap) while comming back from reno and this was the guy who gave it to me LOL.

well everyone has to make a living and i wasn't mad about the ticket but when he asked if i had some corals for trade and i said he did but for him they will be extra ( hey i got to recoupe my losses) but i was just kidding and i told him that if you tell me where the speed traps are at i will help him set up his new tank.

He told me if he could he would but he doesn't even know most of the time but he told me next time i pull you over i might let you slide with a warning if i can find him a cross hatch trigger. I said it would be cheaper for me just to pay for the ticket. so this is for you State Tropper Josh Mcwen
PurpleUP
I'm likin that chalice.
scottyreef
Thanks BUUUDDY

I got two more Rare Exotic Corals Drum Roll Please

Black Berry Undata ( i love this coral)

DE Tabling Acropora Jacquelineae ( this is a old Steve Tyree Coral from about 6 years back if was retired due to lack of interest but i think it look really cool what do you guys think)

http://www.reeffarmers.com/limitedjacquelineae.htm

More comming this weekend
Paleoreef103
I don't think I've seen an undata before that wasn't the one you posted two posts before.... That thing is gorgeous. And that acro is amazing! I don't know why no one was interested in it. Personally I think it reminds me of a tabling 30,000 leagues lokani.
scottyreef
I just got it about a hour ago RC member "unarce" its a very nice piece It goes by a few other names Rasta Monti and lawman Monti but who cares. You right that Jacquelineae is a great piece but Karl told be he is one of the few to actully have a piece of this with lineage " like i matters" but anyway its a Deepwater Fiji Acro that is hard to come by now. I really only has mybe 20 polyps on the entire colony and unfortuatly its as bright as its going to get according to Karl but i really like still
gulfsurfer101
Dude you alway have the coolset stuff. When you get ready to frag and I have my future 40br ready I am down to send you a large sum of money for froags of some of those sweet azzfrags of yours. Your tank looks awsome man. I've been kinda stepping back atm since work here is coming to a head and looks like I'l be relocating soon. YOu know how that goes.
scottyreef
Thanks Gulf I am lways down for large sums of money. i am really trying with this tank and the hardest part is going out and fill it up then be stuck with those corals when i want to make room for something nicer and taking a loss. Where you planning on going and yes i know how that goes i move around sooo much in the last few years i get confused on where resturants and other stuff is when i think of wal-marts in other states and things like that.

well thanks david i really hope it lives up to the hype LOL

Well the top is built, the rock is cycling in a tub and tile base is built for the stand to go on all i have left is to go to ikea and buy the "FREDEN" sink cabniet
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20141184

Scotty would you mind posting or PMing me instructions on how you built the top for the sink cabinet. I am going to try and pick up this very same cabinet today at my local Ikea (says they have it in stock). Gracias!
scottyreef
It was pretty simple for the top I went to Lowes or home depot i don't remember which and bought a pre cut 2' X 4' piece of cabniet grade birch 3/4" plywood. I had them cut it down to 2' X 3' I painted the whole piece with maine boat paint you can use anything that will keep the moisture out. I applied about a full tube and a half of water based Liquid nails with a notched triangle thinset trowel and applied six 12" X 12" tiles to the top . After the liquid nails dried (I gave it about a day) attached it to the stand using "L" brackets and screws. then i trimmed it out with flat chair rail molding ( that was pre painted) and then went around the Ikea stand with black silcone ( roofing silicone don't use on tank!!) filling in all of the openings when water might get in like the tile seams.

Also i left the back panel off on the stand so it would be easier to get cords in and out that i wraped with sprial wrap.

I also made a platfrom for the stand to sit on since its right on my carpet to distribute the weight and help protect the carpet. I made it from more tile i had laying around and another piece of plywood that was trimmed out with chair rail molding

I hope this helps

Awesome, thanks Scott...you make it sound almost like I can do it. smile.gif You mentioned using silicone between the tile seams...I am assuming you didn't leave a space between them and grout?

Thanks

scottyreef
No i didnt grout them i used counter top tile and it has a very small beval. i just used a bit of silicone to keep the water out

Well more corals today and i got another show piece but John the guy i got it from doesn't remember what spieces it is but i got a free Tyree Blue Chalice out of the deal attached to the frag plug. So if anyone knows what it is hit me up. I a really nice piece and before i left i snapped of a small frag so john wouldn't lose the entire coral.

see the blue chalice on the left? ( This pic isn't very good since the light where just going off for the night)

Atlantis Meteor Shower Cyphastrea ( it was under really stong light so it will color up better soon i hope)

Really cool Palys ( i don't know the name of most of them but there is a couple RPE's on the frag)

Thanks for Looking
scottyreef
Well John got back to me after he looked at his notes and this coral was listed as a Deepwater Bonsai Tri-color Valida Acropora ( needs to do some coloring up). This came out of his 300g show tank and from pictures in the past the coral is lime green base blue and purple tips with green polyps. I seems from the growth pattern its a very slow grower and unlike the ORA Tri-color validia it has a skinny base and a uncommon growth pattern kind of like a sprial.

Also if you look at the pic above and it has a couple dead branch due to the Blue chalice and it doing some chemical warfare some time ago
scottyreef
I have had a very busy day today i got a few corals from NR member "kyrie_eleison" And i got some great stuff from him for real cheap

Two Orange Montipora Setosa Frags

I full frag plug of encrusted Red Planet Acropora

I dont know what Montipora this is but i got it for free from him and i think it has potential later down the road

I also meet up with another fellow reefer and i got this great piece from from him aswell. Is a great dark purple with purple polyps and its starting to get neon green tips

Bad Pic

That is all for now keep on smiling biggrin.gif

Job here is over in about 4 months and the next one is either up in Waco Tx which is still in my homestate and close by the inlaws so I'm not likeing that idea and one strong possiblility is West Palm Beach. I'm down for that one since there is pretty decent surf in FL along with lots of cool diving spots. I'll be checking back in on that monti. Hope you get it because I can't wait to see what it is.
