Hey Scotty,
Welcome back the new tank plans look awesome! Ive been following your thread for a while since I too have a 22g cadlights. Considering how successful you made your tank, I'd love to mimic it! So I'm curious, how did you set up your back compartments? I too have the tunze 9002.
Thanks,
Kenn

well from what i remember it went like this
first chamber
filter floss
tunze 9002
viaaqua 2600 power head for chiller restricted back to around 300gph
frag tiles soaking for future use
second chamber
cheato
Aqua C ramora ( ran olny at night and was there for a safe gaurd)
purgien
chemi pure elite
seagel
thrid chamber
chiller return
maxi jet 1800 return pump
fan blowing into second chamber for cooling
if you have anymore questions dont hesitate to ask

I've got lots lol. Did you build a rack to hold the purgien, chemipure, seagel, and seperate it from the chaeto? or what did you do. Also were you concerned with filter floss being sucked up into the skimmer?

I pinned the filter floss agaist the skimmer and the overflow and changes every other day
There was no way it could of been sucked up because how the skimmer brought water in the reaction chamber in the bottom of the skimmer.
I did have media baskets for a while but after a while i decide just to toss the bags in a larger mesh bag and checked them bi weekly as long as there was water going across them they seem to work just fine.
I left out that i had some some submesible pond lights in there to keep the macro alage growing

so in the second chamber you just had the chaeto and a big media bag full of those items just floating around?

jesus christ scott! How much you plan on spending on equipment? That some expensive harware, but don't you have prett much everythign from last go around? Sounds like this should be one nice tank, and your going to love t5's! The colors of the clowns i got yesterday really pop under my nova extreme pro on the 40brd, and that's the stock bubls, can't wait til' i upgrade to all ati.

i have like 90% of the equitment but i want to make a tank that i didnt settle on parts and pieces the only thing i have left to buy is the Aquactinics 24" TX5 and the Deltec MCE 500. i am going to keep a old sunpod over the tank for a little bit seeing as there is going to be nothing in it and i just want to give the coraline algae light to grow.
I had t-5ho over this tank before but i decide that the Outer Orbit pro was just too wide and i sold it shortly after i torn the tank down on the last go around. I really like them and since they give close to the same results as MH without the heat and energy waste is a great plus

thanks also to add to the Ye' old hardware list
APC 900VA UPS ( for the MP20, secondary heater (25watts) and return pump)
Aqua Logic Single Stage Temperature Controller ( running as a secondary fail safe incase the AC III temp stops working)
scottyreef
Apr 5 2009, 11:52 PM
I almost forgot i am at a cross road should i just let the MP20 run on the UPs battey backup or shout i get the Ecotech Marine Vortech Battery Backup. Insight needed my fellow reef fanatics

I think i have came to the same conclusion since i will be getting a raw 12v from the battery and i don't have to step it up with the transformer in the UPS

Apr 6 2009, 11:12 PM
i know this sound a bit remedial but right now i am cycling my live rock at about 78 degree F ( normal reef temp) But will the bacterial benift from a higher temp during cycling to short overall cycle time? I my head it makes sense but a lot of things make sense in my head which are fundimentally theoretical.....like string theory

Apr 7 2009, 08:55 PM
thanks gulf i really hope i make it better than my last set-up. I really think its going to be hard because i loved that tank soo much. Since i began again to cycle my live rock and seeing all of the bleached coraline algae and the leftover aquastick epoxy leftover. but i have to keep a postive attitude and strive for as better tank
Also a small update: the tunze is pulling out a lot of junk out the cycling water tank that my Live rock is in and the numbers have spiked so only a few more weeks until it ready to go

I loved this tank before and I'm sure it's going to be amazing again. I do have a question though. If your running T5s, why so much cooling? A chiller and a 4 head cooling fan? P.s. I'm super jealous of that equipment list...

Apr 7 2009, 09:37 PM
it is to compensate for the heat that accululates in my house. i live in northern california and it can sometime reach 110 degree F. my house has a intelligent HVAC system that controls room by room and my tank room ( which is my office) will be off because i dont wan t to heat and cool rooms i am not in. the chiller is only going to be on if the temp in the tank goes over 80.5 degrees F. I changed the four head cooling fan to a two head to save space now. Cool equipment comes with time in the hobby great deals are everywhere you just got to ponce on them when they come across your path

I think with my new plan in mind i am going to blow my last tank and any other tank i have ever had. I really want to make this tank right no going cheap no settling on off colored corals or ANY wild coloines that could my stocking efforts in jeopardy with invasive alages or invertebrates
