Looks like you got pretty much everything in there already man. I've been trying to do some collecting myself through trades. I need to take a long look at my tank and do a revised stock list sometime soon. Most of what I'm dealing with is just frags though since my tank is only 12g+sump. I will pay cash for a frag though if you decide to frag it.
scottyreef
Well that sound great Gulf when i frag it up You will be first in line.

Well Last right i started the process of getting a Reef Controller. I decided on getting a Neptune Systems Aquacontroller III , A standard PH Probe and ORP and a DC8 expantion module.I would really like to get a Oxyguard Dissolved Oxygen Probe but for the price tag of $410 I think i will have to pass.
gulfsurfer101
That is some mosnster equipment. I would like to hook up a ACjr?PH probe after seeing how much good it does on glennr1978's tank. I helped him move his tank and when he plugged it back in it kept all the previouse settings from before. I wouldn't mind picking me up one for christmas as well. Not too shure I really need one runing a 12g with now 5g WC every three day though and API trace elemnets dosing in between. Everything grows like weeds. I might be looking for large zoa colonies as filler for my AP24 soon and I can get some large SPS peices that I can offer as trade.
Weetabix7
I might actually be interested in trading for some Acans.
You should PM me pics of what you've got.
From what I can tell you've been getting into sps and I may be getting rid of some, so...

ok weetie i will pm you some new pic 's tommarrow. I just did a water change and my coral are still pissed off.

On another note i will be moving my tank some time in december and i will be getting rid of quite as bit of stuff. I just put a order through at Uline for Insulated Foam Shipping boxs, more 6 mil bags and shipping labels so when i get everything in my hot little hands i will post some corals up for sale. I will be also getting rid of extra lights, skimmer, pump and what not as well

Cheers
Scott
scottyreef
well since i got my Pokerstar Monti from NR member Spankey it has done a lot of changing. He had under some extreme T5HO actinic light and he told me it would change color and it has.I think i like it better it looks more like other picture i have seen of this coral. I might when i get my New Outer OrbitPro Imight want to get the moreinteseblue color back but I am happy in the way it looks.

gulfsurfer101
I'd like a frag of whatever you willing to offer. Maybe we can work out something like a set price for a multifrag deal of whatever you got when your ready. Your tanks is one of the one's I like on here with a few others that I have posted on recently. I really like the SPS look and you got a lot of interesting stuff that I'd like.
scottyreef
Yeah sounds like a plan Gulf. Thank you very much for watching my tank progress its came a long way.

It scares me sometimes to think how much i have spent on such a small tank compared to the a lot largers systems i have had in the past. I am a bit scared to sit down and tabulate the overall price but is somewere in the $4000-5000 range very possibley more.....and the number grows with all the new stuff i have planned.

So Gulf and everyone else Stay Tuned for some major changes

I can definatley relate, my 12g is the smallest sytem I have ever run but already there's no telling how much I've put in there. I'm having to slow down since I'm becoming more limited for space so no room for filler until I get my AP24 in motion. I'll defintaley have to check back in on you tuesday and if you got lot's of stuff, I might get the newly assembled Corpus Christi reefers on this site in on a small GB to reduce shipping cost and efforts on your half making it easier to ship to one location. I know the guys down here would love to get their hands on some quality SPS.
scottyreef
ok Gulf i will keep you updated.

Well a little problem happened in my tank over the past few nights. My light system didnt turn off for over 60 hours. I was on the road for a few days and my timer somehow didnt turn off and was stuck on the on postion.
A few of my coral suffered my Purple haze bleach out a bit, I had a acan colony recede, I had a part of my large green slimer bleach a bit but everything is still alive and double checked my Timer so it wont happen tommarrow. I could of been alot worse I think in a week or two the tank will be back in shape I just hope none of my corals die. Most of my corals took it fairly well so we will se how it goes. Wish me luck
Weetabix7
Ouch!
I hope everything recovers okay.
colgan10
Man that stinks! I know what it feels like to have light problems Hurricane Ike took out mine for over a week pretty much destroying my tank, but you said you were moving to In let me know i'd like to do some frag trading if you want to just let me know!
scottyreef
Thanks for you concer i really hope they recover too. i am really glad i had a lot of top off water for all the evaporation that happen during my coral cook out. these picture were just taken a few minutes ago and the polys were retracted but all the coral still have poylp extetion there were just taken a bit off guard

My slimer before a month or two back but you get the idea

My slimer after

Purple haze before

Purple Haze after

Too all reading this make sure that you dont leave you light on too long like 60 hours they dont like it.
Lalani
Wow, that's unfortunate. sad.gif
scottyreef
On a good note the temp of the tank was only 79 all the number were ok CA,Alk and mg were a little low due to the coral needing more demand with all the extra light. But we will se folks and even if everything dies I am a postive person and all it means to me is more space for more corals smile.gif
colgan10
ouch i hope they recover!
scottyreef
Thanks but all is not lost

Heres a FTS (sorry for the dirty glass and bad pic but you get the idea) alos this pic was taken after the lighs were off and i turned them back on just for this pic so coral were a bit pissed to be woken up

lilredneckman
dang scotty that stinks! Hope everything recovers well!
nematoad
Hope everything recovers!!

Oh yeah, that pokerstar monti you have. I got a mystery montipora in a frag pack yesterday, and it looks exactly like yours does now. Do you think yours is getting too much light or too little?

On a side note about tabulating costs for everything, I've kept track of almost every expense that's gone into my little 10g tank, and it's topping $3000 now...

Wow scottie- sorry to here that- i bummed - your experienced - if anyone can bring that tank back to life (U can)! cheers from Southern California
reefdan
sucks about your tank scotty.

more motivation to get a controller i guess. i have an ac jr and i love it. it does everything for me. lights, heat, chiller, fuge, wavemaker. all kinds of options. i suspect the ac 3 has even more, including the online capabilities
gulfsurfer101
Oh that suck man. Same thing happend to me while I was out camping for three days. I came home about midnight on the third night only to find my sunpod must have been on the whole time. I had no more mushrooms and lot's of stuff including my favorite favites brains was scorched. Hope you get things turned around.
scottyreef
thanks guys my coral after just a full day with out light are looking better i only have the lights on for four hours a day building up to more time everyother day day until i get back to my old light cycle of two 4 hour cycles per day with 8 hours off in between.

my current cycle is
2 light cycles on two hours a day increasing 1 half hour a day until i get back to normal. this way was told to me by another reefer to help combat the stress of too much light.

As of yet nothing has completly died but the acan colony is looking pretty bad with too much light exposure. it was 6 heads now its down too about 2 1/4 heads if that makes sense.

Yeah your telling me. the sad thing is i am not that upset because i plan a pretty big design change next month, where i will have no other coral but SPS no acans and no zoas. So it really doesnt hurt too much about the acan colony die other than the money lost. I was a ACIII coming very soon so i will keep you all updated

Scott
reefdan
i think your approach to getting your schedule back in check is a good one. slow is key.

have you considered feeding your corals in an effort to get them to recover faster? i don't know if it would help but it's just a thought.
dtfleming
+1 feed them with the lights off
scottyreef
yeah I have been feeding them reef chili but i am doing it sparsely so i wont increase my Bio-Load too much. What does everybody think of reef chili. I know its not the greatest but i think it will work
reefdan
never tried it. i am skeptical of all prepared foods to be honest. i feed sf bay's "marine cuisine" but only half of what i pay for is actually food. the rest is water mixed with crap.
scottyreef
well i guess we'll see how well it works out and since i only have one fish i hope that its the best choice. i feed my springeri dottyback Arctic Pods with a pipette
scottyreef
Well everything is still alive after my coral cook a couple days back i think i lost the acan colony Oh Well. I talked my wife into buying some new stuff for my tank of coarse the ACIII, A outer orbit pro, and a calcium reactor but i need to find a version that is small enough for my tank and stop my 2 part dosing. I also want to trade out my ultra life ATO and get a Tunze Osmolator ATO
SeeDemTails
That stinks! Atleast the SPS is recovering!
scottyreef
Well just ordered A New lighting system today after my coral Cooking Disaster

Dr. Fosters & Smith
Outer Orbit Pro Series HQI/T-5/LED Lights 24" 355W $463.99

I also bought new lights for my new fixture

Reefgeek.com
1 x 24W 10000K AquaSun T5 HO Fluorescent (UVL0001) by UV Lighting = $21.95
2 x 24W Blue Plus T5 HO Fluorescent (ATI1009) by ATI = $37.90
1 x 24W 12000K Aquablue Special T5 HO Fluorescent (ATI1001) by ATI = $19.95
1 x 250W 14000K+ Metal Halide Bulb (Double-ended) (PEC0007) by Phoenix = $64.95

I decided to go with the Phoenix 14k instead of the Giesemann Megachrome 21k Becuse i have more than enough blue spectrum and plus the bulb is time tested and i can get one just about anywhere with out searching to hard.

Ok Guys/Gals tell me what you think of my lastest purchase

Also all of the stock bulbs will be going up for sale new and unused so if you need any shot me a pm

1 X 250watt PowerPaq 10,000K HQI metal halide Bulb
2 X SlimPaq T5HO Actinic 420nm Bulbs
2 X SlimPaq T5HO Actinic 460nm Bulbs
Weetabix7
I thought you were really happy with the T5 lighting.
What motivated you to switch?
scottyreef
This is the first time i have had T5HO's before I only had a 150watt sunpod on this girl and with the sole bulb eventhough it was a very high quailty bulb i have known for a while i was missing something. As for the T5 bulb change i wanted to get a more custom color at of the fixture that the stock bulbs couldnt give me

Dang scotty, with the new light, the corals are gonna be growin' like crazy! Hope you let them recover from the cooking accindent before you put the new light on, or you'll really cook em'.
SeeDemTails
Nice new toy! You should like the phoniex, I love mine.
scottyreef
I have had them before and i really liked them the only reason i switched in the first place was that i wanted more blue spectrum and with the 21K Giesemann thats why i had to change. i think this will be my 4 or 5th phoniex bulb but my first one that wasnt 150watt. i wonder is there is a differnce between the too there probably isnt but i guess its something to think about.

On a side note i got 2000 4 and 6 mil bags from uline today and i am going to sell some off seeing is that i dont need 2000 bags for coral i have 4 X 18" and 3 X 12" bags they will be sold off in 100 bag packs for $12 shipped so if anyone need any drop me a PM.

I also got 8 Polar-tech insulated shipping containers that feature 1 1/2" thick insolation so i am ready for everyone who wants to buy so livestock after it all color up of course smile.gif

http://www.polar-tech.com/scmed_2_5_bio-Shippers.htm
SeeDemTails
I want to buy something from you just so I can gte one of those containers!
scottyreef
You got it SDT and i was thinking of packing up a vial of coral revive mixed with some flatworm exit so when people get them they will be able to dip there corals and give them a good start in there new tank

Been watching your thread for some time now. Sorry to hear about the lighting overdose, but I'm sure you'll have it back to technicolor normal soon. Your SPS is beautiful and is motivating me to get setup for serious SPS sometime in the future.

I'm curious about your light cycle being 4 on / 8 off / 4 on / 8 off / .... Why is this? It's halving & doubling the normal day night cycle, obviously, so does this encourage growth?

You've mentioned using a Canon for pics... more info please? What settings do you use, and what exactly is your setup for the "underwater" shots?

Also, as a professional nature and fishing guide, I want to say thanks for your work on mercury emissions (noted earlier in the thread). Awesome! And incidentally, I'm a WV native who now lives in SC, so I dig the fact that you are having a direct positive effect on places near and dear to me. Curious (PM me) if the company has a plant in the SC or GA area that will benefit from this mercury extraction technology.

OK, lot's of random questions all in one post, sorry! Oh, one more thing: if your plans still include relocating back to the left coast this month, please put me on the list for any exports prior to your departure!

Thanks,

scottyreef

thank you and I hope they recover soon too

This is a quote from Practial Coral Farming by Miguel Tolosa

4 on 8 off light cycle

There have been some experiments exploring the benefits of maximum Zooxanthelle alage production by using a alternating light cycle of 4 hours on and 8 hours off.

The Journal of Experimental Msrine Biology and Ecology Found that Motility, Or growth, In the cells of Zooxanthelle alage " occurred only during the period of illumination and lasted 8-9h, with a peak at 2.5-4h after lights on." It is this peak at 2.5-4h that has given rise to farms based on the 4 on 8 off light cycle. there has been increased coral health. The amount of growth depends upon the corals being farmed, but nearly all coral show marked improvement using this light cycle.

You can find this article in the Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and ecology Volume 298 Issue 1, 7 January 2004, Pages 35-48

So yes I have very good succes with this method.

You've mentioned using a Canon for pics... more info please? What settings do you use, and what exactly is your setup for the "underwater" shots?

Will I use a off the shelf Canon S5IS with a 4" extension tube and a UV filter and Mod a tripod that lets the extension tube down in the tank only about 2" protecting the lens and the movemnts. and its set to super Macro mode

Well I work For AEP and i am not sure if they do have any power plants in you area. I think you get most of your energy comes from Duke Energy but every on in the industry is upgrading the mercury system to ones similar to the ones i was involved in

OK, lot's of random questions all in one post, sorry! Oh, one more thing: if your plans still include relocating back to the left coast this month, please put me on the list for any exports prior to your departure!

not a problem

Thanks,

Your welcome
scottyreef
Look at this insulated shipping box I think they will work great but i guess it does cut down on the amount of stuff i can put in to one box with its 1 1/2" of insolation

I have two sizes

Large (not pictured) 7 3/4 x 5 7/8 x 10 1/2" Price $8.12 each
Small (pictured) 7 3/4 x 5 7/8 x 4" Price $4.87

scottyreef
Well today i was gluing a frag down and when i put it back in the tank one of my Peppermit shrimp came over to check it out and glued him self to the frag plug hahahahahaha. He'll be fine after his next molt one of his leg got pulled off. I i know everyone wants pic's but i trimmed it off before i thought of taking a picture. Sorry guys
gulfsurfer101
Hey man, nice light you picked. I'm looking at running duel supods or at least deul MH fixtures over a 40br or sell my sunpod and get a 250 for my AP24 drilled with out those BS backwalls. I just picked up a frag of ORA's latest release ORA borealis and already fragged it out. If I don't get any good trades by the time your stuff recovers I have a very small peice of this very limited coral that you might want to get your hands on.
SeeDemTails
Hahahaha I bet it stays away from that coral! I finally added a big pep to my tank, my tang ate the last two smaller ones. This one seems too big.

scottyreef
yeah i had 4 but I am not sure if i got a killer in my tank ( aka Springeri Dottyback) now i am down to two and they keep the few aiptasia that seem to pop up from time to time. Its funny everytime i put my hand in my tank one of those guys attacks my hand.
scottyreef
Well it looks like i will get my new light on wednesday acorrding to DR. Fosters & Smith but i have no eta on the satus of the new bulbs from reef geek but i hope its soon because i dont want to put my new light on with the stock bulbs
scottyreef
I guess i spoke too soon I just now got a email from reefgeek and it said it will be here on the 21st i hate waiting
gulfsurfer101
Hey what do you plan on doing with your old sunpod, I just made a post on the classifieds looking for a MH fixture for trade on some SPS. What I have to offer is a small 1/2 frag of the new ORA borealis, frag of ORA purple tip stag, frag of ORA montipora spongeodes, frag of bali purple enchinata, and if your willing to trade I can throw in a small frag of my ORA marshall island blue bottlebrush acropora. I don't know if you have any of these already but I would really like another sunpod so I can get both my aquapods running and just use my 12g for a frag tank.
scottyreef
well the sunpods going to my brother tank unfortunately he's setting my old 20 long up and i am giving him the light sorry partner. I have most of your sps frags i think i am not sure what the borealis is but I am only in the market for either a tunze osmolator or deltec skimmer. I have a viper clamp on 70watt, skimmers, wavemakers, powerheads, and corals for trade sorry gulf.
