I just got 3 sexies for my 15 gal. yesterday and released them together as a group onto my acropora coral head.Today when the lights came on, I saw only 2 and they had moved to my kenya tree coral and have remained there all day.I wonder if the lost one died? they don't seem to like to stay together in a group. as soon as I put them in, they wandered all over the corals in different directions.I hope they don't disapear.

Congrats! Sometimes sexies will hide when introduced to a new tank. Just keep an eye out and if it doesn't show itself within the next week or so..... send in a search crew..

Since you only put them in the tank recently, it'll take a while for them to get comfortable and start acting 'normal,' though my sexies don't always stayed grouped together.

I miss my sexies!!!
Don't recall if a coral banded shrimp will eat sexies. I know they don't get a long with a lot of other shrimps...

I just wanna say be aware of what kinds of fish you put sexy shrimp with. I had a 1.5" sailfin blenny and my sexy shrimp was being transfered into my 5 gallon and the blenny ripped the sexy in half cuz he thought i was putting food in the tank. So make sure your fish are well fed b4 you put any sexiness in. Im now trying a barnacle blenny with some sexyness and a bumblebee. the barnacle is only a 1" right now.
edit:::: what's the max size people have actually seen their sexy shrimp grow to in captivity?

I purchased two sexy shrimp about 10 days ago. I have an Aqua Clear 20 filter and the sexy shrimp keep disappearing, and when I look in the filter (after I take the things out of the filter) there they are. How can I stop this? I don't know how they get in there.

You could try putting some netting over the intake?Or wrap some chaeto around the intake
thedistance
Jul 21 2009, 10:06 AM
I don’t think they are getting sucked up through the intake. With my Aqua Clear 20 the intake goes strait into the impeller. I don’t think they could survive that. I think they might be getting in through where the water comes back into the tank. I don’t know though.

I think my 2 new sexies are munching on zoa skirts... the older one leaves them alone.
How can I convince then to leave my zoos alone?
...and will the zoo skirts grow back???

Just bought my first Sexy today!
Questions:
-Will it be fine in my LR only tank? It has no corals yet.
-Follow-up to that: There's no light (waiting for Evil to release another batch of screw in LED bulbs) - will it be fine without light?

Feed them whenever they are hungry. Some will pick at corals no matter what you do.

It will be fine, but remember they are best kept in groups, not single.

3 of my 5 sexy's are carrying eggs!
any chance of the babies makin it?
I dont have any mechanical filtration to catch the larva
I have heard that is the main reason shrimp dont breed so well
other than everything in the tank eating them
has anyone had any luck
Lalani
Aug 11 2009, 09:41 AM
I don't think anyone here has raised any babies. I was going to attempt it, but it's a lot of work. yankee reefer was going to try it, but haven't heard from him in a long time. If you want to try, take a looksee

i got my sexies last week

i didn't realize how tiny they are!!! trying to get some pictures of them but my camera just sucks

i need to borrow my friend's Nikon again
here's what i got, sorry for the blur
here's my babies acclimating (there were 5 total but 3 have been hanging together since i got em)

they liked to hide in my algae before the turbos ate it all

i need to go through this thread and find the best way to feed these critters. they get scared when i put the forceps in with the shrimp pellet and jump away, although i finally got one of them to grab a pellet. he was able to nibble on it for a little bit but then he got too close to a current and it blew out of his hands
i don't want them to starve
Lalani
Aug 17 2009, 09:40 AM
They'll adjust to the forceps after a while. Just move it towards them very slowly until they realize it's holding food, then they'll likely jump onto it.

just tried again and they still jumped

so what i did was just put some pellets on the sand and let the snails go to town, once they were done the sexies made their way to the sand bed and started chowing down on what was left

i only see 4 though, i wonder if the 5th died

6gal tank, right? Yeah, 5 would be fine. And as far as fish.... anything that'll do well in a 6gal. Any fish is fine as long as they aren't ornamental shrimp eaters.

Alright, so I put in 3 sexy's and at first I thought they were freakin' awesome! ...And then they started munching on my green paly's. I feed them twice a day now. I've tried two different types of food, first Arcti-pods, and now Spectrum fish pellets, both recommendations from the LFS. They can grab the large chunks of Arcti-pods no problem and chow down, and they love to grab the fish pellets and chow down...however, every time I look at my green paly's I can see they are still munching on them, or I catch one in the act. I shoo them away with a stainless stick and even blow them off with my turkey baster and they still do it!
Any other advice before I get pissed and get rid of them?

I have just got my first sexy shrimp in my 10g nano tank. I am going to pick up two more from the LFS next week. Lots of corals, including zoas to spare especially some random patches of non-colorful ones, but I am planning to feed every day or every other day. I also have a peppermint shrimp.... any need I should be worried about fighting with the peppermint? Also, anyone else have trouble with percs stealing food from the tweezers before the sexy gets it?
The shrimp is already hosting under my torch coral!
Thanks

Congrats!

The pep shrimp shouldn't bother them at all and the as long as you move quickly enough, the percs won't steal the food.

Sorry about the frogspawn, but I highly doubt the sexies contributed to it's demise. Sexies will readily host long tentacle LPS like frogspawn/hammer/torch. How was it looking before you added the sexies?

So I'm adding new coral to the tank and my lone sexy shrimp (after I flushed the other two bastards) was looking kinda fat. Sure enough, babies!! Hundreds of them! ##### got pregnant while the other two boys were in town. What a slut.
The light turns off on the timer and I wasn't done topping off for the day so I turned it back on. And then BAM! She starts shaking her booty and like 20 babies fly off! And then a minute later she shakes really hard and there were hundreds!
Hundreds of babies! Swimming!
It was quite a moment for my family, hahaha. We all screamed so loud when it happened. We are all officially dorks now.
And then within 3 minutes my clownfish ate all the babies. No shens. The circle of life continues...
