So an LFS was having a 25% discount on tanks and such so my dad bought our 150g RR tank and stand. They have to order the tank as they are not in-stock and so it won't be setup for at least a month. for sure... I get pissed with my 24" high tank and thats already after I'm standing on a chair to reach into my tank. It sucks when something drops onto the sandbed... and you have to get it.

ya, i thought about that, me and my dad both love the high look of the tank. Also my lunar wrasse is reef-safe he is just not invert safe. my lion and the other i have had are always the most wussy fish in the tank. I have a couple fish the could easily fit in his mouth but he doesn't eat them.

Why would you use a mag 24?

Oh its not that, its the massive bioload of them in addition to the rest of the stocking list.

the skimmer and fuge should take care of it, no? I cannot get rid of them, my mom and dad won't let me.
oh, i never heard horror stories with mag pumps so that is why i got it.

For a 150g tank you'll probably need to seriously buff up your UV sterilizer if you want it to be effective. I'd go at least 3x the wattage of that one for a tank that large.
I'm using a 9 watt UV sterilizer on my 75 and it is woefully undersized IMO. It keeps the fish ich free but it has no effect on the algae in my tank.

I'm just including it in the list as I have it already from my 75g.

as of now the tank is sitting on my front porch. I got done painting it today and got the mega-flow kits, kinda crappy that they only come with the bulkheads for the hose not PVC. i'm also almost done with the sump. The setup date so far looks to be thursday!

today was the big move, it went pretty well. I don't have the plumbing yet but will get it tomorrow. This tank is so cool, i love the hight of it, and it is nice and long for the tangs, and the wrasse. i'll post pics tomorrow or something.

ok so finally we got the new lights and the skimmer. However the sump is too small so i'm upping it to a 75g sump, going to work on that today. I'll post pics of the lighting later.

i have a major cayno outbreak so, when it is gone i'll snap some shot FINALLY!
Some recent equipment changes:
GenX Mak4 pump
36w UV sterilizer
29g Sump/fuge, the 75g did not fit.
Also the lion died and the green chromis, for what looked like ich, the purple tang though is fine.

well finally i got rid of the cayno with an aggrisive 5 days lights out, it was going to be three days but there was a power outage on the last day that lasted till day 5. It worked actually REALLY well. I got the glass as clean as i could today and got some (a very lot) of pics. However one of my ballasts crapped out and i am only running 2 lights.
None The Less lets start with the fish:
Purple Tang:

Lunar Blue Wrasse:

Blue Velvet:

Clowns:

I'll put more pics up in a couple minutes.

Apparently those lumenbrights work best when they're super-high off the tank, like 16 inches, gets rid of that spotlight effect
http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-06/review/index.phpAwesome tank!

i think ours are at least 12" but the reason it is dark in the center is i connected the right side bulb to the other working ballast (the center one). Normally there is not a spotllight effect but in this case when only 2 lights are on it is a problem.
THANKS!

lunare wrasse + sea apple = tank of death
actually lunare wrasse + anything = fat lunare wrasse and tank of death.
i'd get him out ASAP if you ever want any sort of CUC, inverts, or other fish for that matter. my store doesn't even order them anymore because every one we've ever sold has been problematic for the buyer, even in larger predatory tanks--one of my customers had one that killed a lion, puffer, and trigger after sharing the tank with them for 3 years.
but the tank looks great

yes i know. the fish is just fine with the others. lunar wrasses are reef safe but not invertebrate safe, so that is why i don't have a cuc. as for bioload there are only 6 fish in there. though i think your not talking about bio load... anyway thank you.

thanks!
i got rid of it about 6 months ago it was tripping the GFCI when it was not even pumping water. it just died, so i ordered an external pump, a Genx mak 4 i thinks. it is a great, quiet pump. never going to get a mag pump again.

That Sea Apple is nearby the powerhead. It looks dangerous man. You have timer bomb in your tank.

ok i posted this so many times, i know. also the pump is moved away from it.
its getting about the time for new light bulbs, $200...
i was thinking XM10ks or 12K reeflux bulbs. I had the reeflux bulbs before and did not like them, but i didn't really have a good reflector, now i do, so maybe they'll look better. Nothing new in the tank, though i did just do a water change.

so it has been a while and the tank is still up and running. i think i finally found our problem with keeping some types of coral. Temperature stability. Only when the tank was setup did we have a thermometer on it, after the battery died i did not replace it. unfortunately one of our 250w heaters stopped working (no heat) and the tank was going through sever swings in temps, 73 at night to 82 during the day. That problem has been fixed.
also we lost our 2+ year old purple tang as she got stuck to one of our power heads.
lastly we got rid of our lunar wrasse in hopes of keeping a CUC and inverts.
