I do belive this event is going to ROCK. If you made it out last year, or heard that last year it was an ok event, we promise to blow you away this year.
9 speakers
30+ fraggers, some working 2 days, some only 1 day, and plenty of new stuff coming in on Sunday.
2 days of raffles, where the grand prize each day is a 29 gal bio-cube. The mega MASSIVE grand prize is a 22Z Zero Edge tank. Other items incude, gift certs, mag scrips, lots of lighting, aditives filters, bulbs, top off kits, fragging kits, a few RO/DI units, about $15K in all
Over 2 dozen vendors
Plenty of goodies, and free stuff to be handed out. Kent will be out with a ton of give aways, as will DT's with over 1200 bottles of thier new additive.
Frag Demos with free frags (and not all of it is ugly brown
This event has seen well over $50K put into it from the vendors to help make this a show stopper.
Visit www.midwestfragfest.com for info and to register.
**You can still register for the banquet today (4.20.08). The site says 4.18 is the cutoff, but we are leaving the cart buttons active until tonight**
Hope to see everyone there.

I am in no way part of this buisness , but do know the owners and there corals are of Top Quality . They will also be bringing some rare SPS frags , Good Luck and have fun .

For the people who could not supply enough to have bought a traders spot, are we allowed to mention a few things on here we would be willing to trade/sell at the fest?

If you want to sell there are still fragger spots available. $30 for one day $50 for 2 days.
If you have a few things to sell then post them and see what offers you get.
From some of the feedback I've been getting, there's going to be lots of great stuff available! Unfotunately our tank is not ready for corals!!

I will be going on Sunday. I have a few plates (one halimitra-if the offer is good enough), a small red/green brain, a large colony of red acans, and various zoas (huge pinks, some blues- not tubs or orgs, bright green) that I can bring if anyone is interested.
I am looking for a few polyps of PPE if anyone has any they can share. I also am looking for a tall tank <40g for seahorses.
Reminder to anyone selling - you can set-up Friday night from 7pm-9pm and Saturday morning starting at 7am.
I hope those of you that made it to FragFest had a great time! If there is anything that you would like to see done different or that you think could have been better - please let us know. Time to start thinking about next year!

well might want to start off by telling the hotel ahead of time that they will need more power from ComED lol
nah, it was a good show for sure. just kinda lame that all the drawings were at the end of the day and u HAD to be there to get them. i mean if u get there at 9am staying till 5 is PAINFUL to say the least.
what was the deal with the 1000 jugs of sea water there?
i mean there is no WAY those got used.

It was a great event and I picked up a lot of stuff so did my girlfriend. It was cool seeing all the new local reefers and some old friends.
q bical all that water was there for the vendors and fraggers so they can do water changes, so the corals dont get too stressed. Its also good to have extra than run short on water. Also what day where u there.

Looks like This event came and is gone.
What's a frag fest? I'm new to this hobby - and still learning the jargon.
Frag - is that a fragment of coral harvested from a thriving coral that's cut off to grow in another tank for sale or trade?
Is this type of event something that happens often in Chicago area?
Thanks

The event is over for this year and it was great! We are starting to plan next year already. You are correct on the definition of frag. FragFest is a huge frag swap, a vendor show, and a chance to listen to some great speakers! A frag swap is a chance to buy/sell/trade frags with other hobbists. It's a great opportunity to meet others in the hobby and to learn from them. The vendors usually have free samples of their products and you can get a chance to ask them questions. You can see pictures and see the info from this past year at
www.midwestfragfest.com
Fragswaps have become popluar and there is usually 1 a month that will be within a few hours drive. The next one I know of is at Drs Foster and Smith in Rhinelander, WI. They have an awesome facility and it is well worth the drive if you've never been there.
