This is incredibly off topic...but most defiantly wacky o_o

I once had someone tell me to NEVER use windex on an aquarium because it could seep through the glass and into the water......

No joke.

Okay, that is a little weird.
I would say to use caution in using Windex, but not for the reason that person told you.
Use caution because if you spray it while standing next to your tank, many small droplets are released into the air and some of them can get into your tank. Windex in reef tank water is NOT a good thing.
I use Windex, but I actually go into another room and spray it on a paper towel, then use the paper towel to wipe off the tank.
Use caution with all aerosol sprays in the vicinity of your tank for the same reason.

Hey seiryoku, you DID want to be in the tank contest, right?
I added your name to the list of contestants.
Seiryoku
I never use windex, just a wet paper towel :-p

Yeah I did, just hoping I can stay under budget >_<

Okay guys, serious aquarium question here.
My Nano-Remora skimmer was producing VERY watery skimmate with the MJ1200 on there, so I switched it back to the MJ900 tonight.
The thing is, in the entire time I've had it, this skimmer has always produced somewhat watery skimmate. It's never produced the thick black gunk that it seems everyone else's skimmer does.
Wassup with that?
I thought this was supposed to be a really good skimmer?
dtfleming
do you have an o-ring on the collection cup? If so trying moving it up more.
Needreefunds
A simple gift for BibleSue, cause I'm a simple man
One of these grouphug.gif and this too flower.gif
cuz we wub.gif you as you am.

That's about all I can E-give you Susan.

May your blessings be many,
may your frags grow a plenty
And I cannot think of anything else to say
That ain't been said already! rolleyes.gif

I hope you had a fantastic day Sue!!
dtfleming
You know there is no difference between wet and dry skimmate. One isnt better then the other. They both pull junk out and thats what you want.
Weetabix7
Yes, I have the O-ring.
Yes, I have adjusted it.
I thought that a skimmer that produced wet skimmate was skimming inefficiently.
I hear so many speak in glowing terms of the nasty sludge that a high quality skimmer pulls out.
BibleSue's skimmer sure pulls out some nasty stuff, I think it's a CSS 65.
WHY WON'T MINE DO THAT????

Yea, I always found that the drier skimmate you went for, the more likely heavier junk built up in the tube and then ceased ALL skimmate production.

Anyone else find the same?

Perhaps it differs some with skimmer quality / design but so far this has been my experience.
dtfleming
Just to clarify, You have the remora skimmer, not the nano remora? The mj1200 or rio pump is what you want, mj900 isnt enough for that skimmer. You only had the mj1200 on for a day, give it more time.

I have the NANO-Remora skimmer!!!
I had it on there for more than a day, at least two, and believe me it genuinely was skimming WAAAAY too wet!!! Wet enough that I had to actually add SW to the tank because of what it was removing.
dtfleming
I run my nano with a mj1200. move the o ring on the collection cup all the way down.

Heres a link on wet vs dry foam bottom of pg 7 and top of pg 8
Linky

Gillz
weetie maybe your tank is just so darn clean theres nothing to skim! smile.gif
dtfleming
hahah, could be, if you like the 900 go back to using it. I would put the o ring in the middle of the cup and let it sit for a couple days.

Thank you, that was very helpful!!!
When I had the MJ1200 on there, I did have the O-ring all the way down. It was still really, really wet skimmate.
When I had the MJ900 on there before and it was skimming, it collected the kind of skimmate that they said to aim for in the linky.
dtfleming
the skim mate I shoot for on my skimmers is a dark tea looking. not too wet or dry.

Okay, well dark tea is what I was getting before w/the 900 when it was producing skimmate, so I'm just gonna try the 900 for a couple days and see what happens.

On a different topic, for those of you in the contest, do you still think our established budget is workable or should we raise it a little bit?
Gillz
FYI... Daniel is going to the WAMAS forms for this contest! ATTACK! HE MUST NOT WIN! smile.gif

I got my 10 gal today at deathco.... it looks so sad empty on the ground. Good thing it wont be empty for long!
dtfleming
I dont think I'll have a prob with the budget. Ordered some stuff today for it tongue.gif
Gillz
I think it is workable requires being resourceful and having good planning. Stick with it
dtfleming

You know your not that much younger than me.

Alrighty, since I've got a few of you hanging out at the moment I figure it's a good time for an announcement.
I'm going to try to schedule a Guest Speaker once a week here in Weetie's Lounge.
After all, why not take advantage of the fact that Chuck Norris and Wonder Woman are actual NR Members, right???
Our first guest appearance will be from 9-10 pm EST tomorrow night, and what better guest for our first appearance than the one, the only, His Inimitable German Greatness, THE HOFF!!!
Yes, that's right, The Hoff will be here in Weetie's Lounge tomorrow night at 9 for a question and answer time, and to just hang out, kick back, and have some cookies with us.
While we certainly like to celebrate a sense of humor here at Weetie's Lounge, do try to keep the questions polite.
And when we bring refreshments tomorrow night lets try to bring some things that The Hoff might appreciate. A chocolate KITT cake would be awfully yummy!
Thanks Guys 'n Gals!

is he bringing his cell phone

No problem with the $$.

Stick to your guns L!!

You have the budget, stick to it. Seems peeps look for loopholes and new rules to make their idea or system fit rather than build their system to fit the rules.

Hey, if any of you guys need it I have a 20" 40w PC fixture that I might be able to pass on to someone for cheap. It needs a new bulb though.

I dunno, not a lot, I'll think about it. One of the legs broke off but I just superglued it back and it works fine.
I'm pretty sure the new bulbs are around $16.

Yup, even as I got a little older, my hair was so blond it was almost white... probably from the chlorine in our pool. tongue.gif
