I ordered a canopy from the same people. It took a while to get and communication wasn't great. When it arrived the plastic it was wrapped in had left marks in the paint. The guy told me he was sending me a new one and that I could just keep the marred one. Supposedly the new one will be here Wed. The price is great and the quality of the wood work is really good. I think they are having growing pains going from selling to LFS to selling to consumers. I say be patient. I have his cell # if you want it.
I have his cell #.
He doesn't answer the phone when I call, and he doesn't respond to any of the messages that I leave.
I totally agree with you that they are having growing pains from the transition and from what I've seen I think once they get there they'll be a good place to deal with.
But the amount of mistakes they're making right now really concerns me.
They brought a stand, tank, and canopy for Susan last week. Every part of the order was wrong.
They are completely redoing it and told her the tank would be free due to the error, but now that I hear about the problems you've had as well I'm even more concerned.
That's an awful lot of mistakes.
I'm wondering if I need to just back out of this and save $$ for 6 months to a year to get a system that's really set up the way I want it.
I dunno, still thinking and trying to look at all options.

I am getting a 30L drilled with an overflow box, a stand & hood! I would have taken delivery on the stand & hood if it had been as dark as the guy that was getting 3 stands & hoods but it was just too light to go with the wood tones in the room I am putting it.
I sent him an email about 5 CST asking for the inside measurements of the hood for a light I am looking at. He emailed me back right away. When he answered the phone last week, he said he had been in the staining booth most of the day & had just walked out & heard the phone. I'll post pics & feedback when I get mine. I am thinking he may have put off the delivery till Wed. because of the plastic issue you had. I was a bit concerned about that when he was going to do mine over & deliver it that quickly.

I couldn't agree more. Look at my situation. I was really about to flip after the move and crash and all of that. Found the local club and then the deal on the 75 and now I have a nice tank in my living room and Teresa has her own tank to work with. It just took time and patience, which I sorely lack. Teresa helped on that part,

, mostly by telling me no when I had my crazy ideas. She saw the ad for the 75 and let me do my thing. Worked out in the end very well.
A big +1 to biding your time and finding exactly what you want.

If it wasn't for the help of people like bluebastion, calvin and others around here I would have been out of this hobby years ago. I don't have money or equipment that I can donate to people so the best I can do is time.
Heck, being able to buy livestock is fairly new for me. Take a look back through my tank threads and you'll see livestock purchases few and far between. Most everything was a trade or charity.
Maybe someday I'll be able to do more but for now I'll do what I can.

I'm talking to a guy from craigslist right now who has a 30g w/homemade skimmer (no pump), an acrylic sump, a Python Overflow, an ATO, can't remember if it has a stand.
He says if I get it tomorrow I can have it for $100.
Only thing is, I don't have $100 on hand, I have to get it.
Here's the link:

If this one doesn't work, another will. There were 4 different setups on CL when I got my 75. Two days after I got my 75 a 120 was up for the same price. Later on a 150 setup was there for like $200 more. It just happens. Really, the way the economy is now people are rehoming or selling or adopting all sorts of pets and pet related items. There are many good deals to be had concerning equipment, etc.

Seems like a decent equipment list. Do you have a pump for that skimmer? Does he state why he doesn't have a pump for the skimmer? That's the only thing that might bother me. Did it break? Has he never used the skimmer? Other than that, looks like a nice little setup.

It's not a bad deal so long as the tank, sump & stand are in good shape. No scratches, no cracks, etc...
Not sure that any of the equipment is any good but if the main, important parts are in good order it might be worth it.
How bad do you want it? $100 bad? Or can you sit tight and wait for a better deal? You could offer him $75 and see what happens.

So guess what I found:
http://knoxville.craigslist.org/hsh/1045654101.htmlThe stand is homemade but sturdy, which is all I care about.
I just need it to be utilitarian, not beautiful.
The extra filters that come with it are HOB's.
My only concern is that the tank is old.
He's had it for a while, set up as FW, and says it has never leaked, but who knows.
I also don't know if it's drillable, due to age.
Mr. Fosi
Feb 22 2009, 08:18 PM
What does age matter with drilling?
55s aren't tempered... I don't think.
$50 is closer to the mark.

Not hard to build your own, actually. You've seen my thread - it's small but I guess it'd be the same principles with a larger tank. And that way you can get the exact look that you want - I wanted a cube except deeper to account for the rock wall. It was perfect!
Good luck

Feb 22 2009, 09:29 PM
Another nice little tank. And the $50 pricetag makes it a bit better than the last option as well. Homemade stands can be pretty stout IME. Not beautiful but functional nonetheless.

I'm VERY interested in the 30B w/stand for $50 I posted last night.
Also wondering if I should wait til Wed. to see if Ty from Ocea really does end up making and delivering that tank for me for free.

So I'm still up in the air.

Ya know, I happen to know where there's an undrilled 55 sitting. The stand is shoddy but has drawers that one may find useful. The back is even hand-painted by some guys crazy wife! Just don't tell her that. It would be free but the drive to IL would make it rather costly, LOL.
I dig the 30br dimensions as well but it is a tough decision. Bank on the generosity of the guy who failed you before or buy this and possibly end up with 2 tanks? Wait, 2 tanks? Why is this option bad?

No help at all.

Yes I knew you were kidding, me too.
I think I agree with Bill here. Pick up the 30B and whats the worst that can happen? You have a 30B.
Best case? You get the free tank as well. Where is the down side here?
Should he actually come through with the tank and its all you really hoped it would be, I doubt you would have much trouble selling the 30 off and getting most if not all your $$ back.
I just got home from a LFS run. Went looking for some emeralds. Ocean Gallery II ( now a sponsor ) had an order of 13 large zoo colonies from Korea that arrived this morning. They were just starting to peek and the colors looked awesome. I may have to go back in a day or two just to see them with full PE.
Luckily I couldn't get in too much trouble as I didn't have much $$ with me. So a couple crabs, one frag.
But then my loving wife decided to buy me a nice sized zoo frag.

Looked like gorilla nipples there, but seem to have a bunch of blue in them in my tank. We shall see tomorrow.
I have no idea why I just typed all that stuff about my evening in your tank thread Weets.....but I guess it is WL also.

Tell your wife "Hi", for me, kay?
That'd be neat if you went back when those Korean zoas are open and got some cool ones.
Personally, I'd love to see what Korean zoas look like!
The Blue Xenia frags have attached to their respective rubble pieces and are starting to look better today.
I'm still seriously thinking about the 30 Breeder thing.
One thing that's holding me off on that is that I'd have to totally change my lighting around, and that tends to not be cheap. The lighting I have now is 24" T5HO, so I'd have to do some figuring with that.
I'm still mildly worried about the age of the tank too. I'm pretty sure the guy told me the tank has been in his family since the '80's.

I'd have an antique aquarium!

So that's 6" of space on each side... Could do what I did with my Sunpod?
I bought a 20" b/c I was originally shooting for a 10g, then I cracked the 10g. So I made a couple blocks that would allow the Sunpod to sit not on the outer tank rim but on the inner lip. If I hadn't done that, I would have had to sell it and buy a new fixture and I didn't have the $$ for that.
Instead, I have a fixture that looks a little more sporty because it doens't hang over the edges.
