Ok, so I have an announcement for everyone.
I was kinda trying to keep it under wraps, but I've alrdy ended up talking to half the WL crew about it anyway, so....

I am having a custom tank built for me, and hopefully I will be picking it up tomorrow.
It will be 30 x 15 3/4 x 12.
It will have an overflow in the left rear corner and will be drilled for a Herbie Style overflow w/1" holes for the overflow and 3/4" return. It's gonna be drilled on the left side of the tank, not on the bottom.
I'm getting an Quiet One 2200 for the return pump.
It looks like I'll be getting a ball valve for the return and I already have a Gate Valve for the overflow.
Not sure yet what size the sump will be, it totally depends on space. If I set this up where I had already planned I'll be using a 10g for the sump.
If I can find a better place to put it, I'll be using the 20L that is set up right now for the sump.
This will be a little different in that the sump will not be underneath the display, it will be beside it on a lower level.
The 26gish Display will be on top of a dresser that is 40" off the ground and the sump will be about 28" off the ground.
I am planning to use the Sump to get back into Propagation again. happydance.gif
I want to put a 4x24w T5HO fixture over the sump, but will have to sell frags to raise money for it. That's a little more down the road.
I will have my Nano-Remora skimmer on the Prop Sump as well as an ATO. I got a DIY ATO kit for Christmas from BibleSue that I will use for this.
I have a couple other cool things that I'm gonna try to do with this, but I'm keeping those under wraps for now. ninja.gif

Once I get this set up, I will be moving everything that is in the 20L now into the Display portion of this system.
It may take me a while to get this whole thing going. Projects like this tend to move slowly for me due to having young children and budget limitations.
I'm excited about it though!
I'm not gonna start a tank thread for it til I get it up and going, so don't even ask.
kenny1
Insane tank. Keep up the great work. Your acans are so cool.
Lalani
Oh wow, sounds like a cool set-up, Weets. Can't wait to see it up and running. smile.gif

That is incorrect sir.
I got mine directly from D.
Of the 2 I got from you, one was sold to NRF and one was sold to L2.
So NRF got one from S and one from L.
And L2 got one from S and one from L.
Is everyone confused now??? tongue.gif

But D is right, they're taking over the aquarium of WL!

So when does MF (otherwise known as IMH) get some? I seriously need to set aside a few $$ of my income tax refund to buy some livestock.

Right now I'm just waiting for Mama Nem to split again.
I need to feed her to speed up the process.
I'm planning on making frags of Blue Xenia, Blue Cloves and Green Encrusting Gorgonian very soon, just LMK if you want any of those.
Needreefunds
Wow Weets! Sounds great!
We want pichers NOW!!!! tongue.gif
Where is the tank thread?? in the lighting forum?? huh.gif

Xenia doesn't ship well IME. Blue cloves and encrusting gorg sound nice. I don't know if I need enough to keep the gorg though.

I agree that Xenia is a difficult shipper, but I've done it successfully before. It has to be shipped overnight.
Green Encrusting Gorgonian doesn't need to be fed and is very low maintenance. It is similar to GSP in it's requirements and appearance, but is prettier. The polyps have a more delicate appearance and are a more intense green.
Mr. Fosi
Because I am lazy, could you post a pic of the gorg?

Very pretty stuff. I always sell all I take to swaps.
hcsceo
how invasive are they compared to GSP? Do they get on everything?
Mr. Fosi
I could easily maroon it out on the sand...

I have some in my 10g tank in my sig. It has not taken over on the rock but on the sand, I cut the runners & put in the prop tank. My daughter has some on a rock for a year & it didn't take over there either.

SPerry
I got some of that but thought it was just funny looking GSP. huh.gif My problem with the minis is I can never get them off the rocks.

I think I read here that someone uses an ice cube to help free them up. Anyone tried that?

Weetie, is that gorg from the Mayor originally? I had some, lost it and now have a tiny frag again. wink.gif

Oh, and Weets don't forget my triangle xenia transporter. happy.gif

I have a 100% success rate shipping Xenia that way.

OK, one frag....but hey it made it from NJ to St. Croix wink.gif biggrin.gif

Just now saw this. It's 30" long.

Slight delay in getting the new tank, it's supposed to be delivered on Friday now.
The name of the place building the tank for me is Ocea if anyone is interested.

Ok what is a Herbie Overflow? I looked it up and the post explaining it made my head hurt.

My 20L has a 1" overflow and is about maxed out with a 500GPH return. It looks odd since I dont have lights in the display yet diatoms are growing like crazy in the sump.

I hope I won't have problems with the Quiet One 2200 being too strong for the return pump then, cause it's rated for around 5900 gph.
What are you using for your return pump?

I know what you mean about the explanations making your head hurt, I had the same reaction.
I sent a PM to neanderthalman for an explanation that made sense. Hopefully he won't mind me quoting his explanation here:

"If you have room for two bulkheads, one above the other, then there's an even easier drain method called the herbie method. It's so awesome. The idea is to prevent any air, at all, from getting into the system. It's quieter than the durso, and you get virtually no bubbles.

In the herbie method, you have two drains, one is high, the other is low - that's why you need two bulkheads. The high drain isn't normally doing anything, it's there in case something goes disastrously wrong with the bottom drain. Just plumb the high drain right down to the prop tank, you don't need T's or airlines or nothing. Just pipe. You also plumb the bottom drain down to the prop tank any way you like, but with one change - you put a valve on or near the end of it. The idea is to have the bottom drain take all of the water, but the valve lets you "throttle" the drain - like kinking a garden hose.

What this lets you do is force the water level inside the overflow box to rise high enough that air can't get sucked in with the water, but not high enough to reach the top bulkhead. Also, by putting the bottom end of the drain under the water level in the prop tank, there is no place for air to ever enter the drain, and it stays almost absolutely silent - quieter than most pumps."

HTH.

Will you use it to fill your swimming pool?!

What head will the pump be subjected to? Have you run your plumbing specs through a head loss calculator? I have a stand-alone version that includes a couple other pumps if you want it.

Hope you just have too many 0 in there. LOL You should be fine. Between the drop for height and you can always throttle it with a ball valve on the output.

What are you using for your return pump?
I have a MagDrive 5

That explanation makes sense. Sounds cool.
dtfleming
Weeties its rated for 596gph not 5900. holy chit. just use a ball valve to control the amount of flow back to the tank. I 1" overflow will do around 600gph.
Weetabix7
I know, I know, I know, it was a typo w/1 too many 0's, sheesh! blush.gif

I have some ideas involving dual locline output and Hydor Flo's to slow down and disperse the return output into the tank somewhat, but I'll probably get a Ball Valve too.

Head loss calculator doesn't work cause it doesn't have the Quiet One 2200 on it.
Mr. Fosi
The stand-alone version I mentioned doesn't have it either, but it will give you a measure of how much pressure you have and it's foot equivalent which is independent of the pump model. Let me know if you want it and I'll email it to you.

Did I hear blue cloves mentioned?

And minis?

And the Mayor?

And c est ma?

Wow, old times. Definitely good ones though. biggrin.gif

We'll definitely have to get a piece of red cap into that thing before long.

Trade Red Cap for Blue Cloves mebbe?
We'll figure something out when it's time.

sad.gif ....Diane ......Mark.....miss them both too.

Quite a few folks from my early NR lurking days that are not around much, if at all anymore.

Happy to see IMH here a bit more of late. I know he does not have much "free" time.

Ok, who has the popcorn?? unsure.gif

I'm right on the verge of cancelling my order with the place that's supposed to be building my tank.
SERIOUS communication issues and constant delays have me quite worried about the quality of work I can expect from them.

Probably not for a price I can afford.
I don't really know of any other places in the area that build tanks anyway.
I feel really conflicted about the whole thing.
I'm getting it for an unbelievable price and they're even delivering it to my area at no extra charge, mostly cause so many other ppl in my area have ordered tanks for them to build at the same time.
But this is the 3rd time they've rescheduled cause it wasn't ready yet, the guy doesn't return my phone calls, and I've had to email him the specs twice cause I guess it got lost in the shuffle the first time or something.
To be fair, their main guy who does their glass-cutting hurt his hand badly last week and is out of commission, on top of which they've gotten a ton of orders in the last month and because of those 2 things I know they're having a hard time keeping up.
The main guy I've been dealing with has had to hire and train new people on top of doing the out of commission glass-cutter's work as well.
They normally do wholesale and they just opened up to the public.
I dunno, I'm trying to tell myself to be patient.
But this is the 3rd delay and the guy won't return my calls!
The only way I know what's going on is through Susan. He's doing stuff for her too, and if pressed he'll actually email a response to her.

I ordered a canopy from the same people. It took a while to get and communication wasn't great. When it arrived the plastic it was wrapped in had left marks in the paint. The guy told me he was sending me a new one and that I could just keep the marred one. Supposedly the new one will be here Wed. The price is great and the quality of the wood work is really good. I think they are having growing pains going from selling to LFS to selling to consumers. I say be patient. I have his cell # if you want it.
