Thanks Merc, I think I'll be alright in the long run.
You should talk to Monkfish, I don't think he was very impressed with that skimmer.
I haven't had any personal experience with it myself though.
Mercuryne
ohh the plot thickens..
interesting.. Stevie T says good things about the tuunze...i'll have to do a little more research.

hey quick one for you.
in setting up my biocube 8g.. there is a bottom intake grate for water to flow through as well as the top of the tank overflow.

Some people silicone up the bottom one to force all the water over top of the floss..

you thoughts?

good ? bad?
Weetabix7
I'm not sure on the grate, sorry.
I've never really messed with AIO's so I'm not terribly knowledgeable on them. I'd just go with what StevieT or other AIO guru's say.

Just talk to Monkfish on the Tunze, he said he thought it was kind of flimsily made.

If I may.....
I do not have a 9002 ( yet wink.gif ) but I do have a 9010 running in my prop tank.

Its true, first thoughts are " wow, all that $$ for this light plastic POS ?? "

The "body" of the skimmer is somewhat cheesy feeling.

BUT the dang thing just performs. I had to remove and clean entirely only once ( not for a problem, just for GP ) since its been running. The best thing for me is every time you clean the collection cup you are also cleaning the reactor "chamber".

First impression may be a let down as it was with me......but after running a few days I will probably always be a Tunze fan.

JMO/ E.
HTH Merc.

Oh and I would THINK blocking the lower intake would make for more better surface skimming. ( like dat , more better??) laugh.gif EDIT---- on the biocube that is lol

And NRF, thanks for all the input for Merc. flower.gif

Since we are talking skimmers, I'll share my tiny bit of wisdom. When I was researching, I checked with Prop & he recommended an Octopus. He said needle wheel skimmers seem to five the best results. That was a couple of years ago. I ended us with a used Sea Clone & have been very happy with it. I keep it in my sump on the prop tank but took it out, cleaned it & put it on my 10g kitchen tank since hubby lost a part for the small skimmer & the water needed help. It has almost filled the cup in under 30 min. HTH

I second L's question regarding all this discussion of fishes. You people think this is a forum about reefs or something?
Monkfish
The 9002 does do exactly what its suppose to do just so much money for a piece of plastic geez. Also it doesnt work right if the the water line isnt consistant (at least in my experience). Id check out cheaper options that are effective if there are any.
Mercuryne
laughing..

allow me to apologize to the good folks of Weetie's lounge for taking the discussion to tanks and hardware..
hahahaha.

but here i go again. haa im a madman. i cant stop myself.

i recently turned my stock skimmer of (it wasnt doing well anyway)
since have seen pretty good cyano bloom.. can only guess that's it.

preciate all of the thoughts about the 9002 and others.

Weets...

hey since i chanced my MH bulb last week you should see the color of your Ashley's Angel Food? or Angel hair? zoa's. they turned a really intense pink/purple color.. i'll take pics this weekend and send to you.
but really noticed it this morning when i checked the tank.. really intense color these days.. i didnt realize that the change in MH bulbs could not just make them look different.. but actually change their colors.

So now I just hang out in the basement at Weeties, just me and Finn and those beer swillin bastages from next door.

Not like it used to be. Stale popcorn and moldybread.

Weets,

You haven't told me about the beer swillin bastages from next door!?!

I've had the 9002 before and loved it. I plan on getting another one here shortly. Also look at the saphhire aquatics new skimmers, them seem to work well. www.nanotuners.com

Heck yeah, change in lighting will most definitely cause a color shift in many zoas and sps.
Honestly, you have more Ashley's Angelfood zoas than I do now, I'm down to only 2 polyps!
If I ever lose mine, you're my back up. I'm okay with losing some things, but those have sentimental value for me.

LOL!
Before we put the fence up, I noticed that there were some empty beer cans that were turning up at the foot of one of my trees in the backyard.
I'm guessing it was some teenagers from one of the houses behind me. They all have open yards and before the fence it was pretty easy to go from one backyard to another.
It's become a bit of a Weetie's Lounge joke. laugh.gif

And now for a little tank update...
Had to toss the Blue Polyp Purple Cap last night, it just kept losing too much flesh. Luckily I still have 1 frag left of that, we'll see how it does...
Pokerstar Monti has lost about half it's flesh right in the center of the frag but is still hanging in there. Has polyp extension on the remaining portion, so I'm guardedly hopeful.
The tank is responding very positively to my continued Mg supplementation.
The Frogspawn from the Swap (not Merc's) that had a gaping mouth on one of it's heads appears to be healing and is inflating nicely every day.
Alrdy seeing growth on my new Blue Xenia/Cepistularia.
The Duncan I was having problems with is looking better today.
On the whole, things are looking good and I'm happy!

This is what my new Frogspawn from Mercuryne's tank looks like! happydance.gif happydance.gif
(pic brazenly stolen from Merc's Algae Farm thread)

My other frogspawn has been letting little bits of Spawn lose to terrorize the other inhabitants. Anyone else had this happen?
Just found a tiny bit o glowing green Spawn on a Teal Staghorn that I had been successfully rehabilitating. Got the Staghorn dipped and back in the tank; it's strong, it'll probably recover.
I strongly suspect this is what happened to my Pokerstar overnight too.
Lani, has your Frogspawn ever done this? huh.gif
I ask because my Frogspawn that is doing this reminds me of the one you have in your 20H.

Nooooo, I'm sorry!!!

I just found a small glowing, green frogspawn fragment on my beautiful brain coral that I've had for ages, and the Brain was slightly squinched up.
What the heckly shmeckly is this, some new form of coral warfare I haven't heard of before???
I may end up having to trade this Frogspawn in at the LFS if this keeps up.

Is there a clown in there?
Mercuryne
Ive seen that maybe two times in the past year..

just little bits of green spawn in the sand bed.... but not often and its never annoyed anything else.. weird..

Yes, but he doesn't try to host it or mess with it in any way.
I see certain tentacles get long and elongated, kinda like sweeper tentacles, and I think they just release a tip when they get long and skinny enough.

It doesn't look annoyed that I can tell, looks full and fat and happy.

So I have my new Green Frogspawn stuck in a corner of my tank now, behind a small LR wall.
Everyone seems to think that high flow could be the culprit of it loosing little tentacle bits all over the tank and stinging several other corals.
I don't really have a low flow area in this tank, and I really like the way the flow is now and don't want to change it.
The far corner that the Frogspawn is in now is in the lowest flow area in the tank, and it doesn't seem to have stung anyone in the 2 days since I've moved it there.
I hate to think of getting rid of it though, it's really pretty.
Basically, I have 3 options.
-Trade it in at the LFS.
-Keep it in this tank and so some special aquascaping just for this coral so it's off all by itself on that one side of the tank. Seems like a lot of effort for just one coral, although I do really like the look of it.
-I have a lil acrylic 3g Pico in the basement, I could set that up for just the Frogspawn and put some Sexy Shrimp in with it. Frogspawn is big enough to fill the main area of the display and Sexies and this Frogspawn together would look cool. Downside is, I'd have to use the puny light that comes with the Pico and I don't really need to set up another tank right now.
Sry for all the coral talk and stuff, just felt like rambling at you guys. happy.gif
clownfish1124
i think you should do option 2 since you like the coral so much. i don't think another tank is needed, but what about the contest tank?
