Might be picking up a free fish from a local this weekend. Its a purple fire fish thats been bullied by her tang. Depends on if we can work out a pick up time. This will be my first fish in almost 5-6 months. lol

Sry I haven't been around much lately.
Lotsa family stuff going on and been tired.
I really need to work on my Contest Pico, gotta get my FTS posted for this month.
It's completely disorganized in there, but luckily that Pico carries off the Random Disheveled Jungle look off fairly well!

i don't know what i'm going to do. i guess i'll have to move all the coral back into a temp tank with the smaller t5 light until i can either get another ballast or get a new fixture. just my ####ing luck.

This is a new new fixture, or a new-to-you light?
Fixture was 6 mo. old. Guy I got it from is well known and well liked around here so I don't think he knew about the issue. You can't know when a ballast is going to go anyways.
If I get a new ballast, I might fix the light and sell it and buy a Tek or NEP or something. I'm so pissed right now.

oic... not that I was looking to start slinging mud- just wondered if there was a possible warranty and perhaps moving the corals was not necessary. -- EDIT- if a replacement would be available in a couple days that is...

I have been in a reefin'sux sort of mood lately- mebe we shouldn't talk to each other right now.
And back to the sps question... I have just completed a three day lights out on my RSM and the slimer and birdsnest are happy as can be
For SPS, light is about a distant third to movement and water quality I've found. As long as you maintain those two (and there's something there for the coral to actually process into energy) you should be able to get about a week before you notice any real problems. Don't forget, on the actual reef these things can go weeks with storms and no real light to speak of...

Thanks guys - and sorry to hear Richie . My monti was about the size of a child's fist - it was worth a couple hundred I'm sure. So sad to see it go.
As for the ballast, if I don't hear back from Wavepoint, I'll get a workhorse 7 ballast shipped this week. I think the LED's will work until then. Thanks for the info Nork. That helped me calm down a bit.

Not a drama man. People worry too much over light. Simple fact is there's more important stuff to fuss over 
if you've got the LEDs to take care of it, I wouldn't stress - they'll more than cover you until the time comes.
In other news... I gave in last night and bought my very first Acans...

I like acans alright...haven't owned any of the really nice pieces though.
I've just... never really understood them. I mean, tanks full of them just look silly, and the prices people ask (especially in the US) are just insane. Same with any fashion coral really. That said, we can get some fantastically-coloured ones around here without the stupid pricetag if you know the right places. If I had more space there was about 5 I would've got just yesterday.

Oh, definitely. As a filler they're pretty cool, but when they become the focus of the tank it's just irksome.
I hear ya Richie...... I kinda get that same feeling sometimes. I've had all kinds of crazy algae making things look just a bit yucky, but nothing that's really taking over. Even the bubble algae seems to have stopped. I just need to get a couple of good WCs and a really good cleaning, and then I think I'll feel better about it.

I haz a new fishie, a purple frogspawn/torch (I say its a torch the guy at the fs called it a frogspawn), and a blue yuma. My hubby loves me.
We also went and saw Salt yesterday. It was pretty good.

I should get my new tank in a couple of weeks.
Hubby and I have to refinish LR floor before I can put it up though, since it'll be going in the LR.
He pulled up the horrible, nasty old carpet while we were at Grandma Sue's, now we just gotta sand and refinish the hardwoods.
Trying to figure out how to do that with the Destructobots around.
A, its pretty easy to tell the difference between the frogspawn and torch.

It has some split tentacles, but most of them are just single headed tentacles. Looks more like a torch to me. I'll try to get pictures sometime this week, but I'm back to the studying grindstone so I don't know when it will be.
Weets if the space is small enough you could stain it while the destructobots are asleep and then block it off while it dries during the day.
The tent outside idea of Richies is a great one it could keep them entertained and out of your hair and the house during the day.

So I got the new stand polyurethane'd and set up this weekend. Tank is up and running, sorta. using a 5 gallon bucket as a sump for the time being. Still cloudy as of this morning, hopefully tonight i can do the transfer of the pico into the new tank.
I am going to use the old sand to seed the new sand but want to minimize the cycle caused by the transfer. Can I rinse (in saltwater) the old sand to get rid of detritus and keep the bacteria and such or will the rinse get rid of everything?
Still haven't put in the vortech, the sand cloud made me nervous, and since i have wanted one of these since i started reefing, i don't wanna mess it up on the first go.

I would think rinsing the old sand in SW would be a good idea.
Just don't add any water from the old tank after you start stirring up the sand.
