I'm not condoning violence, but at the same time, I don't see why everyone insists on a GB vs. US distinction. The colonists were citizens of GB at the time of the revolution. They were just treated like crap. Similarly, US citizens are treated like crap by our government.

Just a brief rundown, but don't these sound familiar?

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us,

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Lifetime Monarch =/= President bound by 4 year terms. If Obama somehow made himself president for life with supreme authority, I would think differently.

Even at the time, the Monarch (which the UK still has) was becoming a figurehead. It was parliament who committed most of the intolerable acts that enraged the colonists (eg. the stamp act). However, to rouse the public anger, they targeted the king, rather than the supposedly representative part of the government.

Also, the problems aren't limited to Obama. Liberty has been under serious attack since the New Deal.

Liberty is always under attack. It's been under attack for all of history. In our country, the very beginning had Hamilton pitted against Jefferson in a battle around liberty. A violent overthrow of our government is a ridiculous idea. It's unnecessary and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. The truth of the matter is that on a global scale, liberty is winning. Communism/Socialism is failing left and right.

The trouble is that everyone seems to forget about that failure, and they keep trying it again and again.

Also, no one said that the overthrow had to be violent. Our current Constitution was an overthrow of the government formed under the Articles. Three of Jefferson's better known quotables are appropriate here:

"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established, should not be changed for light and transient causes; and, accordingly, all experience [has] shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But, when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce [the people] under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security."

“Every generation needs a new revolution.”

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

Haha nice job A with the boobies.

Hi Richie!

I'm abstaining from the problems with this country discussion, but I really like that last Jefferson quote.

If I thought a libertarian had a chance to win, I'd vote for them. Otherwise, I can't risk taking a vote away from the lesser of the two evils of the two parties (usually the Rep). Especially now that NC, and my county in particular, are getting less and less red and starting to actually matter in elections.

i'll drink it in a pinch. not my favorite stuff though. you can find too many really good microbrews in bars around here. sixpoint is a brooklyn brewery that's way better than the b-brewery stuff, imo.
