still looks great man..
Thanks Keith. I finally put the acros back into the display tank, but this time I put them all on mag racks so I can observe them more closely. I'm sure they appreciate the higher water quality and it's already starting to show in their polyp extension. It's gonna take a while before I can get them to color up again though. At least the redbugs are dead...
... so far anyway.

All is good on the home front. Now that they're back in the display, the acros look happier than ever. As a precautionary measure, they have been placed on mag racks until I am more confident that the redbugs are truly gone. Could be another month at least before I am assured that a re-infestation will not occur. The far extension of their polyps assures me that they have a pretty good chance of coloring up brightly. I'll be going back to my increased feeding regimen soon...

Ouch! Must say, one of the biggest downsides to this hobby is the inevitable move that never is apparent upon embarking on and amoungst the excitement of the setup and installation of our beloved tanks. Oh how quickly they become the bane of our nightmares.
I personally have gone through such a move, although at the time I had a 75 gallon that was up and running for about 2-3 years. The enourmity of the task was so daunting I ended up selling the beast prior to the move JUST so I didnt have to dissassemble and stress about the reassembly

. In fact, I think thats what got me into nano-reefing in the first place.
Good luck to ya Purp, and IF you have the time - I would love to hear of the move and reassembly process - Heck, I think we could all use a lesson on how to do it right, and avoid the numerous pitfalls

.

Holy crap, great tank!!! Just read through all 43 pages worth. My only question is that I'm thinking about buying the RO/DI unit you have and don't know what the RO tank does. Isn't there a waste water drain on the unit? So what is the purpose? Do you have to empty it periodically? Is it what the drinking water spout connects to?
Once again, great job on the tank!! Glad the move went good.

Thanks! It'll be a little while before I can get it looking like it did a few months ago. For the past 2 months I've been running back and forth to the other house DAILY in attempts to keep my params in check. For the most part they were until I decided to go once every other day. That's when my hard corals began fading! One word of advice for anyone considering moving: DON'T.
The propane-looking tank holds about 4 gallons of reserve RO water so that you don't have to drip the filtered water directly into your bucket - which could take a very long time. Yes, there is a waste water tube that taps directly into your sink drain. The tank does connect to the drinking water spout, but it goes through a 7th odor and taste filter 1st. Tastes great too! Hopefully that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Here are some work in progress pics. The tank is sitting on a 1" thick glass table. Try not to vomit,
the clip-on light is only temporary. I should have my pendant hung from the ceiling by early next week! I went with less live rock this time to give my guys more room to grow. Sadly I had to remove my yellow turbinaria since it demanded so much space. Anyone want to trade? It's about 7" wide and 5" tall.
I think the birds nest will have to step up to the plate and become the new centerpiece as soon as it turns neon again. Oh and those acro frags are on the rack b/c I found redbugs again! I isolated them in a pico and dosed them last night with interceptor, which I'll keep doing until I don't see them anymore. If all else fails, I won't have any acros in here and go with encrusting montis instead. Those little buggers are nasty F******.
BTW: I took apart the RapidsPro and used an extra 10G AGA for my sump. I like the way the aqua lifter and return pump work to prevent flooding, so I decided to use those parts for now.

I'll take some macros when they start to liven up a bit in their new home. Lots of recovery to do still...

Haha. thanks. Life just wasn't the same without it, even though it was only a couple miles away. It was stressful worrying about the livestock, while we moved all of our other stuff into this new house. Good thing the tank was established. Otherwise it wouldn't have made it through weeks without water changes!
You know it's weird that it doesn't need a surface skimmer anymore. I suppose after a good cleaning it now sucks most of the surface scum into the filter. So all I have in there now is a Koralia 1 and the overflow box. I do miss the old aquascape though. All I need is more time and SUPER GLUE.

Thanks for the re-welcome, Uhuru. I'm not surprised those RBs came back. There definitely weren't encrusted acros left behind in the main display. I figure some probably survived in the main display somehow someway. I don't know. Nature finds a way I guess. I assumed the risk when I decided not to dose my entire tank. And I still won't do it since my acro frags are just frags and they're now dull anyhow. We'll see what happens if I occasionally treat them in an isolation pico as needed. I still have 1.5 pills left! Oh, I lost the large purple acro colony to the RBs last month. Actually, I decided to euthanize it bc it was so heavily infested

Here's another pic with most of the tank's original inhabitants now moved back in (except the yellow turbinaria centerpiece). Funny thing, it's hard to tell that anything really went wrong in there. You can tell that everything needs to color up again though. In time.

My purple firefish passed. Wasn't feeding as frequently as before. She will be remembered. I'm thinking about getting that fairy wrasse. Hmmm...

Sorry to hear about the purple acro and the firefish as well. Sounds like you have a replacement in mind already though

Even though I know your corals aren't up to their full potential with all of the moving and treatments, the tank is still a stunner and amazing to look at.
Glad that you are back on here again, have your tank all in one place, and are posting pictures. I always look forward to your updates.

thanks reefstud, after reading your posting I decided to move the turbinaria back in! There's a nice corner in the rear, where it tucks nicely into a crevice. I figure in another 3 mos it'll be touching the glass and will either have to be fragged or traded.

LOL. All of the above. However, I don't think I'll be taking the plunge anytime soon. Perhaps when I have a larger system and when I can afford to experiment with this one. If I were going to do it, I'd drill a hole at the dead center bottom of the tank for a center overflow. *Now it's not the granite counter I have to worry about, but the 1" glass it's now resting on! I definitely wouldn't drill that. It cost me $1800!!!

Thanks! The light itself is great, but over a smaller nano like a BC14 it gets incredibly hot! Today, I rigged a fan to the arm, which brought temp 2 degrees lower than when I had the same fan facing the top of the sump. As far as the evap, be prepared to add 3 cups per day of top off water to compensate. That's where an ATO comes in real handy.

Jul 6 2008, 09:29 PM
By incredibly hot what range are you talking about? Mine is currently in my basement which has pretty stable temps all year and the tank is about a steady 79 degrees.
