Steve and Needreefunds thanks for the cable tips.
regarding the water and LR status my NO3 levels are HI.
From what I see with the salifert tests (purple color indication) its close to 100ppm! (aprox 80)
I am waiting an EXPERT tomorrow who is going to bring me some caeto ,and I am going to do 20 to 30% water change every 10 days.
Some green algae is starting to show on the rocks.I am going to measure also Phosphate tonight (I just bought a salifert).
So the LR was cured from LFS from what I can tell thats why I did not had any ammonia & NO2 spikes.
Time will tell

Thanks

I would advise against doing a water change if you are still cycling your tank, just let it do its thing and be patient.

Dec 16 2009, 12:13 PM
100 seems a bit high even for a new tank. If the tank is not going to cycle because the rock is cured then you can do a water change. Get that number way way way down before stocking.
StevieT Note for record keeping: Changed MH bulb this morning. Phoenix 14K, what a difference from the Giesemann 14.5K. Let the burn in begin.

So guys I did put the chaeto in the tank, did some water changes but the nitrate thing was FALSE ALARM
I was measuring with the salifert tests but I was looking the test vial by side (/10) !!!
SO I guess my nitrates level is about 8 to 10...
My other measurements are
No2=0, NH4=0, CA=430, dKh=11.8, PH=8.0, Mg=1290
Some brown and some green hairy algae is starting to bloom but the 2 Turbo , 4 strobus snails and 3 stomatela's are doing magnificent job.

My RSM EXPLODED!!!!!!
Almost a year to the date and at 3am my RSM cracked from the frontside top completely around the bowed corner clear to the bottom of the tank!
I was just reading back on some of the old stuff and I completely missed this post. This exact thing happened to me. Luckily I was sitting on the couch when it happened. I heard a loud 'tink' sound and looked over in awe to see water shooting out from the curved corner. The tank had cracked from the frontside top and then shot towards the curved corner. Luckily I was home and reacted faster than anything and grabbed a garbage can to let the water shoot into as someone ran to grab towels.
This happened on a Saturday and I made sure to get in touch with them on Monday. I had a new tank on Thursday. I lost some livestock but it could have been worse.

I didn't rip off the rim at the top to see if there were any noticeable defect in the glass at the top. I forgot to mention the tank had been up and running for 6 months. My personal belief is that it was a defect in the glass. At least the second one has been going strong for maybe a year and a half or so (crosses fingers).
Pictures have proved to refresh my memory..it was the side top to the corner.

I'm much more of a reader as I consider myself a novice to many of you. I can usually search or read through posts to find answers. This thread has been awesome and I've modeled some of my tank after things you have done. I have the Tunze (kinda, I ordered a new one last night as my current one has issues), just ordered my second set of your media basket and Tunze cup and I have the same light.
I attached a picture above of the cracked tank.

Guys I also have the same light fixture (got it off a fellow reefer here).
Loving it so far becides the fact that I need to order a new bumb, as the stock one is causing crazy algae on the glass. Stevie hows the phoenix treating you ?
Let me ask you guys this......
As I got the fixture used, I noticed that the fan only comes on when the antics are on.
And when its on I guess its loud enough to notice. Is this normal ?

I like the new bulb. Much more blue than my last 14.5K. 100 hour burn in will be when I return to the office tomorrow.
My fan comes on when the MH turns on, that is what it is for. It is not on when the actinics are only on. It makes a fan noise, I wouldn't call it loud since a reef tank with that much light needs cooling. Loud is judged differently but yes I can hear it.

not sure what fixture u guys are talking about
but i have a sundial fixture, and it does the same thing, actinic = fans, anything else leaves the fans off
maybe because people dont usually turn on the 10000k without the actinics? i dunno

Thats what i figured.
I found it strange why the fan only comes on with antics only and not when the MH is on. I'll have to open the fixture up and see whats going on.

It's the outer orbit.
Here is a response that I got from current.
Dear Sir,
Re: Outer Orbit 150w Model #1070
The fan turns on when the Actinic blue T5HO lamps are activated – they are usually on the longest amount of time.

Correct. What happens if you turn ONLY the MH on? No fan? I hear your ballets blowing up right now.
If I turn my actinics off the fan stays on to cool the MH.

That is a long day. Mine is 11 hrs from sunrise to sunset. Leds are on in the morning and nigh but do shut off and have a moon rise/set effect. That is up to you.
Also keep your actinics on during the MH period and if your actinics control the fan than how would it be on with your MH? Or do they both turn on the fan? you have me confused.

Damn, I did'nt even realized that you responded.
So the answer is that I will keep the antics running whilst the MH is running as the fans from the antics will keep the MH cool.
How long do you keep the MH on for.
Also the main reason I came back to your thread was to tell you the I received the RSM Media Basket and the 3 poly pads today, thank you.
Poped it in with the Poly pad on top, Chemi-pure elite in the middle chamber and purigen once I place a well needed order from MD and/or DF&S

Well......
StevieT is not having a good Monday. Copy and paste from my threadhttp://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...p;#entry2616668It can happen to anyone at anytime. Trusting your entire tank to one electrical device makes life simpler, stabilizes temperatures, regulates your lighting schedule and gives you vital data to keep a successful reef aquarium.
Unless it fails
Every Monday morning for two and a half years I have been nervous to look at my tank. After leaving the tank at the office for the weekend it was always in the back of my mind that something would fail. For 2.5 years my nerves were settled when that first glimpse produced nothing but a nice reef tank, Monday after Monday after Monday.
Not today...
All corals closed up.
Bangaii Cardinal in in-take grate
Clown on opposite side of the tank where she never ventures close to the sand
Mandarin laying on a rock not moving
One touch to the glass and all my fears are confirmed. One finger in the water and my heart stops. I quickly look at my Reef Keeper lite L3 display and there in an iTemp error. I turn on my pinpoint display and the temp reads. 61°.
You have got to be kidding me.I hook the heater back up to the RSM control panel, turn the thermostat to 79° and it begins to warm up. I investigate the temp probe and it is shot. One flick on the end makes the iTemp display switch between 90-114° quickly and then it just goes to error.
#### #### ####
The entire tank has a white gross death look. The water is not clear, the corals are a few degrees/hours from death and the fish are in hibernation mode.
Temp increasing slowly, fingers crossed for a recovery. I am sure there will be looses but my suspicion is that it failed yesterday (Sunday) and luckily not Saturday. My gut tells me the fish will be fine and most of the coarls should be, we will see about the SPS.

After warming a few degrees

That's bad news. Exact same thing happened to me a few months ago. I lost everything. By the time I got the temperature problem fixed, my very large colony of Zenia decided to liquify and nuke the tank. I salvaged a few items for other tanks....but it was basically a total loss.
I hope you have better luck than I did.

Thanks guys I appreciate it. Just another chapter to document on this thread.
The tank looked OK when I left work. Did a water change but the display was still very cloudy white. I will do another tomorrow and probably bring in my HOB and run even more chemi pure elite.
The only upside if the tank does decide to crash or goes even worse is that I will move it home so I can actually view it. But I don't want that to happen, starting over would be a blow. I hope the most for the mandarin and my clown (who is pretty hardy.) She is part of my logo and it would be a huge loss for inTank marketing. Probably a nice tax write off though

I think the biggest surprise was my purple corcea clam didn't care one bit. It was fully open the entire time.

Any questions please send me a sametime or respond to ticket.

We have IT staff on the east cost on in Denver, CO, this isn't like a small operation where you just call a service and have them do it.
We'll see, I figured give it a try if it doesn't work I'm not out money.
