Stevie, how's the Mandarin doing? I saw in one of your earlier posts that you got one. I am thinking about getting one too. BTW, thanks for the media rack, I love it!

Doing great. Just fed her a few minutes ago. He still eats rods food every other day. Enjoy the rack, thank you!

Your new job sucks for us Nano Reefers. How dare they keep you from posting daily or even hourly updates on your RSM. I miss the constant updates with pictures. Please come back Steve! smile.gif

I'm here enough still just not all day long since it doesn't look good to the co-workers. Not as many photo updates but I did a few very recently.

OMG those clown pix are so cool!

Too bad my LFS does not carry Rods, I would like to try it. Anyway I got my Mandarin and gave him some live brine shrimp and he liked it!! I'll be mixing it with frozen Mysis tomorrow, hope he bites. Also, I just ordered the Outer Orbit and I should get it on Tuesday. I am so excited!

Can't wait to see your custom cover too, what's up with that?
StevieT
If I get time I will make the filtration cover for my tank. I just don't have much free time with the day job and inTank

StevieT - that clown is awesome!

I guess if you ever had to take him out of the tank, this would make it easier...
Jeffry83
I too have a Mandarine, but not the same one but a male Synchiropus marmoratus... Till now he does not eat frozen food but is only interested in living food. My clown only went in the bubble tip anemone but once... Well, it's a start happy.gif
StevieT
how long have you had it now?
Jeffry83
Uhm,,the Anemone,clown or mandarine?
StevieT
Mandarin

god your AV is annoying
Jeffry83

The mandarin i got now for i think 4 weeks, he is doing well and even the purple colors on his cheeks are getting more brighter... I have seen allot of life in the tank he eats, i did bought some life food and he did eat it. This is the one i got:

If you are looking for a RSM skimmer cup, here is one from last year. Great price, great seller. This cup is a collectors item that any RSM owner would be happy to own.

JUNE PHOTO UPDATE

I WANT OUT

STILL TRYING:

Tigahboy
Great updated photos. (this thread is a monster tho!)
Alicia
Wow! Awesome photos Stevie...definitely gave my morning a nice start. Congrats on maintaining such a perfect tank-if I had a tank like that at work...I'd never get anything else done, haha!

I'll have to look as this has probably been mentioned before...but how has your Coral Beauty been? I thought I heard somewhere they can nip? Just curious...I am sure you keep a close eye on everything.

Ok...gotta go to work...then home to my surprisesssss!!! wub.gif Have a good day!
StevieT
Thanks guys.

A coral beauty can be a risk but my fish doesn't nip at any corals. Just algae when I turn off the koralia. I actually need to take the cover off so he can do some cleaning. He has never done any damage to corals and yes I did watch him close after I purchased. He has been in there for 1.5 years or so. Adds a lot of color to the tank. I do feel they need a little swimming room but they are kind of shy and he hids out in the back sometimes. I like the size of the fish.
Alicia
HAI STEVIEEE!!!! Guess what I got todayyy??? happydance.gif I just got everything in my tank and it's up and running again! I love it all! Haha...thank you SOOO much for the extras and the surprises! I am so glad I finally got this stuff...I really shouldn't have waited so long. Anyone with an RSM should just get it from the beginning...haha, don't mess around with the stock junk! I took pictures and will post them when I update my thread sometime soon. THANK YOU!!! Oh yeah...and how professional with your packaging...I was impressed!!!

BTW, your Coral Beauty looks like a great fish. I thought about an angel at one point...was leaning towards a lemonpeel and then chickened out because of the possibility of nipping. I am glad you got a good one! biggrin.gif
coralcor
looking good..... well the tank is.... tongue.gif

Hi Stevie! The tank is looking awesome. Congrats on the successful move.
You might have answered to this before, but did you actually keep any of the sandbed, or did you get new sand (or perhaps a mix...?)

Hey Luis, thank you.

No, I started with all new sand. It was by far the safest thing to do. Using the old sand probably would have crashed the tank. I did pick through it for snails, bugs, worms, and other goodies. They were saved in the move.

I just remembered the smell of that old sand. :puke:

Thank you. Sure is. I am pretty sure they call it a pink staghorn. Pretty dark red in real life if we are on the same page. I don't keep track of all the names since I can't spell half of them laugh.gif
StevieT
uh oh. Just spent money on the tank wink.gif

Great, when you get that MP you are going to brag about how great it is and every RSM owner will have to spend $$ on one too.

quick Q. Is that a Maxi-Jet 1200 that you are using for the ATO? How do you like it.

I'm setting up a JBJ ATO and need a pump. I think I'm going to super-glue the float switch to my Tunze skimmer. This will allow me to raise/lower the desired level with great ease.
StevieT
haha, they should send it to me for discount or free since I can push them on all other RSM idiots like myself.

Yes the MJ1200 is for the ATO. Does a great job, pumps in the water fast, never fails.

I would look into attaching it to a magfloat like I did or other magnet. If you put it on the Tunze when you adjust you will be changing the level of the Tunze too. Which may not be at the same level you want your float at. Because water levels change with filter floss, types of media it may be different. Just thinking here, it still may work on the Tunze.

I adjust my ato float frequent enough, I never touch the Tunze
StevieT
omgomgomg.gif new corals purchased. Giving Mr. Coral one more chance to redeem himself.
ddelallata
I see what you mean, but I'm gluing it to the Tunze so that it activates/deactivates at the optimum water level on the skimmer. I don't have anything in chamber one, so the water levels in the other chambers are always constant (minus evaporation). I got tired of changing the floss every other day, so I have a huge canister filter in the cabinet that gets maintenance every month.
The canister filter has a coarse filter, three layers of floss, RowaPhos, ChemiPure Elite, Purigen and SeaChem Matrix(keeps Nitrates at 0 smile.gif )

I will be adding chaeto to chamber one and have already fabbed-up a makeshift bracket for a lamp to light up the chaeto in there.

Thanks again and happy reefing.

My RSM EXPLODED!!!!!!

Almost a year to the date and at 3am my RSM cracked from the frontside top completely around the bowed corner clear to the bottom of the tank!

Luckily I dozed off last night in the den where the tank is at because I was able to save some of the water and most of my corals which was packed from the top to the bottom!

I have been reefing for almost 18 years and never had this happen....WTF????? Maybe it was my snoring that blew it!!!!!

Hardwood floors soaked, basement below soaked, $3,000 area rug soaked, antique chair soaked, back blown, wife pissed, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

I a waiting to here back from the store where I bought it seeing that they even said this has to be a complete defect.

Just waiting to here back from them before I call the insurance company. I love how the RSM warranty doesn't cover glass????? My insurance company will go after them and win!

Went from and 80 gallon water tight clarity plus system to the RSM all for the fact of being able to quickly recover if something happened....I didn't expect it to be a total blow out!!!!

I will see how this plays out and will probably just downsize to a 12 gallon JBJ nanocube so I have a little piece of the ocean in my home to relax me!

Very, very tired right now!

Robert

StevieT
Oh wow Robert I am so sorry to hear this. Another member here had a RSM crack this week as well. If I remember correctly a year ago there was something similar where two cracked at similar times, weird.

That sucks really bad, good thing for insurance. Keep me filled in what Red Sea says.
StevieT
Vortech came in today. It didn't work at first. Took it apart, found a piece of plastic jammed in the impeller shaft. Took it out, works great.

Tuning it in, pictures to come later

Last time I purchased from him it was November/December of 2007. I didn't receive shipment until March of 2008............. The coral I purchased wasn't looking good so they did the right thing and said they would ship in two weeks when another was ready. Two weeks turned into 4-5 months! They ignored emails or just said to call them. Finally after keeping on them they shipped out, the coral is still alive and doing well, it is my clam.

Alicia
OMG Robert...I am SO sorry to hear that. Something like that is like my worst nightmare right now...especially since we live in an apartment (middle floor)...downstairs would not be too happy! Yikes! scarry01.gif I really hope you get things worked out.

Does anyone have any ideas on why this might happen once in a while to RSMs? What has Red Sea had to say about it? That is seriously some scary sh!t...

Anyway, tank looks pristine Stevie...and I am loving the new PH... Thanks for posting some nice pics! happy.gif

Sorry to hear about the tank Robert.

Sounds like our friend Pinky is busy lately huh Mr. T ??
Alicia
^ Pffftttt...haha....yep! rolleyes.gif
StevieT
This is scary and hopefully no frequent. I always wonder how many more tanks, any brand fail and we never hear since the owner isn't on forums.

Pinky is a trained professional in these situations. If she can handle a simple thing like a skimmer not fitting/functioning in a short amount of time I have no doubt she can handle a tank explosion.

I didn't at first! Thing was all jacked up but Iz gots skills. Yeah it's pretty cool. I only had limited time today between calls to play with it and watch it but money well spent. It picked up so much junk and sent it into my media rack for collection. WAAAY better than a koralia.
