Do you have the fan that blows on the water? Or the one in the light fixture? I was thinking about the light fixture mod, drawing the warm air out of the fixture itself. I don't really have anyroom for a fan to blow on the back chambers. Evap is not a problem now, the Tunze works freakin awesome.
scottyreef
i have mine hanging above my tank blowing over the water and a little bit across the uv glass of the bulb but you dont need a very lage fan to cool the mine ony about 3". which CAD model do you have? the problem with the fan mod in the fixure is it doent take as much radiant heat from the aquaium unlike blowing over the surface or straight down one of the chambers
VDub90
I have the 22G with 3G refugium off the back. The fixture itself gives off a ton of heat, so I figured throwing in 2 40mm fans in the side would pull enough air through the fixture to keep it cooler and not have so much heat radiate off of it to the tank. The fixture that goes over the refugium is the same width as the main fixture so it doens't allow much room to put anything under it. The heater, ATO, and PH probe just clear it. I would like to keep the setup itself as clean as possible without any extra additions. The fans in the fixture would be unoticeable as well as a chiller in the cabinet would not be seen.

+1

You could try the fan idea first to see how it goes b4 investing in a chiller. I've planned to relocated my tank due to the heat.

Btw, VDUB90, you got pictures? I'd like to see the back hehe.
VDub90
Depends on what view you want. The only pics I have of the back are from the front with the rear light tilted up. I can post them when I get home from work.

I was hoping someone who's done the fan in the fixture mod would chime in. I hate spending and doing more work than needs be, so if the mod doesn't work I'd rather save the $20 bucks and few hours time and put that in for the chiller.

Hey guys! Anyone have any tips for getting the stock pump out of the back chamber? My tank is about a year old, and I'd really like to upgrade the pump but I can not seem to get that pump out of there.....it is really wedged in. I'm scared that even if I do get it out, I won't be able to get a new one in. huh.gif
VDub90
Your pump is that tight a fit? I guess after a year all the parts could bond together really well. Not sure what to say other than be careful with forcing it too much. Is it screwed on? On my tank it's just a press fit thing.
scottyreef
I got mine out by taking off the the back bulkhead nut then unsrewed the 90 from the bulkhead then lifted out the pump
Kellie in CA
Hmmmm.......these are the times when I wish I had a man around the house. LOL.

I'll give it a try. It's been a tight fit since day one, now that there is coraline and stuff back there it is even more stuck though! I have an whole new set of parts with a bigger pump, loc line, fittings, etc... from the first tank I received (it was smashed to bits and a new one had to be sent out). Apparently after they sent the first tank out they switched to a smaller model pump and that's what I got with the replacement tank. I'd like to get the bigger pump in there if I can...I think it's a difference of like 200 gph.

hi everyone,
I just purchased a signature series 39 gallon yesterday. Hopefully it will get here by next week. Any insight is always appreciated!
scottyreef
Ahh you'll get it if i was back in CA i would help you out. I you have a pair of channell lock pliers they would come in handy just dont crank on it too hard. The fitting should only be hand tight and once you get the bulkhead nut off just push the bulk head out a bit and grab it then unscrew the barbed fitting. I put a ViaAqua VA2600 (740 gph) when i replaced my pump and it works great

Cheers

I've got the 39 signature. I'm curious to hear how folks with this unit handle the light. I've got the halide setup for it. It's quite heavy. It sits on top of these plastic clips.

When I actually need to reach my hand in the tank, I have to move the light off the tank. I've found this to be a bit difficult. That it's heavy sucks, but is understandable. What I'm finding less understandable is the plastic clips the thing sits on. The clips slide around in these little tracks. When I go to put the light back on, they've usually moved around and now the light no longer fits the tank and I struggle to not drop the thing in the water.

I've tried sticking a number of things inside the tracks, but the UV usually gets to them and they fall off. What have you all done about this. I'm thinking about trying epoxy next, but it seems extreme.

Thanks!
VDub90
I remove my light when doing anything in the tank. It's the older MH fixture and doesn't weigh much, maybe 5lbs. I know what you mean though the clips have slid in a few times and makes it a pain to get back on. Your epoxy idea is good, even silicone might work. Just a small dab in the track on either side of the clip. I would be inclined to only use something you can remove, epoxy might be a bit hard to get off if you didn't put it in the right spot.

Are there any other people to contact besdies eddie.

Can't seem to get a hold of him

Guys, Eddie just said my equipment is coming in really soon.
Tank in about 2 weeks.

I should have my tank and my cherry stand in about 5 days so I cant wait for that. Would anyone have any idea about the Digital Aquatics ReefKeeper 2 Controller? Is this a good buy? Also I was thinking of getting a auto top off system can anyone help me on these. I got a pacific coast mini chiller which cools up to 50 gallons.

Thanks!

I have the same unit and yes the heavy light fixture is a real pain. Too bad the legs are not another 2" taller, thne I could do more work in the tank without removing the lights. The light fixture is ~20lbs. I hope to hang the fixture from the ceiling this fall and use a "light lifter" that allows you to move the lights up and down, similar to venetian blinds.

I would not use epoxy to hold the legs, that will be quite permanent. Try some caulking, it can always be removed.
WindCloudWRX
Is there anyone else to talk to besides Eddie? My e-mails don't get the replies.
WindCloudWRX
I got my tank today and wanna ask where the WATER LEVEL is for the back chambers. Anybody can chime? Does it go all the way up to the tank's level or is it cut down?

Perhaps pictures.

This is urgent, the SKIMMER from CAD LIGHT does not even FIT In the back.

Hello,

I'm in the process of cycling my new Cadlights 39G aquarium. What is the best light cycle to use for this tank for a future reef tank?

There are the T5, MH, and LED.....

I just don't know what to turn on and when.

Thanks for the help!

Just think aout the environment you are trying to replicate. Natural reefs are close to the equator so the natural daylight period is ~12 hours. So your actinics might be set for a 12 hour period. But the sun is not directly overhead for those 12 hours. So you might want your hallides on for 8-10 hours per day.

Then the LED, which is supposed to mimic moonlight, will come on after the actinics and hallides turn off. Some people seem to leave them on for 12 hours but in real life you do not have a full moon and cloudless sky for 365 days a year.

Can u take pictuers of back of ur tank? Does the overflow splash as it goes into back chamber?
Where's water level of back chambers?
VDub90
Basically the more water you put in the tank only really affects the back area water height. The overflow slots allow more gph flow than the return pump flows. So the front display really only stays at one height (this is not 100% true the display level does go up and down alittle but it's no where near as much as it will go up in the back).

If your worried about noise, just raise the water level. pour some more in. the difference on my tank is about an inch front to back, and the overflow is silent.

That clears it up a lot bro. Thanks.
I'm so EXCITED to pour water in, but then I am reluctant because I am afraid of needing to mod.

I have a mag 7 there. Did you find any trouble w/ fitment of the return/ I had to trim the hose as the tension positioned the pump awkwardly.
VDub90
I'm only running the stock 400GPH pump. The mag 7 is 700gph? Honestly taking water out of the tank is super easy. Just add more water slowly, if you start to run into problems stop and take some out.
WindCloudWRX
Yeah 700. I meant the return pump. I had to fiddle a lot with it to get it to fit. Seems like taking out I'd have to mess with the bulkhead and what not. I know im gonna get head loss big time as the clear tube doesn't clamp tight enough.
VDub90
I haven't messed with the return pump, I'm trying to do as little to no mods as possible on this tank. Changing the return pump is how I broke my Finnex tank, lol
WindCloudWRX
LOL but dont uhave to take it out for clearning? thats whats irking me HAHHA.

You can always order it from Ken @ www.oceanreeflections.com. That's where I got my 39g Sig from.

I live in Canada and am planning to order the CADLIGHTS 22 gallon with full size refugium and 4 x 24w T5 H.O.

Their website has been down all day, I'm surprised and shocked they haven't had it fixed yet.

I'm very, very worried about shipping.

Any other Canadians import this tank?

Well it is a Sunday, their IT guy could be lounging watching the football game.

I placed an order for the Cad39G signature and stand back in Feburary 2008.

You can follow my tank journal here: http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=39808

I am going to try to post some more photos later today.

I wouldn't expect most businesses to respond to things outside of a business workday which is usually Mon - Fri.... Just sayin'! Just like you and I, they too are allowed days off and to relax and soak in a game or two.
oh my fraggin gosh!
I was there with Eddie on Friday night and he gave me a nice little tour aroudn the place and talked up the usual reefer talk. Didn't hear about any potential giong downs... They dont' have a specific IT guy there either lol..

Eddie is superman. Just give them a call I'm sure they'll pick up.

edit: Oops introducing myself, I left with my first cadlight 22g T5HO set up. Pretty slick! Pics/threads soon!
oh my fraggin gosh!
Hmm.. I don't know but I am pretty Loyal to Cadlight after my visit with them. They pretty much sell themselves. They don't need any marketing or mass effort in getting out there. Of course there are a few let downs here and there but every one has their kinks.

Their hours of operations are from Monday - Fridays. I didn't follow the thread regarding the issue but if you treid contacting them on Sunday, they probably won't respond till Monday. Best bet again is to call them.
Phixion
Definitely other options like Finnex, I do agree. smile.gif

But their website being down may not be their fault. Could be their hosting company in which they would have no control over. Gotta look at all aspects of it before pointing fingers, just speaking from the IT technical standpoint of it...
oh my fraggin gosh!
I can PM you their phone number if you'd like.

In regards to their problems, I haven't really read up on much. I BELIEVE the tanks are hand made so in reality, they're not ALL literally alike. In regards tos hipping issues, you can take that up with UPS or FEDEX. FYI UPS in the USA is like the crappiest method as they are really reckless ewith their packages.

Just my .02
Phixion
Shipping is half the shipper, but also half the packer as well. If it's not well packed, even the gentlist shipping can break things. But I haven't heard of USED items being shipped. Broken yes (due to shipping) as well as a couple broken tanks here and there. But that happens or has happened with ALL tanks that are shipped. Not just CAD. Finnex has had their share of shipping issues, and so has JBJ, Current-USA and Red-Sea...
oh my fraggin gosh!
Were you planning on financing a Cadlight tank through the bank?

Edit: OOh nvm, you're in cananda! lol

t5 actinics 20 -30 mins before the MH comes on and 20 to 30 mins after it goes off
moonligts 30- 60 minutes after the t5s come on for dusk t5s should go off when moonlights come on and moonlights should go out when t5s come on for dawn and your daylight should be about 12hours
so it would look like this

0700 T5s come on moonlights go off
0730 MH comes on
at this point you can leave the t5s on or have them go out
1830 MH goes off t5s still on or come on
1900 t5s go off moonlights come on till 0700 the next day

I can't remember where I'd read someone had received a used part but I can certainly dig it up.

Curious, why did you choose a Finnex over a Cadlights?

After much comparison, we may get a Calight after all. (Eating crow, yummy!)

I'd have a lot more on the plate to look at if I were to do it again right now, but back when I got my tank 2+ years ago, the only CAD option available that could even compare was the 25g model they had with 6x24w T5 lighting. They didn't offer a MH option, and they hadn't created the Pro or Signature series yet. The Finnex at the time was the clear winner having a larger tank size, higher powered pump, a skimmer and a built-in fuge with fuge light. The CAD lacked the fuge, and only had a center overflow area much like the current Pro model with a return pump behind it (it wasn't sumped). It's only advantage was the curved front and the better T5 lighting (better meaning more powerful). I bought one of the last tanks they made before stopping production in 2006 (mostly due to the shipping issues and broken tanks from shipping they had) and redesigning the back chamber area. My tank came delivered in flawless mint condition. Trust me when I say packing these tanks is KEY considering mine was ordered and delivered mid december which is quite literally the WORST time of year for shipping anything, especially if fragile. Later on that year CAD stepped up it's game with the 34g Sig series and then even more this year with the 39g Sig and Pro models.

*sigh* Yeah, Although the aquarium only costs $369.99, it's going to cost us a total of $600 after taxes, duties and brokerage fees. If the economy tanks (no pun intended), we'll be thankful for the extra $600.00 in our credit union account, which won't be affected by the stock market crash.

Also, if there were anything wrong with the tank and we had to have extra parts shipped, we'd still have to pay brokerage fees whether the item was free or not.

COOL! i have family up in Ottawa. i lived there for 4 years. I love Canada. but i gotta admit that its better working here in NYC though.

my family sometimes have things they order shipped to me and then they come pick it up and drive back. they save on taxes and shipping. if you have family or friends close to the border, you can pick it up there and drive back.

Phixion
Dumb question McLovin', but is our crappy economy really affecting a lot there in Canada? sad.gif

In any event, hang in there and keep your eyes on the prize, that being the CAD tank. smile.gif It'll be well worth the wait in the end.
VDub90
the first Cad tank I received almost 3 years ago was totally the shippers fault, the box looked like it had been dropped on all corners, they were torn and crushed pretty good, The tank itself was in a plywood box with lot's of foam.

Honestly though it's been almost 3 years to get this tank going, having to deal with UPS and all that, but now that it's going I'm glad I waited, the tank is really nice and looks fantastic.

Hey fellow CAD owners!

i just got mine yesterday and am very excited to set it up. the tank is very sharp and everything i have expected from how well everyone has said about them.

so far i dont have much questions, but i am sure i will have some later. i checked everything out and they work.

Hey all,

Just joined, as I am looking at the 22g CAD with HO T5's. Looks like this is the place to go to find out info on this system. It is surprisingly hard to find a reasonable "all in one" system for a decent price. Hopefully I can finish my research up and hit the buy button soon smile.gif.

I just got one at the beginning of the week. it is pretty good. i will need to change the pump as it does vibrate a little. I got it from Ken at Ocean Reeflections. he was awesome. he talked back and forth with all the questions i had all weekend long. I would suggest droping him a line.
