So I've recently seeing lots of 40Br's. So far they all looks amazing. I think this tanks have incredible dimensions for sick aqua escapes and lots of space for a variety of corals. I think Its time to everybody show off their tanks! So lets start this thing.
So mine is not finished yet but soon will be up and running. This is what I got so far. I'm thinking to go T5 in this one. Not sure what fixture yet. I'm in love with TEK but they are expensive. I saw the Nova Extreme T5HO in a friend's tank and looks cool. I know they don't have individual reflectors but i think they should do the work. I'm not planing on keeping SPS I think that light should work for some LPS, zoas, mushrooms etc. Ok, here it is.

this is how i planned the tank. Still need to stain the stand with Ebony (black) stain

This is how I access the sump. The whole front panel is the door

Thanks! The front panel holds to the stand by these adjustable tension ball catchers. They're stainless steel and bronze coated.

I found them at my local hardware store but i'm pretty sure you can find it at any HD Lowes or any marine or boat accesories store. I think they're used for the boat's cabinets.
Glen, your tank is amazing! I love your SPS frags. I hope to start with some fancy colored sticks of those very soon in mine

as soon as I get my girlfriend's camera, I'll take some pics of my set-up...
-40Br
-Custom stand and canopy: 46"T
-oversized refugium: 32"L x 16"W x !6"T
-2 Koralia #1's for circulation
-Tunze ATO system
-Octpus 150 Protein Skimmer with Impeller Mesh Mod(thing kicks a$$ and its way oversized!)
-1/10HP JBJ Arctica Chiller
-2 part dosing pumps
... only thing left is to buy lights...
I'm thinking of going with the 1 x 250W MH with PC Actinic Supplementation... CoralLife Aqualight 36" fixture... guy at my LFS will sell it to me for $550 new so thats a pretty good deal.

Looking Good Envy ! Are you using two Koralia # 2's ? I was using one #2 and one #3 , but the #3 was a bit much . I now use a #2 and a #1 .

Sep 13 2007, 07:28 PM
Yes I have 2 Koralia #2's, 2 MJ900. one MJ1200 with skimmer and AC500..flow city haha..I just fought a month with Dinos (I knew it wasn't a lack of flow)..that sucked. It was my top off water..and some LR rubble that I had thrown in there that was bad I guess..ended up loosing some zoos (they closed up for a few weeks and the pods were going to town), but they are coming back strong..anyone that has had dinos will tell you how horrible that stuff is..it appears in the morning and disappears at night..it just really irked me, some people live with it in there tank all the time
I was thinking of 3's but thought that was a bit much haha..then I was gonna mod the maxijets..but I think I got enough flow..what size is your tank?
sammy113
Sep 13 2007, 07:33 PM
Hey Chris, I was thinking the impeller mesh mod for my skimmer too. Did it worked nice for you?

My latest is also a forty breeder , although mine will be FOWLR . I'm doing a soft cycle using fully cured live rock from my prop tub and a combo of new salt water with salt water from my other tanks . This is not the latest picture , but you get the idea .

It is going to be mostly a Butterfly Tank , somewhere in the 1-2 inch range , they will be transfered to a larger tank when they get bigger . A dwarf angel or juvenile flagfin angel wouldn't be out of the question though

Stay tuned for some updated aqua scaping photos .

Here is a question for people who have AGA 40BR's it is realy true that you can drill the bottom(It is not tempered glass anywhere in the tank, sides and bottom)?
sammy113
Sep 22 2007, 11:22 PM
Nice video sea slug. Butterflies look so cool!
40Br's are not tempered anywhere. You can drill the bottom or any side. Theres a few people here that has drilled bottoms and sides.

sssooooo... If I upgrade to the 50B(its only 3" taller!), does that disqualify me from this thread? Because technically I do own a 40B its just not set up yet and I'm already thinking of upgrading haha. I want about a 3.5" to 4" sandbed so I can keep a couple of jawfish and in the 40B that will cut away from my viewing area. The 50B is 3" taller and I think it would work out really nice.

Im waiting to buy a stand for my 40b. I cant wait to set it up. I already bought the 250w sunlight supply galaxy ballast with a lumenmax 2 refledctor (SE) with sunlight supply hanger kit. I need my stand. I might just go to petco.

Stoney , your killing me.....................your tank looks great and is coming along , speaking for myself , I did more of a soft cycle , which is why mine was up and running fairly quickly . I used fully cured live rock from my other three tanks and also temporarly plumed my 40 breeder into my prop tank along with live sand from my upstairs reef . So you see , I didn't exactly start from scratch like you are . When you have multiple tanks it tends to be a little faster getting things going . My 40 breeder is now tank #4 .

Chris you can stay in the 40Br thread. Some people say that 40b's actually are 45G so don't mind if you're 5 gallons over us

Stoney you've been planning yours for over a year but the wait is worth. Your tank is the cleanest 40 I've seen. I love the stand and the lamp. Plumbing is perfect and i'm really considering the net over the tank for jumpers. Nice work

The lighting on the 40 is as follows:
2 x 39w T5 10k
2 x 55w PC Actinic
I bought Bayslayer's 29g this week so I will be setting that up for the carpet this weekend with:
2 x 55w PC Actinic
1 x 175w MH 14k or 20k I haven't made my mind up yet.

Well that didn't take long , one of my friends who buys coral from me fell in love with the butterfly tank , he has two tanks that have been up for several years , a 90 gal. reef and a 125 FOWLR , when he looked at the butterfly's and saw how they all got along he had to have them . Being a long time friend of mine , I said no problem I'll just get new ones . I tried to tell him it was no big deal getting them to get along , but he just liked the way they all looked together , he even wanted my " Rod's Black Onyx Clown " But I told him no way the wife owns that fish and after having Clowny for 5+ years she would kill me . I'm happy to report all fish are doing well and even though they didn't get a chance to grow like I wanted , I will be starting over with the stocking , Clowny is looking pretty lonely these days . So now I'm off to the search .
