I'll post pics of them plus the NanoCube 6 of my waratah's. Last I counted, I had about 20 large ones (up to 2" wide) and some with green dotted lines on the red bodies and some with really light blue tiny dots on the red bodies and some with large blue dots around the rim of the tentacles. I need to get a good camera that shoots macro-any suggestions would be helpful.

Brian
I wish this was a group buy. These are all for me for the time being. Then once I hook up with Adinsxq, I'll try to slice and dice them and let some so.Cal people get some cheap. Just trying to help out my fellow reefers.

Brian

How bout a few to the eastern half - say Kentucky? wink.gif The only cool stuff we get out here is rics. sad.gif

1. Materials: Sharp blade (NEW), cutting surface (a cutting board is best), water bath (keeps the slime out of your tank), and THE VICTIM. Always wear proper protective gear! Gloves...goggles... etc.

Adin! where's your gloves?!
adinsxq
Jamie: I wouldn't recommend slicing an actinia anemone (waratah, beadlet, etc). Even if it were to work, it wouldn't be the most productive way to culture them. Once they get large enough they become a baby-spitting-factory and slicing them have the effect of keeping them small (again, this is assuming they are capable of surviving a slice). I have considered it however; about 3 or 4 months ago I made a radial cut in one of my larger ones. It wasn't a complete removal of two halves... more of just wanting to see what would happen. The individual filled in cut and is still alive today.

Joel: Always wear gloves! Do as I say, not as I do!

All you SoCal people with access to group buys ARE TEH SUXORS.

Kthx.

let the smash and sell begin!
adinsxq
Update: The mouths have reformed and the tentacles are sticky. I'll probably wait another week before I begin agressive feeding again. This species is extremely hardy. This fragging session experienced zero losses out of the 4 anemones split.
irishtexan
Adin, how many nems do you have now? Do you still have the anemones with the red and black faced anemones?

yeah... that guy is king of the tank-o-neglect.

update on the red in the photo illustrating 50/50 portioning of the base

the twins!!
bucknellreefer
Wow, those are amazing looking!
Ebn
Hey Adin, how'd you get the 'nems off the rocks?

Here's the one that I want to slash.
adinsxq
make the anemone "uncomfortable."

options:
1. direct a powerhead at the base
2. reposition the rock so that it's under low light

the nem will either start to walk or completely detach. once it's moving, you can easily peel it off with your thumbnail.

OR, chip it out.

great photo btw!

tex... need more info. get a shot of the body too
adinsxq
though completely in the wrong area, it looks a lot like:

Anthopleura kurogane

good luck with the search. please make a thread in the ID forum.

Thanks for the tips! Might have to figure something with a powerhead. The only return is done via a spraybar coming off a Mag 2.

It's already under rather low light at the moment. It's in my pico tank sitting in the shade for the past 2 months now. Can't chip it out either since it's embedded in a rock surrounded by orange bam bam zoas. mellow.gif It just looks well lighted in the pic since I moved it for the shot.
adinsxq
Ebn... how'd it go?

DAMN THOSE ARE HOT YOU BASTARD

Take Chill Pill.
joel sandoman
would this work on a GBTA?
Caesar777
WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT, BUT IT'S BEEN DONE
joel sandoman
why not? is there another way? or do you just have to sell it when it gets too big?
adinsxq
propping btas is messy business
joel sandoman
anybody got a link on how to do it sucessfully?
MDeth
Machete. Chop VERY hard and try to get a clean cut tongue.gif
Caesar777
Don't gut it. SHARP, brand-new razor...Or, like mentioned above, a friggin' machete.
MDeth
I honestly would not try it. Just buy another one (and sell yours if its too big)

Not worth killing a creature that lives almost infinite :/
Caesar777
Really. And bubbles split so g.d. often that you may as well just wait for it to do it on its own.
joel sandoman
LOL. ok I'll take the advice. I was nervous about trying it anyway

Hijack alert--MDeth, do you know of any interesting longevity records?
adinsxq
I've been keeping my eye on this hitcher for awhile. Though it was microscopic, I could see a hint of red at the mouth. It's 10x its original size now and I believe it to be S. tapetum! Because of its size, I'm hoping it's the product of spawning (new morph).

I'm considering changing the topic of this thread to "ANEMONES." What do you think?

adinsxq
I've changed the topic title... please discuss all anemone propagation methods in this thread! smile.gif
Cesar
ohmy.gif OMG. I can't believe I had missed this thread. Adin, you're bad man. Awesome!
Caesar777
ADIN THAT'S SO CUTE

GIMME

Hey man nice work, I was wondering if this could be done to a condylactis Anemone and if it would be smart to do so. And if someone could hepl me with info on loading my pics where I comment that would be sweet.
Caesar777
Why would you want MORE condys? :x

Aquaculture? flower.gif
Caesar777
LOL why not "aquaculture" Aiptasia while you're at it? I realize that some people like Condylactis, but....ewww. They have no place in probably 99% of reef tanks.
irishtexan
lol. I think its just to see if it possible and how well you can prop. and so on.

Hey everyone check out my anemone prop. tank!!

True. But, a species tank with symbiotic crustacean could be sexy. I happen to like condys.
adinsxq
tex post a step by step in this thread.... the more species we can document the better
irishtexan
Ok I'll take some pics the next time I slice. Which will most likely be tomorrow. biggrin.gif lol. Its addicting. Too bad I have so many that I can slice. tongue.gif

Adin-I had some questions for you in my prop. thread. They are on page 2 if you have a chance.
Caesar777
Condylactis are horrible, horrible creatures. LOL! I like when they eat people's clownfish.

laugh.gif That is a risk with our unnatural pairings. Condys are the bomb smile.gif

Nice thread!!

I need to find someone in the midwest that has some of these to sellf.
clifford513
I <3 nems smile.gif
gulfsurfer101
I have three marine tanks with different things in them and 1 FW and A 1gal for mini puffers. Just about one for every room of the house and bathrooms. My condy and clarkii have been kickin it since the third day I placed the clown in the 10G. I just wanted to know if it could be done without killing the little #$@%er. He was originaly going in my 50G but my stars&stripes puffer was looking at him funny. I had to set up his own little tank and that's what got me started on this whole nano reef hobby.

So I was getting ready to slice the 2'' mini carpet yesterday - had brand spankin' new, shiney razor blades and everything. Went to ice down the nem's foot, and notice that the big one is gone and two smaller ones are in its place, and slightly odd shaped. huh.gif

So apparently, it was tired of waiting for me to slice 'n dice, and did its own thing. smile.gif Kinda sad...new razor blade, and now no 'nems to cut up sad.gif

The left one has rotated a bit since splitting, so the splitting line for it is on the lower left.

Darn--I thought you were gonna show us the new razor blade...

biggrin.gif J/k!

Those are really nice! Congrats!
