I'm not exactly sure. It doesn''t have a distinct outer skirt of tentacles like every other S. tapetum I have. Its tentacle arrangement is similar to a mini-mini (not growing as close to the mouth. Here's a red...ish S. tapetum for comparison:

weird - doesn't look like any of the larger species either.
Anyhoo - time for a borneman anemone update:
Natural fission by pedal laceration!!! The top and most of the "stalk" just twists off, and the nub of a foot left behind grows into a new, albeit somewhat bleached, anemone with pinkish tips.
Pic of one in my fuge now, poor lighting, but the tips are quite a nice pinkish hue in person:

For scale, this one is slightly larger than a quarter diameter from tip to tip.

FORCED pedal laceration works with mini carpets btw...
if you scrape one off the rock and leave enough behind, you may sprout a baby after a few weeks.

EVER SEEN ONE MINI SPLIT INTO FOUR?!?!?
Thought it was maxi it was so big. Had it in the sump since Saturday, waiting for it to move so I could put it in a tupperware with the others. Looked in tonight and there are FOUR splits!
Sorry for the crappy quality - it's the sump so you'll see filtration equipment, and poor quality because the camera was dying and I didn't have time for setting things:

i did that too for a wild mini... but mine was a rock of indo lords $$

unfortunately, it looks like the "original" minis too
my propagation is going slower than my distribution... for most morphs i'm back down to one individual!!!

I paid less for the rock with the mini on it than I have for minis by themselves. The guy was whining about getting his hand stuck on the mini all the time, and wanted it gone

Yeah...it is the original. I was hoping it was a maxi with the original coloration since it was so big.
My prop is going slow too...I need a bigger space to feed more and grow faster. But my distribution is down to 0 for a while (no one contacts me in that 24 hrs or so that I'd sell them one before the knife comes out again).

not me...
but a quick online search says it doesn't reproduce naturally via fission, so the dropping in skimmer water wouldn't work.
try it and post pics

I think that is the only way you can get them to artificially actually.
Seanfg89
Dec 16 2007, 02:26 PM
They are too exciting. Most of them are usually ugly browns or whites but if you know where to look you get beautiful neon greens and electric yellows with white stripes and white/black striped ones with teal centers. There are even orange and red ones many times on ebay (but I don't feel comfortable with ebay). Sure they're no mini carpet anemones but I don't think you should label them as not exciting until you keep a bunch of them (unless you have, then maybe they're just not your cup of tea).
Also, thanks for the info on propagating (how not to) them.
