Okay... hope this gets approval and works. Don't really know what I'm going to do yet.
Dim: 27x12x5 (LxWxH)
Vol: 7 gal
Will be using a standard AGA 10gal for sump.
Do you think I should brace the corners or add a top flange?

bracing would probably be a smart idea depending on how thick the acrylic is...

Nice tank!
I'd brace it too. 5" isn't too high, and 7 gal isn't too significant in pressure. But acrylic does have a tendancy to bow, after that, the seams weaken. I'd be too paranoid about loosing such a cool tank.
Good luck.

i vote for 1inch euro bracing.

I plan filling it up tonight and see if it bows bad. I'm sure it will a little but I don't know if I have the time to euro brace it. Thinking of maybe just adding corner braces (quick and easy). Still might bow, but it will keep the corner joints from coming apart.

Nice tank! What are you using for lighting? Is it going to be a frag tank?
Also, what are your stocking plans.

Still figuring out what lighting to use. I have a 130w PC unit or a 175W halide pendant. Um as far as livestock, I'm not sure yet. Maybe mainly lps and zoos. I'm trying to figure out how to aquascape it. Maybe for topdown view? Still up in the air. But first I have to make sure the tank can hold.

^^lol That is a nice tank!
I would just do the aquascaping normal, not for a top down view. It would better like that IMHO.

I don't know I think a top down view would be really neat, it's not something yhou see everyday and if you've ever looked at a clam from above you know you can get a completely different look. Besides with it being that shallow it may be tough to do otherwise and be as dramatic.

I seriously doubt it, but the 2nd pic looks exactly like one of the display tanks in my lfs. even has the same livestock and aquascape.

UPDATESDrilled 3 holes for 1/2" bulkheads (2 returns 1 drain).
Wanted to do something different for the back so I airbrshed a gradient.
Braced the corners.
Plumbed.
I was going to use a 10 aga, but then decided to just do a closed loop and a HOB. So I bought this shoe rack thing from Home Depot for $15, but there was no hardware to put it together. So I went back to HD, but the return dept. closes at 9PM (I got there at 9:10) so I just picked up another one.
Then I worked on the plumbing (sorry for the messy primer) but when I hooked up my Mag2, it decided to leak. So now the 10 AGA won't fit under the stand so I had to use another of my shallow frag tanks for a sump.
Now I'm just testing for flow and leaks. So far so good.
Lighting will come from a 175w 14K pendant. LR will come from an established tank and some that is curing in another tank.
Also have to figure out where to put it.

Da## nice setup I think a lagoon look would be nice wrap the LR around the out side and have it set for top down.
And when the contest is over turn it into a zoa frag tank.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I always wanted to do a tank like this and now I have a reason to do so. I just put in my LR and did a quick aquascape. Also picked up my 175W 14K bulb, so I have to build a quick rack or something to hang my light. Will post pics later today.
pheallox: Right now the aquascape is kind of what you have suggested, and these tanks were originally going to be used as frags tanks.
Now I need to find some livestock.

175w over 7 gallons!?
I like shallow, wide tanks though. I think basin area is what is important usually.

Fish is last on my list for stocking. Still debating if I should keep fish at all.
Yep 175, it was something I already had. Wanted a 70W but didn't want to spend the money on a new fixture. So far it hasen't heated the water, it's stable at 78. I'll see how the corals do when they get under it. Plus I can raise it if I need to. Had a extra PC fixture but it just didn't look as good.

wow, i really really really like the look of this tank so far! with the rock in, the sweet airbrushed background, and some sick lighting, i think that im in love!
Great work so far! Personally, I think I would try to add a small goby, just to give a little kick to the tank

Yeah, I'm a little screwed right now, cuz my camera (CPS SD 630) got jacked at the LA car show. But haven't really added anything new besides a few more zoos (1 of them yours EZ) Showing some growth. Have to buy a new camera.

Okay, here we go. Got a new camera (just picked up the same one since the wife got me a underwater case for it for xmas). Anyway, picked up a few new things.
New additions:1) The newest is the dendro.
2) Added the toadstool (Floorlord) from the Socal meet. It was open and then closed up for about a week. Finally showing signs of polyps coming back out.
3) Rics I already had and added them to the tank.
4) Added a Orange digi frag. so far it's doing well and showing signs of growth at the tips.
5) Put in a anthelia frag from ReefApprentice back when we had the Socal meet.
6) I finally got a fish, a Yellow Clown Goby.
Losses:My orange acan took out some zoos that I don't have backups for. I was going to move them but was too late. Also took out a purple shroom and 2 red shrooms w/purple or blue spots. So now the acan is in the far corner. I just hope it doesn't eat my clown goby. Also lost my orange zoos, they just decided to close up and melt away.
Growth and changes:Most of the zoos are growing new polyps now.
Some of the shrooms are walking and making new babies along the way.
Frogspawn has double in size and is getting really big.
Echino is growing well, starting to grow out onto the sand now.
Pretty much everything has settled in and is now growing.
My red zoos lost their color, but the new baby polyps are red. I hope the colors will come back.
Now the pics...Clown Goby chillin on the acan
