What is live rock cooking and how to do that?

Live rock cooking is a process that was confabulated by so-called and self proclaimed experts in reefkeeping and marine biology. It involves keeping your live rock in the dark in correct temp & salinity with good water movement for an extended period of time in the hopes that it will "rejuvinate" the microorganisms in the rock.

It is a waste of time and an absolutely useless process and has no scientific evidence or research behind it. All supposed "successes" are purely anectdotal and even those stories come from sources with questionable credentials (they ALL seem to have PhDs in marine sciences...yet they all refuse to provide evidence of education or a current list of thesis, articles published or other research projects...hmmm). And in just the last 2 weeks more than one of these "experts" has been exposed as lying about multiple doctorate degrees as well as place of employment.

Dont get involved with this sort of nonsense.

Plus, unless you have a barebottom reef (an oxymoron there) cooking your rock supposedly "doesnt work"

Is cooked LR same as cured LR ?

After cooking process , small animals in the rock die or survive ?

Thanks. B)

Curing live rock is simply letting it sit in your tank so that the bacteria and nitrate cycle can stablize prior to adding livestock.

Cooking live rock pretty much kills most of what is on your rock *supposedly* sparing the beneficial bacteria so that when it is added to your tank you have live rock that is supercharged with beneficial bacteria.

Dont do it. Waste of time.

You would be better off starting your tank with rocks you dig up in your backyard.

Thats all Im saying about this topic.
