Deputy_Pooh
So after a long debate on wether I shud sell my setup or keep it. I decided to keep my reef setup and do some upgrades to my system. I had a LFS employee build me a DIY dimmable led fixture using 70 Bridgelux LED's. 40 blues, 20 whites, and 10 greens on a 36" aluminum u-channel. Heres a link to my setup in action.. I also upgraded my sump to a 30 gallon tank I had laying around and installed a small fuge with chaeto. I basically removed my huge cap that took over the left side of my tank and established a sps garden on that side.I'm impressed with the pop of the LED's over my T5's. Enjoy and please comment with advice or ideas.. Link to comment
1reefluvr2
It looks like Corals Got A hair cut:( should Have left it alone to take over:) great looking tank tho. Im also a fan of Leds finaly. Link to comment
Deputy_Pooh
Oh yes.. my previous setup looked more mature I must admit. I removed all (well 99% of my green button polyps) they were a pain. They got over grown and I didnt like the look my tank had developed. Too much softies for my liking. After awhile, I started to get the "new tank bug" and that was a main reason for my disliking and less interest i had. But now, my love have been regenerated and I can watch the progress of my livestock bloom again.. Link to comment
jedimasterben
What are the green LEDs for? Link to comment
Deputy_Pooh
What are the green LEDs for? I was really unsure at first. I seen alot of manufactured fixtures apply red n green to their spectrum. The lfs guy told me to only use green blue n whites bc reds didn't do much color wise. The green LEDs make corals pop a lil more in my opinion. Mines are controllable, I can get a real nice look when I tune it with the blues. It just makes the corals colors pop more. Link to comment
jedimasterben
Frankly, I think that the LFS guy is full of something (I'll leave it to your imagination what that something is ). Green LEDs really don't enhance colors from what they are already - even Bridgelux cool whites, which are some of the worst for color rendition available to the hobby, have too much green as it is. The extra color you're seeing from them is simply the green hue they cast and really nothing more. People will swear up and down that they enhance red corals' appearance, but they're mistaking it with cyan. Link to comment
Giga
Lots of coral in that beast! Link to comment

I kept thinking they were pronounced scion but I wasn't sure thats why I only wrote them on my thread as being green led's. Didn't kno they were really a difference, bc I kept saying "green" throughout the led build and the lfs wud always mention cyan. I just figured they were another name for them. However they do give my corals a nice "pop" and it inhances my overall lighting.. Link to comment
