owdy
This is my first reef tank. I've bought this Fluval Edge ever since it first came out. I was using the tank for fresh water shrimps, but I decided to try a reef tank. Thanks to tazman71 for selling me the Nanocustoms light fixture. Equipments: Fluval edge 6g Nanocustoms LED light Stock filter (AC20) Hydor Koralia Nano 240 powerhead Deep Blue 60w Heat Stik mini heater Neptune Apex controller R2 Moonlight 6lb. to 7lb. live rock 1 inch and a half of CarribSea live sand Red Sea Coral Pro Salt R/O water Live Stock: 3 Cerith snails 3 Nerites snaila 3 Nassarius The heater is completely submerged inside the filter. The heater is only 4 inches long and diameter is the about the same size as a dime. FTS on 12/20/2011 Cycling began on 12/I8/2011 Also cut the intake part of the the filter shorter. I hate seeing it. 1/13/2012 Rescape the rocks. It is more practical and easier to manuever with my hand inside the tank now. everything is at 0 over the past weekend added 3 cerith, 3 nassarius, 3 nerites snails and a tiny frag of Xenia from my friend Link to comment

owdy
That heaters gotta be tiny... and its 60w dam It is really tiny. I was so surprised when I saw it at my LFS and it only cost 11 bucks. Nice! looks good. I generally dont like arch scapes but yours is executed smoothly Thanks. My original plan was a hill sloping down from left to right, but I saw that long live rock on the right side of my tank. It gave me an impluse to try the arch scape. Link to comment
owdy
Neptune Apex controller arrived couple days ago. Having problem trying to program the sunrise sunset effect. Bought some RJ45 plug to plug the wire that came from the light. The programing seems to be correct. Followed some of the examples online. Don't know what is wrong. Maybe i should purchase the wire from Neptune and give it another try. Link to comment

briansbelle
I too am interested in updates. I just picked up a fluval edge and am looking for inspiration for mine. I'm really interested in info on the heater. I have a 100w titanium heater in mine and its obnoxious! So I'm looking to get it out of the tank...lol! It says pre programmed but doesn't say what temp.... I will be using the mr11 led bulbs on my edge and keep my place about 71(winter) And around 70(summer) and wonder if this heater is enough for the edge.... Thanks! Link to comment
xenon
I use a Tetra HT10 heater because of how small it is for 50w but it sounds like you have a much better solution. Could you post the brand/model? Link to comment

owdy
The heater works pretty good. It was orginially preset from 77 to 80 degree, but I use my controller to program it to shut off whent it gets over 78 degree and turn on when it drops below 77 degree. Link to comment
briansbelle
Ok so would you use it if you didn't have a controller? I don't plan on any corals, just macros and an tailspot blenny. Link to comment

My friend was using Neptune. I find it very useful especially when you can control everything on your phone. I find my mind more at ease when I can monitor my tank when I'm not home. Other than the dimming effect issue I'm having right now, everything else is pretty easy to use and self explanatory Finally bought the dimming wire from neptune. Still can not program sunset/sunrise effect. Tried everything. Looked through all kind of websites. Followed many instructions and example. Dont know whats wrong. May email Neptune and ask them this weekend. Ok so would you use it if you didn't have a controller? I don't plan on any corals, just macros and an tailspot blenny. I wouldn't recommend using the heater without a controller. I put the heater in before my controller came, so I had no idea what the temperature inside my tank. When my controller came and plugged in it reads my temperature was 88 degrees. There is a 30w version. Maybe that would be in a better temperature range our tank. 60 w maybe too strong with out controller Link to comment
briansbelle
Ok thanks! I will look into the 30w version. Link to comment
