darthvictor
Water has been cleared. Do I need to add anything for the 1lb live rock to seed all the dry rocks? right now I just keep the powerhead and filter on, ~10 hrs of light each day. I can see the coralline algae on the LR is turning abit white, I guess they are dying off? or all just take waiting? If anyone can answer this to a noob? Link to comment
Criley7
You don't have to add anything to seed the dry rock. It will happen with the live rock you have just fine. And the coralline algae turning white would be it dying. Link to comment
darthvictor
Thanks Criley7, does the coralline algae suppose to be dying in the cycle to create ammonia? I guess I will just stare at the tank abit more then. Link to comment
darthvictor
A little update: 1 week passed... Dec 18, 2011 Algae is starting to grow on the live rock, but only a little bit grow on the dry rocks... Link to comment
darthvictor
Added Coco worm, mushrooms and ricordea from SUM boxing day sale Link to comment
darthvictor
Just found a worm in the live rock, good worm? or bad worm? Start to see some pods on the glass too Link to comment
castiel
Are you still only running your filter and powerhead 10 hours a day? They should be on 24/7. Your tank will get stagnant overnight with no flow, just keep them on all the time. Bad worm unfortunately, I think. Euchnid. darthvictor
Nono I keep the filter and powerhead on 24/7 with the powerhead on/off every 30 sec as wavemaker It is the lighting that is on for 10 hr cycle. Oh no... and I just found another worm... ok.. that rock is taking a perrier bath when I get home... Are you still only running your filter and powerhead 10 hours a day? They should be on 24/7. Zer0
Be careful not to touch worms like those. Most have bristles that will pack a serious sting and irritate your skin. Just a good rule of thumb when it comes to saltwater, don't ever touch anything you can't identify. It may not be the deep ocean, but there's still the potential for things to be hiding in your rock that could harm you. There are even some isopods that come in on live rock that will bite at not just your fish's flesh, but yours as well! Just be careful is what I'm trying to say.. it's still the ocean, even if it is in an aquarium. Nice tank btw! Link to comment
darthvictor
Thank you both, I will make sure I wear glove when handling the rocks. One more thing: as you can see I have some ricordea, I am wondering if I move the plugs near the rock, they will move onto the rock themselves, or I have to remove them from the plug then glue them on the rock? cmac23
Good luck with those worms, chances are you have more than 2 and they are in the dry rocks as well. This sucks. I am rebuilding my tank now with dry rock and I am scared to put a piece of live rock in it just because of this or green bubble alge, or aptaisa. Thinking of getting a piece of live rock, let it sit out for 10 mins so the worms hopefully leave out, then bust it up with a hammer and try to use small pieces to seed my dry rock Link to comment
zacheyp
did you add al that stuff before/ during the cycle?? Link to comment

You can just move the ricordea near the rocks, no need to pull them from the plugs. They will start to sprout babies, and since the rock is a better place for them to grow, as apposed to the sand, they will grab on to the rock and begin taking over. Link to comment

I am hoping they will do that on their own, I will leave them be at the moment then. did you add al that stuff before/ during the cycle?? NoNo, the tank is cycled. Worms come from the mushroom rock from SUM. Just done the bathing, worms all out and die (with several smaller and tiny worms that looks just like the big one... hopefully the mushrooms will be fine. Here is the Soda Euchnid Worm: Link to comment

Just want to learn about it There is another one under the bubble coral too. Thanks It's a tube worm, most likely a Chaetopteridae. I've got one hanging out in an empty shell as well. I've read that they are pretty much harmless unless they over populate and basically smother your sand bed. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-05/rs/index.php Link to comment
