Is it the water or just a film on the glass that can be wiped off ? What lights do you have? Also you dont really need to have the lights on at all for the cycle they just promote unwanted algae growth. I would kill the lights and let it run and see if it clears up, also some carbon would help. Good luck.

Stock lighting "2x 55w 50/50 10,000k & Actinic T5 Power compact lamps"

yes it is the water sadly that is clouding the tank :S should i do water change?

what would happen to the coraline algae if i turn off the lights, will it die?

I wouldn't worry about the coraline right now it may die off anyways since it did not start in the tank . If the conditions are right it will regrow. You can do a wc but iI would not recommend it,it just adds to the cycle time. Do you have a way to add some carbon ? If yes that the best answer. Did something get into the water that may be making it cloudy ? If theres a chance of contamination then all water should be replaced if not just carbon.

I cleaned the tank 3 times to make sure there arent any chemicals in the aquarium or any unwanted substances.

Yes there is a way to put carbon but i need to buy one, could it be the salt i have used... it didnt clear up quickly as expected?.

Not impossible, how does the water look today ? Just keep lights off and run carbon and all will be well.

If you cant live without lighting them some lunar lights would work. The blue led type.

Now i am waiting for my stupid skimmer to break in!

I have around 6kg L.R should i buy 4 Kg more or is that enough for the time being?

Thats great about the water clearing up. As far as the rock is concerned a bit more wouldn't hurt but the amount you have is a good start. How deep is the sand bed? It also is acting as your bio filter.

Sorry for the late reply...it is around 7 cm deep

Take a look at my pics Title: A few pics from my 20L.

Hello everyone,

It has been a week from now since I added my cured live rock and my L.S but it seems like my tank is not producing any signs of diatoms.

I have added some flakes but my readings r still the same.

My phosphate is around 0.05-0.06

My Amonia is almost 0

P.H 8

Should i start adding CUC or should i wait for another week?

I'm sure you have already, but if you haven't check out Stevie T's RSM thread. I'ts quite long but basically a step by step on how set up and mod a RSM.

I think I'm gonna get an RSM soon and mainly because of his thread.

Good luck cyber98 and keep us posted!

Go for it :) but get ready to buy some modifications for the aquarium since the skimmer is very noise and it produces microbubbles, the stock heater needs to be replaced since it over heat the aquarium and you are limited with two stock pumps since they were made to fit the back chamber, i have read somewhere you can replace them with pumps that can fit the back chamber but sadly they are unavailable here in UAE. Don't get me wrong I love my RSM but if i had the choice between RSM, Aquamedic, Solana, or JBJ i would go for Solana or Aquamedic.

Please note this is my personal opinion :) Goodluck and thank you for your input, i guess ill wait for another week and start stocking my tank with CUC, I have read steves article like 1 year ago and ill go through it again and imitate him with every single step he made.

Thanks again :)

Omar, thanks for the response! Since this will be my first sw/reef tank, I think I'm still gonna go with the RSM and Stevie's thread and do everything he did. I'm sure I'll screw up along the way, but maybe less than if I got another brand. I plan to do all the mods except the lights from the start.

If you want, give a shout to Stevie and have him place your thread in the RSM section. You might get more RSM specific advice in there.

Hpoe things go well for you.

So the diatom attack is over....thanks to my CUC which they are consist of 1 Tonga conch, 1 Nassarius Snail and 4 hermit crabs.

Should I start buying corals or just two clown fish and wait for another one week?

slowly add to the tank- keep an eye on your parameters- before buying some clowns- maybe, buy something much cheaper- just in case your not out of the woods... rather lose a much cheaper fish than some nicer clowns- and, modding becomes habit forming! StevieT thread is a good source of information- my tank is nothing like it was when I bought it new! and I continue to mod it....

Sorry dude i just couldnt resist :P !! but the good news they r tank bred :)

so far the tank is doing great, my cleaner up crew did a great job in fighting diatoms. I just love my hermit crabs they are not as spoiled as the electric hermit crabs I had in my old tank :).

I just have this problem...the skimmmer is extremely noisy..it produces alot of micro bubbles which is really annoying and it barely skims. I have been running it ever since i got my L.R "4 weeks ago as far as i remember" it is currently producing less micro bubble but it just aint worth it. I need to order Tunze, hopefully my LPS will be willing to order it for me.....if not then I'll just remove it and add cansister filter till i have the budget to set a sump.

  • 5 weeks later...

Hello everyone

Thankfully the tank is doing well I did a huge mistake and I have poured the LFS water in to my tank and now my protein skimmer is over flowing for some reason...lesson learned never add LFS water into my tank :S any how i got my self 2 new mini max, some corals, two clownfish and one cleaner shrimp.

For some reason the yellow mini max isnt opening as it was in my LFS...it has been like that for 2 days...it is twice as huge as the red one but hopefully it will open up within the next few days.

Your opinion and feedback will be appreciated

Regards

Omar
