SUCCESS!!

The glass shop trimmed my glass baffles! They fit perfectly inside the sump tank now with just a sliver of room for silicone in between the glass walls of the tank.

They applied some sort of alcohol liquid to the area, scored the line with a blade and then used a "pliers" like tool that easily snapped the excess glass off the baffle.

Tonight I will be installing the baffles for my custom sump.

Sump Baffle Installation

Newyorksteelo, a huge inspiration for my system's design always says in his youtube videos "For every problem, there is always a solution!".

The glass baffles were too long to fit straight in my sump. This was a big problem so I needed a solution rather than settling and installing them crooked... My girlfriend MilkMaid69 encouraged me to be patient and go back to request the glass shop's help. I was amazed with how easily they fixed my baffles. Best of all it was FREE!

Today's lesson is to not settle!!!

DON'T DO IT

Heres the pics!

And that's it for tonight. The work area is just too small and too risky. It is best to let them dry and continue the next day so that a slight nudge will not cause the baffles to fall.

More Sump Baffle Installation

Late last night I was able to finish installing the remaining baffles. I will be allowing another day for it to cure and then will perform a wet test.

Here are the pics of the sump.

  • The far left chamber is the intake and skimmer section, it then travels through a 3 baffle bubble trap.
  • The middle chamber will be used to grow Yo Yo Yo Chaeto along with a small powerhead to tumble it.
  • The last 2 baffles serve as a minor bubble trap to the return section on the right side of the sump.

I think my plans for the return plumbing are gonna work out tonight.

My Hydor Seltz L40 return pump has a 5/8" outlet and ill be using 1/2" pvc piping to connect to it.

Anyone have any experience boiling water and using it to widen the pvc so it will fit over a 5/8" outlet?

Gonna give it a shot tonight regardless

System Running

Spent all night with my buddai Drewski trying to get water in and get this thing running. We ended up firing it up around 9PM. Overnight the water cleared up and we could see the shimmer effect from the LEDS on the sand.

I am more than confident that 3 bulbs will be perfect for this tank.

Heres the shimmer effect blingin all gnar

I decided not to paint the pvc plumbing. The white matches the LEDs and fixture good and we like it!

The return flow shoots across the top of the tanks surface creating the agitation for some nice shimmer

So what do you fools think? :happydance:

More pics as I adjust and tweak things!

Thanks guys, I am loving it!

I had a few leak issues with the intake from bulkhead. Doing a lil plumber bill job on it right now. I'll shoot some more pics in a bit.

More plumbing and doors installed

I added a ball-valve to my return plumbing. No leaks and everything is running great!

The doors were a PITA to get on but after a bit of tweaking they went on. The girlfriend is gonna like the bling knobs. :bling:

Enjoy the pics and sorry for the blur

Here is a pic of a rock I glued together for my scape. Its made up of 4 pieces and I actually added 1 more piece on the top right of it after I took the pic. I'll get a shot of it in my tank, hoping it adds a bonsai style look to the reef.

Has a Half-Moon look to it when viewed straight on.

Some more pics of the rock and scape.

Will probably keep this layout and add smaller live rocks around the bases.

The rock on the left is "dry" with a small piece of rubble liverock at its base and the rock on the right is "live".

Any ideas on types of SPS for this scape?

Here are some more pics of the rocks I got so far. Still no signs of hitch-hikers... This weekend I plan on finding a few more pieces.

Dude, the form of that rock is wicked. I like it a lot.

oh yeah! everything kind of spirals up to the right. Kind of looks like a dragon or something. Hopefully some extra live rock will look good around it.
