rockhead01
I thought it time to properly introduce my new tank. It was previously a mantis’s tank who died during a molt. Instead of getting another mantis, I decided to set up a reef tank with fishes. (I have 3 tanks, but no fishes) This tank was established on 11/2/10 with year old live rock and ocean direct live sand. There was no cycle that I could see. Within days I had algae and diatoms which I then added the CUC. Over the last few weeks I’ve slowly been adding corals and live stock. supernip
what happens when it gets colonized by algae Link to comment
sandcruiser
then it looks like a crappy brown pipe for a while until (maybe) it turns into a fancy pink/purple pipe or, he has to clean it. A lot. the clear stuff looks awesome now, though. If you've got the energy to keep it clear, it'll look very cool. I like. what happens when it gets colonized by algae Link to comment
driftsaru
One could use Lowe's item #109345. Its about two feet long. Perfect to run the length of visible pipe. Link to comment

clownfish14
ahh ok thats what i thought it was most likley ya that would work just use that every week during your waterchange and you could keep them clean Link to comment
Captain Billy
That clear pipe will cause you problems with algae clogging especially since it's a drain. Link to comment
Deleted User 6
+1 - have fun keeping clear PVC from filling up with turf algae. you might want to consider spray painting it black. Link to comment
lohitha
Light + water + nutrients = algae. Link to comment
Giga
also if you move the rock work so it covers the drain it would look very ADA Link to comment
rockhead01
I bought the clear pvc pipe from aquatic eco systems and the bulkhead I purchased directly from Lifeguard aquatics. I agree that cleaning the algae is a chore, but I've had this same set up on my pico for 6 months and have kept up on most of the cleaning. I do have the spring pipe cleaners that do really well. I still like this look better than black or white, so I'll do the extra work. Here is pics of pico set up. PS - I do plan on putting rock in front of the pipe. Link to comment

blow
Do you have any pics or video of the long spine urchin? They are really interesting to watch. How long do you think you can keep him until he is too big for the tank? Link to comment
