Could I keep an onyx clown with a b/w occie in a 20H? they would be put in at the same time. The would live with few lps and sps, many zoas, few shrooms. and a YWG. would this be possible?

I've seen a lot of tanks with a similar combo, they'll probably spend the first week or two fighting but after that should be ok.

Amphiprion percula and Amphiprion ocellaris aren't compatible as female adults.

They will both be males. And I will add them at the same time.

They will change to females. biggrin.gif

Just get two Amphiprion percula or two Amphiprion ocellaris. One can be black and white.

But won't one of them change to a female? I don't think both change do they?

If they are both juvenile Amphiprion percula or both juvenile Amphiprion ocellaris, one will become a female and the other will become the male. If you have only one, it will become a female. So if you have one of each, both should become female.

Percula and Occellaris are two seperate species. If one of each is on its own, it will become the dominent and change to female. Both would be on its own in that situation and both would change. In 20g... they would prob. fight till ones dead once they've established territories or have gotten bigger.

Well than how do people breed them? Ive seen onyx and b/w hybrids. Also look what this guy said on another forum devoted directly to clownfish:

Sanjay Joshi is the man, I hope I get the pleasure of meeting him one day smile.gif

Also, a friend of mine has cross bred snowflake ocellaris with onyx percs, they'll do fine but like I said might spend the first few weeks arguing.

That is not unheard of. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. It doesn't happen every time nor does it happen very often. I'm pretty sure ORA has done it as well. They are still two seperate species, very closely related. It took Sanjay Joshi 17 years to see that in his article. There is only one way to find out if yours would pair and that is to try it. Are you trying to get a mated pair and raise fry? Or just like the combination?

You should join a couple more forums and ask their members and see what they say. Keep asking till you get the answer you want.

Seems to me like you're treading somewhat unfamiliar waters... At least for most people. Logic and science can predict one outcome, but yet others' experiences can predict another...

It is true that A. Percula and A. Ocellaris are different species, so I would expect the possibility that they will not pair up. Of course they are also quite similar, so there's also a chance that they will pair up.

What is your reasoning for wanting to combine these 2 particular fish?

Maybe try it, but just realize that there aren't any guarantees (as if there were any guarantees in this hobby anyways!).

I'm no expert and have never tried it. I was just speculating based on what I have read and experienced with pairs of the same species. A common Ocellaris and a Black and White Ocellaris should be fine together, and the pair would be similar to what you were wanting to do.

Sounds like you are still fairly new at this, so I'm not sure about breaking new ground at this point. Although I'm glad that you are researching the topic. With a little work, I'm sure that you'll know more about this subject than most of us. smile.gif

I've been researching fish for 4 years. I do not plan to keep babies if they lay eggs. I have been arguing with my self if I should get 2 blacks or 2 onyxs so I said why not get 1 of each. I will have to decide within 2 days. My LFS sales pairs of onyx's for $50 same with blacks. He said 1 of each would be $60, BUT, they are having a sale this weekend. Spend $50+ get $10 off AND I have a 20% off coupon and a $50 gift card I got for christmas. So it's either get a pair of Onyx for $30 or a pair of blacks for $30 or 1 of each for $40.
They only have a 24 hr garuntee so that sucks. I'm just srewed right now lol. I've gotten 5 yes' and 3 no's, and 2 maybes out of 3 different forums websites lol.
Got a yes here:
http://www.rareclownfish.com/forums/f8/could-i-3798/
Ugggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh sad.gif Confused on what I should get.
