Added live rock and substrate on 11/24/2009. Threw in a cocktail shrimp and left it in along with the live rock from 11/25/2009 - 11/29/2009. Filtration: 46lbs of live rock, 30 lbs of aragonite sand Test results from 12/03/2009: Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 10 pH: 8.2 SG: 1.0255 Temp: 78.7* I won't be stocking other than a CUC until after Christmas... Future stocking plans include a pair of Ocellaris Clowns, a Jawfish of some type and ???[ Here are a few shots: Just after live rock was added (26lbs): 11/24/2009 1 week later, with more live rock added: 12/01/2009 A close-up of the rockscape: The pvc that you see is my DIY jawfish home. I'm probably going to add more live rock, but I need to epoxy what I have together before I can build up higher Link to comment
kayl
Here are a few more pictures: 12/08/2009 A shot - Like I said, I've got some hair algae growing. Here's a shot from today - I cleaned the glass and added about 15 more pounds of live rock, bringing the total up to 40lbs. The water is still a bit cloudy from the landscaping and a water change. I also have my cleanup crew from reefcleaners.org. I added a turbo snail to hopefully keep down the algae. Anyways- Here are the test results from yesterday: Temp: 77.8* SG: 1.025 Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrites: 0ppm Nitrates: No test- the stopper on the test tube was bad and let solution fly all over as I shook it! pH: 8.0 Link to comment
spencers
At this point, the nitrate test is the most important! Make sure it's in check. Hopefully adding that live rock doesn't throw you into a cycle. Link to comment

Hopefully adding that live rock doesn't throw you into a cycle. Eh- it came from an established tank, I'm not too concerned. I'm not stocking until January anyways. I picked up another stopper from the science surplus store, so I'll be doing the full round of tests tonight again Thanks for looking! Link to comment
kayl
This weeks update: 12/19/2009 SG: 1.025 Temperature: 78.3* Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate: 0ppm pH: 7.9 (It looked to be in between the 7.8 and 8.0 colors. I'd like to get a pH probe, but don't want to spend the money right now ) Photos: FTS: Yes, I do have lots of microbubbles right now, but a lot of the spots are flatworms on the glass. I'm not sure why I've got so many microbubbles, the water level in the back is only like 1"-1.5" from the middle chamber down to the pump chambers. kayl
January update: 01/30/2010 SG: 1.0245 Temperature: 78.1* Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate: 0ppm pH: 8.2 Since my last update, I've added a few corals and 2 ocellaris clowns. The Xenia really took off, I dumped a bunch down the toilet last night so that it won't totally dominate the tank! The clowns are pretty shy - they stay back behind the rock most of the time that someone is near the tank. They're barely coming out to eat, I hope that they become more sociable as time goes by. They were CB, but for whatever reason, they're not comfortable yet. FTS: Zoas: Brain: I'll be adding more corals in the weeks to come! Link to comment

kayl
I see the jawfish liked his home! did that happen fast or did you have to help him find it and stuff? He moved in after the first night - I used my a glass feeder tube to "herd" him that way. He's since abandoned it and I took it out - I wanted the space for more corals! Link to comment

kayl
The BSJ was a really PITA at first, but he's mostly settled down. I only have to unbury frags every other week or so, versus the hourly when I first got him. I still think about getting rid of him every once in a while when he goes really crazy. I got him locally at a crazy price Link to comment
