i just re-aquascaped my entire tank and i kind of disturbed the sand bed a little accidently! there is stuff floating everywhere in the tank. luckily i took most of my less hardier corals and put them in a bucket with a light over them. so they shouldnt be harmed too much i hope? does anyone have any ideas on how/when to put them back in the tank? i did about a 30% w/c.. any advice on how not to completely crash my tank please?!

How deep is your sand bed and how old is the tank?

Run some floss in your filter for a day or two, watch your param's and "woooosah"

Edit: You may be doing your coral more harm than good in the bucket. Please post parameters ASAP smile.gif

Stirring up the surface of the sand bed shouldn't be a problem. This happens every time I vacuum. I agree that putting your corals in a bucket is not a great idea.

Hmmm. There is a definite concern you may have disturbed some anoxic pockets.

Leave everything where it is until you get your parameters. Pick up a basic test kit today if you can.

Even if your levels are "ok" I would do a 50-60% water change (If it were my tank I would do a 75-80%).

If it were a 1" sand bed I would agree, but with sand near the 3" mark there is a really high risk of toxins from anoxic pockets.

How old is the tank?

Do a big water change then put the coral back in. That is the safest bet and gets them out of the bucket quickly.

Do you have any sand sifters in your CUC?

Well that's good, that means there has been some stirring of the sand bed. Sweeet.

I think you will be out of the woods with the water change. Keep an eye on everything and be prepared to do a 10-20% water change daily if things are really crazy as far as your ammonia and other param's.

Get them out of the bucket as soon as possible, throw a bag of carbon in there with them as well as they have probably all gone to war with each other

After you aquascape and get everything in, kill the lights. Less stress that way.
