They're great for actinic supplementation and making colors pop, but they need to be raised high above the tank if you don't want a spotlight effect.
They put out enough light to make my corals open up, but I doubt even several would grow corals. I use (6) of the 460nm strips on my 50g. -------------------- |

I have two of these strips installed on my Red Sea Max hood, you can check it out on my tank thread. They are extremely bright and are great for actinic supplementation. The only problem with this product is, if installed to close to the water surface you will get a spot light affect in the water, also can be seen in my thread.
They do create a great flicker affect in the water. great product IMO... -------------------- |

thanks guys...so can i use these led only for my pico tank? would they support the growth of corals?
or they will just be a supplement light? how many would be enough for a 3g pico? because i see they can connect two of them together. and if i can use only these led for my pico, would it be better to get the 2 10000k+ 2 460nm rather than all 4 460nm? thanks guys. |

I have the exact same question! Would a 10k strip and an actinic strip be enough for a little 3g pico? They look like they would be the right size and would have two plugs so you could do a modified light cycle with them (i.e. long actinic cycyle and shorter cycle with both on). Any heat issues with these guys? Whats the best way to place them over the tank?

I dont know if these would be strong enough to support your tank, I guess it depends on what you plan on stocking the tank with. Regarding heat, these would have little to no impact on your tank. I have two of the actinic strips and they barely get worm after running for 10 hours. -------------------- |

Not sure what I want in my tank yet. What do you think would be ok with that set up? What about doing 2 10k strips and 1 actinic strip?

i looked at these a while ago for my pico tank, however most of the information I found from my research stated that they would not support coral growth and should primarily be used for supplementation and accent lighting. if you are looking to grow corals with LED's in a pico you can make a DIY fixture with a few Cree XR-E LED's. there are a lot of build threads online for it
