Im setting up a 15 gallon tank, emperor 350 filter, and koralia 2 powerhead.
I bought very fine white powder like sand from Petco and was wondering if it is a big deal whether I rinse the dust out (which will suck and waste sand im sure) or not? Im not to worried about the possible extra waiting time for water clarity. any advice is helpful, thanks |

you can rinse it if you want, or it will all clear out in the cycle.
If it's sand designed to go in a tank, you'll be fine. You'll just a little bit of "grime" if you don't. -------------------- |

I love the powderfine sand and it looks great. The tank above looks awesome. I hope he gets those bubbles out of the sand though...

Thanks, by the way nice tank it looks identical to my old 9 gallon acrylic that was made of 3/4" sheets. I even drilled holes in the overflow between the teeth as you did.. I can post up a few pics later |

My new tank is the bigger and empty one and the other is my old tank that reminds me of yours ![]() ![]() The bubbles in his sand bed are most likely just nitrogen gas being released. A sign that the bacteria in the sand are doing their job. Its a natural thing. They will pop out eventually (probably already have). Also, do some reading on bio-wheels in reef/salt water tanks. Your probably going to want to ditch them and run the filter without them. -------------------- |
