Diatome's 60 Gallon

Diatome

Recommended Posts

Finally, after all these years on the boards, a legitimate account of a tank.

I still have an NC 12 but upgraded from a 37 tall, that I started in early 2005, to this 60 gallon. I added Florida live rock to fill it out. Kept the 37 as a QT and it now sits in the garage and I use it to mix my salt. if I am not careful it will return to the living area. I will fight the urge.

The rock and some corals and all the fish are from Ocean Exotics in Gainesville FL. After a bumpy time they have new owners and I definitely trust their stock. Most of the corals are from Pacific East Aquaculture. The last two I purchased are from Liveaquaria. There are two Koralias (2 and 3) for water movement and Millenium 3000 HOB that is used as a fuge. 6 X 54 T5HO (Nova Extreme Pro). 1 actinic, 1 true actinic, 1 aquablue and 3 daylight bulbs.

The first three fish have been with me since Spring 2005. The scopas was tiny when I picked it up. It controls all the other fish and makes sure they are in specific hiding places if danger (me) is detected. Only the clown will emerge to try and bite me between the fingers.

Some rock work:

This was the original frag that grew into the paly's in the second photo. Still wish I could get more with two mouths.

Closeup of the frag holder, with a sea squirt for company. There is even one frag attached in the back not seen. I need a frag rack.

Still trying to figure out the colors on the war coral. Teal stayed but the darker colored areas are now purple with a pink center and the new growth is bright/fluorescent green.

Thanks. It's a Heartland tank I got on sale. LOL 48" X 25" H X 12.5 " . I upgraded from a 37 to this. It's actually pretty good for my needs and I really enjoy the tank. I like to stack the rock up high to create caves so the height is good for me. It really only gives me issues on the depth. I would like to create a rock channel lengthwise but that's not happening given it is 12" on the inside. The Tallest point on the corals and rock is 18 inches so a shallower aquarium just didn't suite me.

The tank has now been altered with just a few pieces of live rock.

The war coral is away from the sandbed now.

More room on the left now.

Plenty of arches, there are actually two behind the war coral. The top piece being the new home to my newer zoas and palys.

I love the setup! Quick question though, Are the T5s enough for the sps in that tank? I see you have the midlevel, is that working out well?

Well, here is the update. I have been slowly removing corals to leave only the ones I really want to let grow out. The big leather is gone and a new piece of live rock in its place, so I could move some SPS to the left side of the tank.

I know I'm reviving an old thread here, but........

Is this tank still running?

Are you still in Gainesville?

You've got some nice stuff I'd be interested in buying/trading frags.

PM me if you are still around.
