Lizzie1324
Welcome to my RSM thread! First off, NR is a great place with a ton of information. I did a lot of research before setting up the tank(my first saltwater adventure), then discovered this site! Even more information to soak in. So here goes..... current fts Tank Info: RSM about 1 year old stock lighting livesand about 35-40 lbs of live rock Inhabitants: Pink pseudochromis (Kronk) Bi-color blenny (Phineas) One ocellaris clown (Remus) Mandarin Dragonette (Clementine) Tiger Pistol shrimp (Doc. I got the tank and stand for 500 plus discounts on sand and rock, and other various supplies. I added Bio-spira, waited for my algae bloom before adding my clean-up crew. Since then just taking it slow, and having fun while I'm doing it Link to comment

Lizzie1324
Pictures! humble beginning... Kronk and Phineas Phineas Nymph and Remus Corals... Some of the pics are kinda blurry, and I don't have a current FTS ! So I will have to take one and post it later Link to comment
Lalani
Looks good! Can't wait to see the current FTS. Link to comment
StevieT
FTS !!!! haha a mod will have to move it if they see fit, I am sure it will get the move over time. No worries. Nice Blenny! Link to comment
Lizzie1324
Stevie T- Thanks for the info and complement You are the master of the RSM so anything you advise or comment on is greatly appreciated. Lalani- Thanks so much! I read your thread, your tank is amazing! And as demanded... FTS!!!! Edit: I forgot to mention I have one Emerald crab Link to comment
cfeist
Looks great so far. Your tank is going to look amazing once you have more corals all over your scape. I really like the color of that pseudochromis, do you have any problems with aggression towards the other fish? Nice job. Link to comment
Lizzie1324
cfeist-Thanks! I know I can't wait to add more corals Your tank is totally awesome! As for the pseudochromis, he is a little cranky, but not bad. He messed with my clowns and blenny the first day I put them in, but now they just stay out of each others way. If I could do it again I would have added him last, because right now I'm afraid to add anything to small like a YCG in fear of Kronk stressing him out to much. But he is a beautiful fish. Lizzie1324
Well at feeding time the other day I managed to snap a few shots of my reclusive Tiger Pistol Shrimp. And a funny shot of Kronk eating. And one quick question, anyone have a good method for cleaning off the algae along the sand line and the corners? These are the only places the mag-float isn't very effective on. Link to comment
smarsh
I found a tooth brush (new one of course) works great for the sandline and corners of my RSM. Tank looks great! Link to comment
Lizzie1324
Thanks smarsh. I've heard a razor blade works as well, but I'm afraid I would scratch up my tank. Link to comment
smarsh
A blade works the best, but you risk the scratching and cutting the silicone seams. I use this algae blade I got from a LFS, its not sharp so less chance of cutting a seam. Link to comment
Lizzie1324
I think I've seen some of those! Thanks for your help Do you have a tank thread? Link to comment
JimDantin
The pseudochromis is really nice. The rock also look great -- it's really interesting to see how everyone has their own approach to reef scapes. Get bluesky to add you to his index thread. Cheers Link to comment
smarsh
Check out my thread......Bluesky actually made a RSM index thread. It really helps http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...p;#entry1679238 Link to comment

Lizzie1324
And quick update, this morning I found my emerald crab chomping away on my hammer coral ! So a while ago I set up a 1.5 gallon pico for my brother, with my tank water and a small piece of live rock. All he has had in it are two tiny hermit crabs, and emerald crab, and 1 nas. snail and 2 cerith snails. And now he has two emerald crabs that look gigantic in that tiny tank. I hope to trade the evil one in for store credit though. No more crabs for me Link to comment
Lizzie1324
Oh and I had a quick question. I've heard that conch's are very good at cleaning the sand, and my sand could definitely use some cleaning, but I was under the impression that they got rather large. Does anyone know of a conch species that stays relatively small or is slow growing? Thanks everyone Link to comment
StevieT
I have one, he has been in there for a long time now. I only see it every now and then when it gets on the glass or comes out for a snack. Basically they do not clean the sand very well IME, yeah it will zoom around but it isn't like a robot lawn mower and gets every spot. They get pretty big, mine is a smaller one, maybe 2" long, and I feel bad for the guy since most of his sand is now covered in corals and GSP. Link to comment
Lizzie1324
Thanks StevieT. I'll probably just manually clean off the sand every once in a while and keep up with the water changes Link to comment
StevieT
it might be a stage, what are we talking about on the sand bed? A little more flow directed on it can help. I know that at times my sand will get covered in a brown junk, it likes to do that in the late spring. It may also be from over feeding or too much nutrients. Do you feed with frozen foods, and if so do you add the water that the food rests in after meling? Link to comment
wimby
Try using an old credit card to scrape your glass. Thats what I use and it works well. Link to comment
