Shortie
This is my 40- It started out life last April in a 30 tall. This is an early pic of the 30: I got the 40 a few weeks ago and can't believe I had the 30 for so long! I was surprised what the extra depth really meant when I scaped the rock. I was able to create several arches and caves while keeping plenty of open sand. For fish I currently have a molly miller blennie I got in Galveston, 4 green chromis, and an ocillaris clown. Inverts include the average snails, hermits, coral banded shrimp, and emerald crab. I don't have much in the way of coral yet, the tank is still pretty young. I have an assortment of zoas, candy cane, yellow polyps, kenya, xenia, frogspawn, pipe organ, a ric, and some mushrooms. Thanks for looking! Link to comment
BibleSue
It looks good! I'd keep the Kenya & Xenia where you can thin it when you want to. It can take over an area. I had to move my candy canes because my kenya kept stinging it. Link to comment
crazydante23
looks great, what type of lighting are you using? Link to comment
Shortie
Thanks for the kind words. Biblesue- I've got the Xenia and Kenya confined to their respective corners out of harm's way. The Xenia is actually on couple of rubble bits so that I can move and/or remove it when I need to. If it looks like its starting to migrate I just move the rubble a little and it has to start over. Crazydante- I'm using cf lights. I've got 4 - 96 watt bulbs. 1 10k, 1 actinic, and 2 50/50's along with a couple of moon lights. I've got a couple handfulls of halimeda in the sump which I'm going to get rid of since it eats up the calcium. If anyone in the Houston area wants some let me know. Link to comment
Sheppard
It looks great! I just bought a 40breeder last week! Unfortunately I can't set it up now due to space. Link to comment
Shortie
I understand about space. I'm in a postage stamp sized 1 bedroom apt. It sux!! Fortunately I have a VERY understanding and patient wife. She love me so much she doesn't kill me when the kitchen become the fish room. Now that's love! Link to comment
NAL
That is an awsome tank. I will watch this one for sure. Link to comment
nanoty
Nice set up. I hope to pic up a 40g breeder in the next few weeks. Good to see another SE Texaner here, are you on the MARSH forum also? Link to comment
Shortie
Nanoty- yeah, I'm on Marsh too (same user name) but I don't find it too be a very useful site other than the buy/sell/trade stuff. I've some a few cool reefers there, but mostly just over-read people who's sh!t must smell like roses. I hope to get some new pics up soon. My wife has the camera skills and is being lazy. I think I'll have to trade kitchen detail for some new pictures. Maybe I can buy her off with flowers. Hmmm. Link to comment

Shortie
Well, I finally got a few new pics. I got this Squamosa about a month ago. I had been looking for one locally for a while. This one also shows a toadstool frag I picked up. I wasn't too impressed with it so I ended up just selling it to another reefer for what I paid. A few night shots: I set up a couple of 10g tanks back to back with a u-tube and moded hob filter linking them for flow. This settup will work as my frag tank for a while. (I had the stuff laying around anyway) In the back tank is a sandbed, some live rock, and caulerpa. The front tank is bare bottom and pretty much just frags on some egg crate. Here's the filter mod: Thanks for looking! Link to comment
nanoty
Cool HOB mod, got any other pics of it? Link to comment
Shortie
Here's a pic of the hob from the frag tank: I cut the end off of another filter and used some weld on to put the left side together. On the right side, I just siliconed a piece of acrylic scrap to block the return. Here are some frags I'm selling locally from the frag tank: I'll try to get some more tanks pics up soon since I done re-did my aquascape a bit. Link to comment
PurpleUP
Nice photos. Are you taking those or your wife? hehe. What kind of camera? Link to comment
Shortie
My wife takes most of the pics. I bought her a Canon Rebel XTI a few months ago. I haven't bothered to learn how to use it. I have a pos Sony point and shoot that I use. It's pretty craptacular compared to the Canon. Link to comment
Shortie
A few new pics- My favorite Zoas - They look like they glow in the dark under the moonlight. FTS after I redid my scape. I avalanched the left side a bit to create more ledges to place corals. Link to comment
nanoty
Great scape and nice shots. I cut up my canopy, check my thread in a few minutes. Link to comment
Shortie
Thanks man. I have a bunch of smaller pieces of lr in my sump and I played with the scape a bunch this week. I ended up putting most of the rock back in the sump though cause I didn't want to lose my open spaces. Things don't change in my tank much because I keep spending all my cash (limited as it may be) on other hobbies. I'll get some new stuff one of these days. I had to move my frag tank yesterday. Our kitten has decided that the heat from the light fixtures feels good and was taking naps on top of the tank. Ugh. I could just picture the electrocution if the legs on one of the lights broke. She was using the frag tank as a step to jump up from. Damn kitty. Link to comment
Shortie
I helped another reefer move a 180g tank today and he payed me in coral and rock. Sweet deal for me. That just means I'll have to re-scape again though. I set up a 10g quarantine tank tonight with an old light. It isn't the greatest, but it'll do for now. The overall view: Rock Nem (now in 40b)- you can get this on the jetties in Galveston. There are a bunch of colors there: Monti (now dead): Encrusting Gorgonia: I can't remember what he called this: Button Polyps: Link to comment
nanoty
Sounds like a sweet deal, congrats on the new swag. Link to comment
Shortie
I thought it worked out alright. It's been a while since I got rid of my 200g. I forgot how heavy those damn things are! Let me know if you ever see anything of mine that you want a frag of Nanoty- I'll make sure it's ready to go for your tank. (not that I spend enough $$ to have anything spectacular) Link to comment
nanoty
I am aquiring equipment for my tank as I type. My skimmer is on the way and I am working on an overflow and some pumps. Be happy to swap some frags some day. Link to comment
