hey StevieT, when you said take the bio balls out do you mean the white little ring type of things in a bag?

(Fishhead2 answering for Stevie. Sorry Stevie): Yes thats exactly what he means.

The white rings in the bag are ceramic media. The bio balls are usually little plastic-type 'balls'. You may have both, or you may only have the ceramic rings in yours. Mine came with both, and I took both out. If you have live rock in your tank, there is no need for either. Congrats on getting such a nice Christmas present!

Ok thanks on the info, i will take out the rings right now, i don't have any bio balls.

My tank still looks like it did in the picture, it does not seem to be clearing up anymore. It looks really cloudy, how can i reduce that?

put some kind of sponge or filter floss in the rear chamber to catch the debris. or just wait it should settle down after a couple days.

the RSM comes with the rings, no bio balls. I will always call any bio media "bio balls" just a habbit.

and yes, chuck them and don't look back. Run the black sponge and the filter floss for a few days. Then you can chuck the filter floss, it's important not to let it plug up too much, it will interupt your flow through the filtration chambers.

ok, thanks for the info, i will run the filter floor for a week and then toss it.

How do you like the rock I sold you?

The rock looks great, great transaction and prices.

Heres some pics of it in the tank.

Forgot to add i also got some more corals today because they were such a good deal. I will be keeping them in my 5g pico till the RSM cycles.

Bullseye shroom

I also got a little cheato from Nick's Reef and got a pink paly frag too. Will post pics when it opens.

Also got a free frag of radioactive green dragon eyes.

None of these will be added until the tank cycles, but they will get added eventually.

Now you're moving. rock looks good but I agree with you as you need some more. Glad you are waiting on adding the coral to this tank. Be patient and let the tank mature. You will probably see some little cycle from this rock as well as anymore you put in. The problem with adding some rock now and then later is of course the need to wait again. You want to get to the point where you have added the total amount you are going to add then wait to ensure cycling has done it's thing. Adding a little at a time prolongs the wait period before you can add anything.

Nice looking shrooms though.

As for any life in that blue spot, I don't think so but you never know what will happen. Just keep an eye on it and hope for the best. To me that piece of rock, if it is the one on the lower right, looks like a pc or ornamental coral you would buy, not a pc of live rock. It will though become live rock as the bacteria colonize in it. It may already be live if the person you got it from had it in their tank for any amount of time.

I could be all washed up on that but JMO.

Keep us posted on your progress lilred.

Yeah i understand that i need to let it cycle after putting all of the rock in for a while. I will probably just wait a month or so just to make sure that it had completely cycled. The only reason i ask about the blue sop because there seems to be quite a few of them. Maby it will come back a color up, who knows.

Thanks for the info!

Where are you planning on putting the cheato?

Well i think i am going to get a soap dish and put it in the main display. I am going to try to cover the sides with some rock and hide it kind of near the back but still getting light.

kind of hard to explain.

EDIT:

Maby this will help.( lol i love paint)
