surgicalsense
I am digging the couple. I decided to get one, well it have been 8 to 9 months now with no crab like neighbor in my tank and I thought I would take the plunge. Do you tell you what sex it is when you purchase it? I am not going to pair mine, I am just curious. I know the bf will want to name it Edited May 3, 2012 by surgicalsense Quote Link to comment
hirschy75
Do those crabs need an anemone? Or do they do fine without them? They're awesome! Quote Link to comment
Paigee
Hehe I liked the story about the yuma and the following angry Tweety picture. It's great Hope it grabs onto something for you The pairing of the crabs is exciting too! Quote Link to comment

metrokat
Box O' coralz arrived! 10 zoanthids! Still PO of course. From Lawnman! And he even sent me a frag rack, a free ultra pink mushroom and god knows what else. Word Ha! I called it:Time to put on the deep love music. DID NOT! That post showed Mr. Silly and Jerry in a fist fight. The love fest is between Lola and Jerry. I have 3 porcelain anemone crabs. I am digging the couple. I decided to get one, well it have been 8 to 9 months now with no crab like neighbor in my tank and I thought I would take the plunge. Do you tell you what sex it is when you purchase it? I am not going to pair mine, I am just curious. I know the bf will want to name it I don't know how to sex them, planning to read up on it now since this pairing happened, lots of reefers have been asking. They are still on the same BTA or the same area of rock, but are not holding hands or cuddling again. Looks like a standoff at the moment becasue Mr. Silly just walked into their love pad, Jerry is doing the gorilla dance again. So my guess is that Jerry and Mr. Silly are boys. but I'll read up on it and see what I find. Do those crabs need an anemone? Or do they do fine without them? They're awesome! While their name is Porcelain Anemone crab, they do not need an anemone. They like soft host corals. Jerry was on a rock of zoanthids in his former home. Lola made my duncan her host (not sure if you saw my homing crab post). Mr. Silly was always on a bed a GSP before he found the BTA. I'm guessing they will host maxi minis, rock flowers just fine too. Hehe I liked the story about the yuma and the following angry Tweety picture. It's great Hope it grabs onto something for you The pairing of the crabs is exciting too! Thanks Paigee, the yuma is now in a little plastic cup so lets see what it does, looks tons better than the riccordea and both were put in the tank at the same time. I love your crabs. So cute that they paired up. I have another porcelain crab, a caribbean kind that you can see in my signature. His name is Dingbat and he is rather idiotic, lots of entertainment value right there especially when he runs around fluffing my mushrooms. The white porcelain anemone crabs are really adorable, they stay put for the most part and are always visible. Edited May 7, 2012 by metrokat Quote Link to comment
metrokat
The jailbird riccordea story AKA the frag prison So I'm the frustrated reefer that can't keep Florida Riccordea mushrooms happy. I thought I would try one more thing before I call it quits and sell this mushroom like I did all the other ones. Exhibit A: take pissed off mushroom and try not to yell at it Exhibit B take a cross section of PVC, a frag disc that fits and tulle. Glue the tulle on one side of the PVC, have a second piece of tulle cut to size for the other side of the PVC. Place dumb riccordea in jail (put the frag disk in first) Cover jail with tulle and secure with rubber band. Place in tank. Wait. Watch. Major Equipment update coming soon! Joe Dirt
Very nice. You're going to fill this one up too, and end up with a 4x2x2 120G beast. I'm clairvoyant. Well not really, but I try really really hard to be. Quote Link to comment
surgicalsense
I really like the ric frag prison. Quote Link to comment

Well not really, but I try really really hard to be. Joe is right. Screw the 75 I keep telling you to get, and go for a 120. Now that you can make Zeph do your bidding and steal his corals, a 120 should be easy. Quote Link to comment

I like that term better. let's hope it works Lawn is the best!! Everything I got from him is doing wonderful so far so good. nice trick with the mushroom and tube there. I'm guessing they will host maxi minis, rock flowers just fine too. They do not require anemones, but in the wild, they are always in one. In captivity they aren't put with their normal predators, so they don't have a need to find one for protection, but it can't hurt to have one for them to live in. They will probably feel more comfortable. They will indeed be hosted by a maxi or rock flower just fine, they just won't be "in" it, just around it. Quote Link to comment

surgicalsense
my porcline Anemone crab is being hosted by the underside of a zoa rock lol My new one (first an only ) is hosting an LR cave it found. But, I do not think it has taken a tour of tank to find a coral of it's liking. * did HW Male: Under belly has a triangular shaped flap Female: Under belly has a oval shaped flap ... then of course I drop my crab in the tank after I found out this information, derp. metrokat
* did HW Male: Under belly has a triangular shaped flap Female: Under belly has a oval shaped flap Oh that's great info! I got a good shot and video of Jerry flapping his flap yesterday, was going to use those for a guide. Now I get to find out HE IS A BOY! Nice new corals!!!Total ric abuse. Screw the tang police. NYRC. New York Ric Cops. Totally, I need to be in ric jail. Although I got a traffic ticket yesterday (my first) so I've had enough of law enforcement for this year. Remind me to tell you about my car towing story form 2 years ago and what a nightmare that was. I should have gone for therapy after NYPD was done juggling with my emotions for 24 hours straight. surgicalsense
Yes thanks guys. I also did not know how to tell if porclines was boy/girl. Ill check tonight. I will be patient I suppose before I try to catch it and away from that little cave. Or maybe when I break down the tank that will be my moment to sex the darn thing Quote Link to comment
banshee
It's the same for emeralds. That's how I figured out mine are a male and a female. They like to stand up and wave their claws around so it wasn't hard to catch a glimpse of the carapace. Quote Link to comment
ccapasso
Nice new corals. Also, neat idea on the ric. You may want to try and add some rubble in there so it has something else to attach to. Or at least that is what I've read. Quote Link to comment
