Neya
My customized bulbs are made of %100 awesome. I'm so happy with these in general so far. I can't wait to see the blend over a tank. I also plan on buying a lot more. Quote Link to comment
TinyGiant
Anyone else? I just screwed mine down to the 2x4 with a small screw. the wires come out on the sides and there is a little tiny bit of a groove you can line the wires up with. if you were to screw them to something thinner you could drill holes for the wires and feed them through.. Like if you had a nice piece of rigid aluminum or something to use as a mounting base. Quote Link to comment

TinyGiant
she ordered them prebuilt to her specs Quote Link to comment
Neya
she ordered them prebuilt to her specs +1 I has no skills. Ive never soldered, and have no one willing to sit down and teach me cool electronic stuff even though all my in-laws are very experienced in all that stuff. If I had the skillset and tools, I wouldve done it myself. But the biggest plus, was being able to chose the optic, as it seems like optics for the 3x1w bulbs are impossible to find? For everyone thats messaging me about these bulbs (theres been quite afew questions) the seller I got these from no longer carriers this particular gu10, nor the 3x2w dimmables he had last month. The "new" ones in are 3x3w non dimmable gu10, but they're taller. Like 87mm base of socket to end. The ones I got were shorter, but not by much at 2.5" exactly. There is also a higher price tag, as he says they are of higher quality???? At $11.45ea shipped now. I paid I believe 10.58, not much of a price increase. thewire
What you think about this light? it's for frag tank only. Should i use the white or blue? http://cgi.ebay.com/Wholesale-10W-bright-W...=item2564fc0b91 Edited June 23, 2011 by thewire Quote Link to comment
TinyGiant
i would be curious to see how well those perform. i was thinking about the 10w when i was originally looking into the premade led bulbs.. but due to the cost i went with the gu10. Quote Link to comment
fote03
Neya which seller did u use? Edited June 24, 2011 by fote03 Quote Link to comment
Neya
http://myworld.ebay.com/lihelifu/ His english is pretty good, and he understands very well. He's also very polite, and nice. I know he customizes the 3x3w, dont think he customizes his newly listed 3x1w or 4x1w colors, but he DOES customize the optics. I plan on ordering more soon. Neya which sell did u use? fote03
Thanks. Just emailed him. Hopefully i can order some soon. Im outfitting a 55gal. Has anyone found gu10 with purple leds? Quote Link to comment
afboundguy
Just ordered 8 blue and 8 cool whites for my new nano cube tank... Can't wait to hook these up! Big thanks to everybody in this thread for their input on these bulbs... Quote Link to comment
Neya
So I made the light fixture box last week from sintra (aka PVC foam board). This was not hard to do, and very light. But I don't have power tools, so the edges were not spectacular. The husband works in a mill/finishing shop so he made me a temp box after seeing my sintra masterpiece. The permanent fixture will be made when he has full shop priveledges in a few months and access to the CNC machine. Anyways, in my hunt I did find a seller with white 3x1 gu10 with wider optics also. I'm seeing if they also have blue bulbs. Im hoping to get the temp box finished And mounted this weekend. It will look off(over a 2.5) as I had it made for a 5.5-10gal for my upgrade. Neya
Super fast reply http://stores.ebay.com/E-Light-Electonic-Company?_rdc=1 Seller has a store and auction type listings with lots of options in led bulbs. She(?) customizes optics, and has blue bulbs for sure in 3x1 gu10. Some are dimmable, but with added costs. Seems like they have a 1 yr warranty too. So might be worth it for some people to look into since there are a LOT of options. Prices are higher than the Lihelife(http://myworld.ebay.com/lihelifu) and other 3x1w sellers so its something to take into consideration. Edited July 1, 2011 by Neya Quote Link to comment
bebecr
I really love this post. Once upon a time... I was thinking on buying an expensive LED Light Fixture, but then I read this post and see TinyGiant's SPS pictures... That is what I was looking for... Yesterday I finished my light fixture for my JBJ 12g Nano. I used 9 4x1w GU10 LED bulbs: 5 blue and 4 Cool White. Here is the diagram (I need to add an additional 1" - 1 1/2" to the ledges): Placement . . . Sockets secured . . . Electrical w connectors All connections . . . Connectors/cables glued . . . Faceplate to hide wires Finished fixture . . . From below . . . Need a bigger ledge Moonlight (center blue w reflector) . . . Moonlight (center blue w/o reflector)(spotlight effect) . . . . . . (blue all over) Thanks for all your information!!! Edited July 6, 2011 by bebecr Quote Link to comment
TinyGiant
very nice! I've decided i am going to bump up my system to 32 lights total (adding more blues.) figured i had some coral money to use and figured more lighting would be nice. I want to see if i like the system with a more blue to white ratio. if not the bulbs will go on the frag tank in the basement Quote Link to comment

Neya
I was thisclose. Wired it up with those ez-splicers. Both bulbs were working. Got a glance of it over the tank(b-u-tee-ful) and heard a small click. The bulb first wired was out. However. It still works(the bulb) in the other Socket. So I rewired the first socket to check for bad connections and everything seems good to go. But no. First socket isn't working. Not sure if it's a bad socket or what. Quote Link to comment
Neya
Fixed the above problem. Swapped out the socket and splicers for new ones. Then hung it and set the timer. And saw how bad my pico looks from weeks of unlighted neglect. So no fts for a bit However I'll snap photos of the fixture tomorrow. I do have one last question. Do the ends of the main wire have to make a connection or can I use nuts on the end? I wired it =o=o= with nuts on the end for now and realized after this may be an issue? Quote Link to comment
TinyGiant
just have it end on a socket. So it ends on the last light. No need for tails Quote Link to comment
