Make a fist, yea thats how big the piece of red planet he cut is. Who wants to trade frags?

I also grabbed i piece of blue polyp green monti, and a branch of something else. :ninja:

That last pic is sweet!! Just a little advice, add gfo slowly in very small amounts. In my heavily stocked (12 fish, 2 being tangs) 40 breeder I'm only using about 2 table spoons of gfo, and I started at less than half of that. Gfo is very efficient at stripping the water column of po4. If this is done rapidly it can cause sps to bleach. Proceed with caution. Same thing with bio-pellets, use them sparingly. Im using ~1/4 cup in a tlf 150.

Thanks Glen, I added about 2 tsp of GFO in a mesh bag and hung it between some baffles just to test it out to see if I needed any more. My concern was that I was seeing a little cyano in places like my return bulkhead. Now that I have watched the tank for a few weeks I feel like it is just another kind of stage, like diatoms. I'm going to see if I can just knock it out with my fuge instead of going crazy with the filtration media.

That last pic isn't my tank, but a really large piece of that particular red planet is being drip acclimated right now. My biggest problem is going to be a place to put it. I think some a frag mag is needed.

Love that Red Planet colony, especially the way it's tabling. Looking forward to pics of the new additions. Sounds like you're building an SPS dominant tank :)

Haha, yes it is being dominated by the SPS at the moment. That colony is completely tabled out its about 4 inches wide, 3" long I'd say. I did get 2 other corals last night with the red planet, the tanks first and probably only scrolling monti cap and something special that you can see in the one pic I took last night.

The right rock formation is filling rapidly thanks to my local reef club members. I'll get some pictures tonight after work. I got everything mounted up. I made DIY frag-mag for the red planet colony using the magnets from an old koralia that I just use to mix water now.

Next on the list for this tank is going to be filling the bottom half of SPS mountain and the left side of the tank with zoa's palys and rics and maybe a torch if I can find the right kind. I found some local halimeda opunita and halimeda incrassata. I love whats going on in Gena's tank with the macro algae and it also makes the aquarium look much more natural. While I love the colors of the SPS, I don't just want a sterile zeovit looking tank. I would prefer to look at a real mini reef like the ones I have had the privilege to see in person.

Killer frags there man!! Love the size of that Red Planet. Always nice starting off with a good sized chunk rather than just a small piece. I'm sure it looks great in the tank!!

Nice mini colony!

I've never drip acclimated coral before. Should I?

This was a special situation, I had to cook dinner. :D

I almost always do a dilution of my water with bag water in a Tupperware with the coral in it. Enough bag water to cover the coral and double the volume of the acclimation water 10mL at a time with a syringe.

I dripped these two because I really wanted to make sure the pearlberry and red planet had a good transition. These corals are coming from a tank running a Ca reactor + kalk top off, neither of which I have. I also got a green cap that I just temp acclimated and glued onto the rocks. The drip acclimation water also makes for good rinse water after the Revive dip.

Nice pieces!!! Really diggin that P-berry!

Thanks man. Me too, I checked it out last night after lights out and its polyps were out a mile. I'm hope it enjoyed its phyto snack.

WOW! Now THAT could bring me back to the dark side  Lucky you to have a chunk of it :happydance:

Lucky me to have a chunk of it that is so big, that I will be able to frag it in a few months. Get ready for some SPS Gena. :D

I would place it exactly like it is in the photo...love how it looks growing on the wall. Now how would I get it to stick there? magnetic frag plug????

Making me miss my lost soldiers there buddy...

Planet, pearl and a joe the coral were doing quite well before I had issues.

May they take hold and grow like weeds for you Sir.

( Then reconsider --and bring frags of each to the NJRC frag swap for me )

fingerscrossed

I had an old Koralia powerhead that I just use to mix water and I sacrificed its magnets to make a magnetic fragplug. I covered the whole magnet with putty then let that dry, then I used some more putty and superglue to attach the colony. Its now happily resting on my back glass right in the between the vortech and the return flow.

The swap isn't until November right? If I make plans now I might be able to make it down :D If not we'll have to think of some way to get you a piece.

So I went on vacation for 3 days, my family has a cottage on the fingerlakes. I did some free diving, and a lot of skiing.

Unfortunately, I came home to a really sick clownfish. I've never lost a saltwater fish to this date and I would be really sad for my cute little black clown to leave us. She is currently breathing quickly and is losing color along her dorsal ridge, her fins are losing color. She is just kind of hovering around at the bottom of the tank right now with her mate close by her side. I gave her a quick 3 minute freshwater dip. I was too paranoid to go any longer. If she makes it through the night I will set up a hospital tank.

Everything else looks fine, she was QT'd and given cupramine treated by the LFS before she came home.

Current tank params are:

Salinity 1.024 (refractometer)

Temp: 79 (RKL Calibrated Probe)

pH: 8.1 (RKL Calibrated Probe)

ammonia: 0 (API)

Nitrate: 0 (API)

Phosphate 0.4 (hannah low range)

I havent checked anything else, the other clown shows zero symptoms of anything, and my green clown goby is fine. All my inverts are normal, all my corals are awesome, some even have noticeable growth.

It's Brooklynella. I hope she makes it. In any case I've got a 20l QT running right now at 1.018. Gave the baby a fresh water dip. Seemed to help a little. I'm going to get some formalin and try to get the rest of the fish out of the main tank right now.
