kinetic
Nice find! I think I'll have to pass on them, I only want the female, I doubt I have enough room for both. Also I'm trying to buy all my stuff from LiveAquaria, their 14 day guarantee and amazing customer service is worth the wait. I'm contemplating on getting the ventralis this week or next... =/ Here's a pair of genicanthus: http://phishybusiness.com/livestock/index....34afc46ced29550 Quote Link to comment
FateX9
i had a pair once, but they didnt make it...and i got them from phishybusiness actually the male came in huge at around 5-6" and the female was around 3-4" in the bag, the male was vertical, literally vertical and he died that night the female seemed to be floating but still alive and once i got her into the tank she seemed ok which got me ecstatic but she died a few weeks later out of no where, day before that she was great i would deffinately try to find these guys local the next time im in the market for one you gotta remember too that theyre deepwater fish my most favorite angel EVER and to have them die right in front of you is not fun Quote Link to comment
kinetic
yeah there was a LFS that was holding one for me for awhile, then they sold it =( blast. I'm waiting for LiveAquaria, their customer service and holding facilities are fantastic. Quote Link to comment
kinetic
So I decided to enter into this month's photo contest. First time entering! You guys should go vote for your favorite picture: http://www.nano-reef.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=536 Mine is the Sea Dragon one, but by all means, choose the one you like best =) My Ventralis Anthias came in last Tuesday. I finally saw both of them today. The third had died the day after arrival. One is much smaller than the other, but they both have female colorations. I tried to feed them, but they don't bite. They come out when the food is in, but they won't go for any. I fed formula 1 flakes, formula 2 small pellets, and rod's food thawed and soaked in garlic. nothing... but the gobies are damn fat now. Uhuru
I'm not familiar with ventralis anthias, but I know some are hard to get to eat. Have you tried live foods? Sucks to say this but they won't last long without food so at least you'll get your money back. I'd suggest getting your anthias from phishy business (since he will tell you whether they are eating flake food or not) or Diver's Den since they go through longer quarantines than regular LA fish and must be eating. oh and some acclimate better to aquarium lighting than others, you might want to feed with only actinics on, good luck... lakshwadeep
Great looking tank! kinetic, do you have pics of your trimmas and eviotas? If so, how are they doing? Also, how long did you have to wait for your fish? I've noticed that liveaquaria.com doesn't list them "in stock" but instead asks for an email. Thanks in advance. kinetic
try mysis shrimp and put them in front of one of your powerheads...that made my anthias got bananas the rod's food has mysis and tons of other crap my gobies were lovin... well who knows. I'll try straight up mysis. I'm not familiar with ventralis anthias, but I know some are hard to get to eat. Have you tried live foods? I got mine from LiveAquaria, and they said to feed them selcon/garlic soaked mysis. I had a chunk of rod's food so I was using that first. I tried feeding a bottle of tigger pods, but those things just sorta disappear lol =) My lights have been off for a few days, my corals are turning white =X Quote Link to comment

kinetic
FTS? check the first post of the thread =) I updated my FTS there. It looks exactly the same right now as the one posted, really. I do things slow and steady with my tank, so you won't see some crazy influx of anything quickly, sorry!! This thread is not for those with ADD all those guys who stock their tanks the moment it's ready... yeah I dunno about that. Quote Link to comment
PurpleUP
My First Frags - [ 2/10/08 ] Water parameters were spot on! Went to a Bay Area Reefers frag swap yesterday, picked up a few frags from Atlantis Aquarium on my way home... and after a 24 hour interceptor / flatworm exit laced dip, a 15 minuted providone/tmpcc, these following 5 frags make it into the display tank. These are the first frags I've added to my ELOS 120: You're obviously a creative. And that's a good thing. Your frag pics resemble contemporary movie credits. Would you mind going into slightly more detail about your SPS dipping techniques? I've never known quite how to introduce new SPS into my tank. Would you mind going into slightly more detail about your SPS dipping techniques? I've never known quite how to introduce new SPS into my tank. a creative? i thought creative was an adjective? Thanks for the comments on the photos =) This is my SPS dipping technique: 1. Setup 5g bucket a day ahead, mix with reef crystals with 300gph powerhead and heater and leave for a day 2.Bring in new SPS corals, cut frags (I never start with colonies) off of their bases about 5mm above the base and rinse with tank water (water does not go back in the tank) 3. Dip them for 15 minutes in a mixture of Providone / Tropic Marine Coral Cure 4. Add corals to 5g bucket with 3lbs. of live rock that I use for these instances only, the LR can easily more ammonia all the way to nitrates fast. 5. Add a triple dose of Interceptor and a single dose of Flatworm Exit. If I have some, I will also add Furan-2 (but that's usually just for zoas). 6. 24 hours later, I dip for 5 minutes in Tropic Marine Pro Coral Cure again, and mount them on frag plugs. 7. Once the glue has cured (I use IC Gel), I rinse them in tank water again thoroughly, inspect for any eggs of any sort, and if they're clean, I pop them into the frag tank or straight into the display. 8. If more eggs / bugs found, I setup a QT tank and leave them there for 3 weeks... usually I just toss them and mark them as a loss. That's how I avoid pests and even algae pests too from frag bases etc. Most AEFW etc. bugs lay eggs on the bases, which I always cut. It sounds tedious, but it's really simple. Quote Link to comment

During the dotcom era, it was very much a noun True creatives are a dying breed. Keep up the good work. Once I graduate into my 280G dream tank, I'd like to exclusively grow out 1 or 2" frags. All of their branches will naturally grow into the light that way. Thanks for the great detail in dipping SPS. I'll store this information in a safe place. Quote Link to comment

Now I'm in the web app world, and I guess there's some random adjectives used as nouns too Yeah if you have a good method down for dipping, it's not hard and you can avoid the crazy red bugs, acro eating flat worms, nuisance algae, and anything else for that matter. goodluck with the 280G Quote Link to comment

kinetic
Pseudoanthias Ventralis and Trimma Cana Debut - [ 2/28/08 ] Great news, the Ventralis Anthias are no longer scared of me! I freak them out at first, but then they come out of their hiding places and are very bold. They don't care that I have a camera on them either. If I make really sudden movements they'll slowly glide under their cave, but I think they're improving a lot! I can move around in front of the tank, halides full blast, and they'll be ok with it. I saw one of the anthias gulp down at least 5 mysis shrimp! The other is still going after phantom food, lol. Well, because I was so excited, I grabbed my camera and took a few pictures. This thread needs some new ones anyway. Click on the link below to see them: http://flickr.com/photos/kinetic/tags/22808/show/ Teasers: Does the text annoy you? If so, click here. Her profile: Here's the pair, they look hungry huh? And here's a picture of one of my Trimma Cana's. I have two of these. They're so fat because they get fed 4 times a day like the anthias. kinetic
ELOS Tank Videos - [ 3/05/08 ] You guys are in for a treat! I got a hold of my girlfriend's camera and was able to take some videos of the tank. The last one of my sump is still being uploaded. The videos are about 3 minutes long at most, but they're like half a gig big! But I uploaded to YouTube so the quality sucks. The noise you hear is the loud ass fans from the Aquactinic lights. It's not actually that loud, but I'd just turn the sound off when viewing. I'm really crappy at video, so excuse the quality. If you want some eye candy see a few posts up of my fish pictures =) Overview of the ELOS System 120: Here's one showing off the vortech's pulse mode, and my ventralis (trying) to eat: I have one more video of the sump that's being uploaded now Edited March 5, 2008 by kinetic Quote Link to comment
