Premium Aquatics sells them, but they are special order and it takes about 3-4 wks shipped directly from Germany :) Or you can contact Slovan on RC he has an Elos tank and can tell you where he got his. I know, too late though...

I'm sure your tank will look sweet with the Iwasaki's. They produce such a clean bright light and with that glass it's going to be awesome.

If the aquactinics are butt ugly, I won't hesitate to return / sell it and switch though. but I have confidence that it will meet expectations and meet the good looks of the rest of the system. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see =) Scott at Aquarium Specialty is so cool though, I'm not worried at all either way. Maybe he can even get me the spectra with icecap ballasts.

I'm all for getting this system right, without compromises, so it's ok if I wait a bit for the lighting to be perfect =)

I'm excited about the Iwasaki's too, heard too much good stuff =)

Thanks for your suggestions / help btw ;)

isnt it nice to finally do a tank without compromises, it makes the tank setup so much easier and keeping it up so much easier

i think you will love the aquatinics light, my constellations are awesome and i couldnt be happier, im just waiting to get a few MH and LED spotlights for growth and color

I finally found my RO/DI system. Took me all morning on my day off to find it. Apparently it got stashed in the very back of my father's garage under tons of old mattresses. How the hell did I find it? I have no idea, stroke of luck I guess.

Now if I can figure out how to plumb this thing to the water pipe... though I wish I had a faucet adapter.

Link to comment
why not get a saddle valve adaptor and puncture one of the copper pipes in your plumbing for it

I wanted to install it in the kitchen sink, but had to do some modifications to the cabinet there, but I realized the outlet tubing that was included was long enough to reach from the basement's utility sink to the living room!!! So there you have it, I just plumbed up my air water ice typhoon III =) It's doing a "waste" right now to clean out the membranes, once that's done I'll start pumping RO/DI water to the tank.

In the meantime I'm going to cleanup a bit and start aquascaping rocks in my backyard...

nice im in my basement right now getting ready to start on my aquascaping right now

hahaha nice! I actually realized it started raining outside, so into the basement for me too! high five! lol

Do you know where Scott is located? I ordered a BK Mini from him last week, he said it shipped last Monday but it's still not here. If it's not here by tomorrow I will start to worry.

I believe he's in South Carolina (where I was born!), given his area code is 803. If you login to the site, you can checkout your tracking information. Give him a call, he's always willing to help out! Scott Groseclose (803)309-0234

well my aquascape went pretty fast, i only had 7 rocks lol

i will show you mine if you show me yours lol

I actually ended up not aquascaping =/ I started cleaning up all the mess I created with the RO/DI setup, and up around the tank. Then I started going online looking for ways to keep my rock together (going with some kind of hydrolic cement). I then was looking for a source of ammonium chloride to kick start bacteria populations inside my totally sterile tank. Aquaticeco dot com has the ProLine brand. I might just get that and then get a pouch of BioSpira.

RO/DI Setup + Other Updates - [ 10/15/07 ]

Here is an update for the new week!

RO/DI

I've successfully installed my Air Water Ice Typhoon III RO/DI system! It took all morning to read the instructions and to figure out all of the plumbing out. In the end I realized how easy it was, but that's after spraying myself with water like crazy, burning my finger on the hot water pipe testing to see exactly which was the hot water, and then going nuts when a huge spider went down my shirt. Spiders are fine, but when they get into your clothing, it's not the easiest thing to stay calm.

I installed the rodi in the basement utility sink near my frag tank. The outlet tube is 20 feet, so it went all the way upstairs into the breakfast nook. I will probably get some kind of water dispenser with a float valve inside of it so that we can use it to drink, and for filling the topoff compartment, and for mixing new salt water. I'm looking for some kind of nice water tank for this though since it's not utility only, but a part of the kitchen.

AquaScape

I'm thinking of using Hydrolic Cement (like "Quickwall" or "Thorite) to hold my rocks together. But first I'm going to use epoxy and gorilla glue to play with the arrangement, then when I'm done and the gorilla glue is done expanding, I'll apply the hydrolic cement to really give it a strong hold. I'll probably end up with three big pieces to add to the tank =)

Cycling

My plan for cycling includes using my RODI water, which btw is reading 000ppm ;), a combination of Marco and Reefer Rocks, dosages of ProLine Ammonium Chloride, and a pouch of Bio Spira from Marineland. It will be a totally sterile cycle, so hopefully the ProLine ammonium chloride will speed the bacteria population growth, and Bio Spira will basically add a good amount of initial bacteria. Problem is Bio Spira costs a handful, especially since it needs overnight / 2 day air =/ I'm going to look for a source locally.

Anyone know where I can find Ammonium Chloride locally as well?

Vortechs

Just put in an order for two Vortech pumps. These are the ones with the wireless controllers built in. With them I've also paired up battery backups to each in case there's a power outage! Nothing like redundancy to sleep easy / work easy.

I hope the pumps get in by next week so I can try them out. I've seen some insane waves being created by two of these vortech's on some other's system 120's.

Aquactinics

Scott at AquariumSpecialty has been amazingly helpful. He's put together the most kick butt lighting system for me. An Aquatctinics 48" MH / T5 pendant with two Iwasaki 15K 175watt Lamps and two 54watt ATI Blue Plus lamps. The Blue Plus are currently on 2 week backorder, but the rest is coming. The fixture will be hung with the yoyo hangers I posted about on my first post in this thread.

I'll add the ATI Blue+'s when they arrive, but I'll have the fixture up and ready first. I decided to go with the Oil-Rubbed Bronze to keep with the color scheme of the stand and the room.

No pictures right now, thing much to take a picture of other than the RO/DI, which is kind of in an ugly place anyway =P

Just ordered a 250watt Eheim Jager Heater and a bucket of Reef Crystals. Next week my tank will be salty and heated =)

After running my skimmer and chiller pump, the heat rose from 66.5 to 66.8 in about half an hour, and then this morning it was at 72 degrees. The pumps that were running was the quiet one 1200 and the eheim 1250 for the skimmer. 6 degree increase? Not sure if it was from the pumps or not though =/

i recommend using nylon rod to get it to stay together like i did and then using the cement to keep it together, i think thats what im going to do

what source are you using to get the rods? I'm kind of interested in getting some pvc rods... or just zip tying the rock together, haha =)

Link to comment

i got mine from us plastics, i used 1/2" threaded nylon rod and nylon nuts and washers and it worked perfectly, its how i was able to keep the huge shelf piece as an overhang like it is

Link to comment

what does U.V. stabilized mean? It says the nylon rods aren't U.V. stabilized, does that mean it will crack or something from UV? Or just discolor?

I may get the acrylic rods they sell at usplastic.com. They are FDA approved, U.V. stabilized, cast acrylic, etc.

I wouldn't drink distilled water, you'll end up with mineral deficiency.

If your drinking the water that's only been filtered by the RO membrane, that should be okay.

I don't think you can end up with mineral deficiency that easily. Fruits and vegetables and all sorts of other food have water and other minerals in it too.

But yes, I will be setting up a RO tank and RO/DI tank. I just have to wait for a bit more tubing and JG fittings ;)

pics ! pics !

:)

I've posted tons of pictures so far =) Nothing has changed yet, other than the display being half full of water, sump is full of water, and the RO/DI is sloooowly pumping 80 gallons into my display. I woke up this morning and it's just over half way filled, I turned it off so it wouldn't overflow while I'm at work. It should be full by late tonight with the return pump on! The system should be totally flowing by tonight. Pictures will come then.

I believe my Quiet One 1200 is too powerful, even after going through the chiller, my phosphate reactor is getting hit too hard. It's empty right now, but with phosphate absorbing media, it may not work correctly.

Also the 1200 uses 25.5 watts! I'm going to try to replace it with the Quiet One 800 which only uses 13.3 watts. Hopefully it'll put enough GPH through the chiller but less through the reactor.

Ok fine, pictures here:

Alright, it's been a whole page without pictures, I have to add pictures to every page, so here it is:

My tank is almost done filling. Only a couple more gallons to go!

Here are some pix (for ezcompany since we're doing artsy fartsy water filling shots):

The edge of my elos... now THAT's what i called beveled to perfection:

And finally boring shots:

Tank being filled, piano reflections (the tubing I bought was made a long time ago, 2 years):

Flow at LAST! - [ 10/18/07 ]

I'm excited to say that after 2 years of trying to upgrade my tank from a 32g M-Tank, it's finally flowing! My tank has officially filled with enough RO/DI water to turn on all my pumps (minus vortechs of course).

I'm still waiting for more water so that the sump will be fuller, but that will take another hour. I might just do that tomorrow after work.

But return pump is now on and blasting away. The return flow is pretty easy and not strong. Should provide good flow to the sump and back. I'll definitely need my vortech's on at full blast to keep SPS, can't rely on the return pump for any flow contributions.

It's time for bed! Let's cross our fingers that no hoses pop =X

Congrats on finally getting things to the point where you can add some flow in the tank. This tank is simply unbelievable without corals or anything else. :)

Your pics are awesome as well....love the duotone B&Ws
