its called the system 120 because i think thats how many cm acros it is.. its 82g+sump

Yeah 120 is the centimeters. They name the models for their lengths, so the 120 and 120xl are both 120cm long, (a tad under 4 feet), etc.

Maybe I should just call it my 120 tank, and set a new trend ;) j/k

Stand Update and more Lighting - [ 8/28/07 ]

I've hired SoCalCreations to create the stand for this tank! I can't ever start a new project without SOMETHING being made by Randy and co. over at SCC. The stand will be just like my old 68g stand, but longer. He will use center braces, however, for this longer stand for extra stability. He is making them with pocket screws in case my sump is too long. The cool thing is I can easily remove the brace, put my sump in prior to putting the display / water in, and then screw it back in without a problem. Both front and back braces will be pocket screws.

The top piece will have a triangular section cut out for the internal overflow, and I may have randy cut a hole in the door for me to mount an aquacontroller, though I don't know why I'd ever need access to it without opening my stand, especially if it's going to be controlled via my laptop. So still undecided about that part.

Depending on how much room is left in there, I was thinking of running an external fuge. I may get this done by Gen over at Kritter Creations (krittertanks.com) since he's more local to me. It'd probably just be a small acrylic tank with an overflow that will overflow into the sump.

As for lighting, I did some research and I've decided to go with a 48" fixture from Current USA. It's the 2x150watt HQI + 4x54watt T5 pendant. I opted for the 48" because it seems to be designed such that the halides cover exactly 48" without wasting in spillover. THe 54watt t5 supplements will also stretch to the edges. This will probably allow me to grow some zoos and low laying corals on the sides of the rock structures.

The dual 150watt instead of dual 250watt is because the tank is only 20" deep. With some overlap, the high light corals should be fine even midway down the tank. Also less heat, less power consumption, etc.

petsolutions has an amazing free delivery deal of $700 shipped for this system. Pretty cool huh? I may see if marinedepot can match it, since I usually try to buy everything from them. (they've been very good to me). I believe in loyalty, but smart shopping as well ;)

The ELOS system without stand cost me about $3045 (includes ~$280 worth of tax). The custom stand is $580 shipped. I'm also getting two vortechs, battery back up which I haven't tallied up yet... and then the lighting for $700. So a little more than $5g's all together.

*sigh*

Keep up your schoolwork, and one day you'll be afford any tank you want ;)

That is such a lie. :P I had great grades, standardized test scores, and extra curriculars, amazing grades throughout my university time, and then after college schooling.... I'd say job choice, and money smarts will let you afford a tank.

So finally made up your mind eh? Looks GOOD!!!

When do we get to see pics of the real deal?

What magic 150w bulbs are you going to be using? most of the outputs i've read are pretty dismal when compared to a certain 175w SE. ;)

yeah... that's true, but I think doing well in school is more than just test scores and grades, but you learn about what you like and you realize what you have to do to, well, make yourself happy in the future. IE: I'm a greedy bastard, I wanna make a lot of money ;) It's fun. j/k j/k... sorta =X

Some people don't need that, but I find it hard to believe someone who just sits around all day watching TV / playing video games / doing drugs would get very far as opposed to someone in school with good understandings of what they like and don't like in terms of school subjects, and it allows them to sort of exercise "hard work" skills. Let me just say, all Id id all day was watch tv and play video games. I've never done drugs other than when I underwent surgery =P

Randy is good about posting pictures of his build, so I'm sure those will come first. The tank etc. pictures will come upon delivery, which should arrive at the Pleasanton Elos warehouse mid september. I'll document everything diligently ;)

I think the outputs will be "dismal" but well suited for a 20" deep sps tank. but really, I've never tried it. A lot of folk on RC seem to think that the dual 150's would provide plenty for my sps. Do you think differently? I should get your input on this as well... Which 175w SE's are you talking about?

Link to comment

no, it's silicon that is non-toxic. It's a super thick bunch of silicon. No other glass maker that I know of uses the non-toxic type silicon.

That blue color is just a tint on the side for the crystal glass (low-iron).

ooo i know what that is, i was looking at getting one but i would be worried about shipping and also the price of them is incredible, so im going to see what aquarium obsessed can do for me on a tank with 48x30x24 dimensions

I also heard on RC that 150's should be cool, but for the same wattage you can use the iwasaki 15,000k.

Unless you're concerned about space, then just stick to the 150's. :\ less efficient but definetly small.

I was thinking for my next 100ish gallon tank doing 3x150w + 4 60" T5ho

2 daylight bulbs

2 actinic

suppliment the MH with t5 ho? It's a thought. If worse comes to worse order these australian bulbs called sylvania aqua-arc. They put out GOBS of light.

God. Screw building my own tanks. That ELOs is beeeeeaaa--uuuu----tiiii-ful! Do they make anyhthing 60" long and 15-20" tall?

yeah they do the 160 and the 160xl, the 160 is just about 60x20x20 and the 160xl is about 60x30x24 of which the 160 costs $3,275 and the 160xl is $4,210 lol the aquarium obsessed tanks sure are looking good with those prices which is what i will be looking at since elos tanks do cost a small fortune

if i could get glass that thick and polished around here, i would but i dont have anything that can get that size glass for me and i want to know what kind of silicone those places use

if you ever see an ELOS tank in person, you'll nod your head and go "oooh, that's why it's so expensive". It really is expensive, but for a reason. I can't describe it. It's absolutely beautiful, especially with the beveled glass etc. It looks better in person at least 70x more than in pictures. It's really odd =/ I didn't want one either until I visited the warehouse. Thank goodness I drove my coupe to the warehouse!! I would've came back with the tank right there and then.

Oh I can tell it's worth every penny from that pic above.

I want one, but I know i'll never be able to afford it on my budget. :D

i have been looking and i need to set up a tank (corals look pretty stressed in my 100G rubbermaid tub) but i will be waiting a little bit longer, comission checks are on the way and i will most likely treat myself to either a 120XL or an aquarium obsessed 180

ramen for all your meals, sell the house, walk to work =X

hehe, yeah it's pretty bad, but I'm glad I haven't actually set any of my past tanks up, such that I can still sell the equipment back without taking too big of a hit.

this one's definitely going up. My goal is to get it wet within one weekend. Probably not lit or chilled yet though =/ Lighting I'm going to need to go into the attic to place a 2x4 to hold the lighting, and order one for that matter.

it's going to be in the corner of my house, so I'll be wading through dusty as hell insulator and who the hell knows what else to get to that corner.

After that, have to drill through the floor to hookup a chiller into the basement (basement is always fairly cool, even on the hottest days).

I'll also need to setup my Ca reactor, but that'll take awhile to tune since I have no corals yet.

I found out my LFS can get any number of ORA picassos misbar etc. ocellaris! I think I'm going to get one of each of these:

1. Regular ocellaris

2. Black and White

3. Picasso

4. Teardrop

5. Naked

hopefully they'll be ok with each other. I'm all about diversity!!

i dont think they will do very well, they will all gang up on one and kill it then the ones left will gang up and the next smallest/weakest and so on until two are left...at least this is what i have heard

very good choice on the tank once again, i hope to join the low iron braceless club here soon

It's becoming a trend recently, and people seem to be having pretty good success with a "horde" of clownfish.

The trick is introducing them all at the same time, and with one predominantly larger while all the others are very young.

I'll try it out. Wouldn't that be an awesome tank if it worked out? Picasso, Misbar, Teardrop, Naked, Normal?

I don't have a house to sell yet. :(

I live in the fightclub house with like 10 people. Nothing works, but rents cheap.

I also don't have a job to walk to! Which saves me money. :D

Tank Leaving Italy - [ 9/04/07 ]

The tank has been cleared at the port in Italy!

Here it is along with some other tanks being loaded up to be delivered:

113960truck_loading.jpg

Unfortunately the shipping date is scheduled for October 10th. Way later than I expected. A wooping month from now. But hey, I guess it gives me more time to save up for some lighting.

I've been deciding on what lighting configuration, here's a new one I've been thinking about:

Aquactinic 48" MH/T5 Classic

2x 175watt 15K Iwasaki Lamps

2x ATI Blue Plus

~$760

I heard the 175watt put out as much PAR as any other 250watt on magnetic ballast, and even more on electric, but saves a lot of energy being only 175watts.

Then of course the ATI Blue+ are also known to kick butt in terms of T5 lighting.

I'm also thinking of the fixture in Bronze, or if they still have it, silver:

the images arent working but if your looking at lighting and want to spend that much i would say 175W is a good choice for lighting, if you werent looking for an complete fixture i have a 3x 175W MH retro for sale with magnetic ballasts for only 300 plus shipping lol

At that price I would get the ATI fixture....it looks sexy and it comes with hanging hardware and spash guard

but it is cool how it comes with different colors
