Frogspawn
Scientific Name
Euphyllia divisa
Common Name
Frogspawn Coral
Region
Red Sea, Samoa, Indo-Pacific, Solomon Islands, Malaysia
Lighting
Moderate lighting, halides are unnecessary and will likely cause photoinhibition.
Temperament
Aggressive, and even small specimens can inflate to a large size. Like all Euphyllia spp, this species has a strong sting, sweeper tentacles that can extend beyond the coral, and is highly allelopathic. Be cautious of mixing aggressive and allelopathic species in the same nano aquarium, especially without chemical filtration.
Current
Low to moderate, and should not be subjected to laminar streams of any kind, which will cause tissue damage. Frogspawn coral will not fully inflate if subjected to excessive water motion.
Hardiness
Hardy, a good beginner LPS coral if starting with a healthy specimen.
Notes
This species will benefit from occasional target feeding with minced seafood or prepared food (once or twice weekly) for optimum health and faster growth. Keep in mind the aggressiveness of this and other Euphyllid species!
